Why fabric is not the same as a furniture facade

Visually, a fabric headboard can sometimes appear almost flat. Especially if it's smooth velour without button tufting or deep pleats.

But flatness in a photo doesn't necessarily mean a rigid mounting surface.

Under the fabric, there's a soft layer. When pressed, it changes shape. The upholstery itself is stretched over the frame and works together with the padding. A person sits up in bed, leans back, adjusts pillows, touches the edge of the headboard. In other words, the surface behaves completely differently than a door panel or cabinet front.

If you place a rigid, embossed element on top of it, questions arise that don't exist with a regular panel:

• how will the piece behave when the soft base is pressed through;

• will the line of contact remain even;

• what will happen when a person presses on the upholstery nearby;

• can the fabric itself be considered a suitable mounting layer;

• how will the edge of the overlay look on a pile surface;

• will it be possible to properly care for the fabric around the relief.

If the manufacturer offers a different principle — transferring the stucco decor to a rigid surface — there is no reason to turn a finished bed into an experiment.

"But the fabric is glued to the base": why this is not enough
