The moldings already form neat frames on the wall, the joints are filled, and the surface is painted. But after the paint dries, it turns out that the thin profile has almost merged with the background, and the intricate ornament of the decorative overlay looks flat. There is no need to fix the composition by replacing the products: sometimes it is enough to change the distribution of color.

Two-tone painting of polyurethane moldings solves two different tasks. The first is to make the molding contrast with the wall: for example, keep a white profile against a dark blue background. The second is to paint the relief profile itself in two shades, leaving the recesses in the base color and highlighting the raised areas with silver, gold, or a similar-toned composition. Despite the visual similarity of the result, the technique here is different.

The difficulty is not in choosing a second can of paint. You need to get a clean edge on an installed molding, avoid damaging the first layer with painter's tape, avoid filling the ornament with excess material, and make sure the materials are compatible. Below is a working sequence for smooth and relief products, including examples of STAVROS profiles.

What two-tone painting of moldings means

Wall in one color, molding in another

In this case, each element remains solid-colored, and the contrast arises at the junction line. A white frame on a dark wall reads even in weak side light. A dark molding on a light base works differently: the line becomes more graphic, emphasizes the proportions of the frame, and reveals any inaccuracy in its installation.

Painting in close shades works more softly. For example, a light gray profile on a medium gray wall does not create a harsh stripe, yet its outline remains distinguishable due to color and its own shadow. This approach is especially useful if there are several frames on the wall and the decorative lines should not compete with doors, furniture, and wall lights.

Here the main technical task is to preserve a clean boundary between the two coatings. Mistakes are more noticeable on the straight sections of the frame, where the eye expects a continuous, even line.

Two colors within a single profile

A relief molding has flat shelves, rounded ridges, grooves, and transitions between them. The entire profile is coated with a base paint; the second shade is applied selectively. If you pass an almost dry brush only over the protruding ridge, the groove stays dark and the relief becomes more pronounced.

The reverse technique is also possible: leave a thin decorative patina in the recesses. But it requires a different composition and a different technique for removing excess. Dry brushing should not be confused with patination: in the first case, the paint mainly lands on the peaks of the relief, in the second, the accent more often remains in its depth.

When a second color is not needed

A thin, smooth profile sometimes simply does not have enough surface area for two-tone finishing of its own face. Trying to highlight several shades at once on a strip about a centimeter wide usually produces a mottled stripe instead of an expressive pattern. For such geometry, it is better to choose contrast with the wall or limit yourself to a single-color paint job.

There is another reason to forgo a second color: the wall is already divided by many lines, ornaments, and objects. An additional accent can make the composition visually heavy. Before painting all the moldings, evaluate a sample from the distance at which this wall is seen every day, not just up close.

Which STAVROS moldings are suitable for two-tone finishing

The choice depends primarily on the cross-section: a wide face shelf, a protruding ridge, or a deep groove provide different possibilities for distributing the second color.

Product Dimensions, mm Suitable technique What to Check
MLDPU-001 10 × 6 × 2600 A contrasting thin frame on a colored wall The cleanliness of the line along the edges of the profile
MLDPU-002 22 × 11 × 2600 A solid-color frame with a contrasting overlay; selective highlighting of the cross-section after testing On which sections of the profile the second tone looks even
MLDPU-003 35 × 12 × 2600 Highlighting individual protrusions and steps of the relief Whether the transition between tiers gets clogged with paint
MLDPU-002U 172 × 172 × 13 A color accent in a corner decorative composition The geometry of the joint and the color scheme of the adjacent molding

Dimensions are given in the sequence used in the product cards for the respective items; for the corner element, these are the dimensions of the decorative overlay, not the length of the running strip.

Narrow contrasting line: MLDPU-001

Polyurethane molding MLDPU-001 has a cross-section of 10 × 6 mm and a length of 2600 mm. It is sensible to use it where the main pattern is created by the geometry of the frame rather than by the complexity of the carving. A white profile on a graphite or dark green wall will provide a visible boundary without attempting to paint its own small protrusions.

For a narrow element, two things matter: the quality of the end joint finishing and the consistent width of the painted stripe along the entire frame. If on one side the paint accidentally extends onto the wall by a millimeter, this can be more noticeable than an unevenness on a wide textured baguette.

Multi-level profile: MLDPU-003

У molding MLDPU-003 cross-section size 35 × 12 mm, length — 2600 mm. This geometry allows you to choose one specific level for the accent: the central protrusion or the narrow shelf. It is not necessary to paint all protruding areas at once. On the contrary, a limited accent often reveals the profile's shape better.

It is useful to prepare three small samples of the same product: fully monochrome, with a contrasting highlight of the selected protrusion, and with an accent that differs only slightly in color. In daylight the result may differ only slightly, but under side lighting it will become obvious which option preserves the architectural pattern.

Molding with decorative corners: MLDPU-002 and MLDPU-002U

MLDPU-002 measures 22 × 11 × 2600 mm. For a composition with a corner accent, you can consider a decorative element MLDPU-002U measuring 172 × 172 × 13 mm.

An identical digital base for the article numbers does not exempt you from checking the actual fit: before ordering, compare the drawings, relief, depth and the intended installation method. If the composition is compatible, the molding can be left light, while individual protruding elements of the corner overlay can be highlighted with a warm metallic shade. The result will be an accent at the joints, not a solid gold frame.

Ready-made wall collections

В «Versailles» collections polyurethane and MDF products are used. This is a fundamental distinction for the painter. In a single composition, a relief polyurethane overlay and a primed MDF molding may sit side by side. Externally, they can be painted identically, but the preparation of repair areas, exposed edges, and factory coatings must take each material into account separately.

You cannot assign a single primer "for the whole set" simply because the decorative parts are sold as a single system. First, clarify the composition of the set, then check the finish manufacturer's recommendations for each surface.

How to choose a combination of two colors

The first question is where the accent will be located: at the boundary of the wall and the frame, or on the ornament itself. The second is how the color works under real lighting. A small sample in a store does not show the shadows from a protrusion, especially if the wall is lit from the side.

Base Second color How the finish is perceived What it's suitable for
White Gold Warm accent on the peaks of the relief Individual ornaments, corner pieces
Graphite silver Cool contrast in tone and sheen Geometric and stepped profiles
Cream Beige Slight variation in shades Subtle highlighting of a large pattern
Dark blue Light gray Pronounced light graphics Frames on a contrasting wall
White Black Sharp architectural line Simple, minimalist frames
Light gray Medium gray Restrained tonal treatment Several frames in one room

White moldings on a colored wall. This is a predictable solution for a complex layout. To keep the white from looking like a random stripe, match it with the casings, door leaves and baseboard. An exact match is not always essential, but a noticeable difference in the degree of whiteness of adjacent parts can be undesirable.

Dark profiles on a light background. Any change in line width becomes more noticeable. If the wall moldings form several identical rectangles, first check parallelism and corner positions. Color will amplify not only the design intent but also geometry errors.

Close shades. A good choice for a profile with a complex shadow. For example, a darker gray base tone with a slightly lighter accent on the projection does not turn the ornament into a separate decorative object but reveals its volume.

Gold, bronze and silver. Metallic paint reacts to light differently than a matte base. That is why a wide stripe painted gold may look much brighter than expected from the can. To start, highlight one bead or a repeating element of the ornament rather than the entire face of the molding. A test patch under natural and artificial lighting is essential.

Paints, primers and tools for two-tone finishing

How to choose a suitable coating

The phrase "acrylic paint" by itself does not guarantee compatibility with any polyurethane product. The full set of conditions matters: the type of material, the presence of a factory primer, the condition of the surface, the expected load and the compatibility of the two applied coatings with each other.

For interior decor, water-dispersion compositions approved by the manufacturer for the relevant primed or polymer substrates are often considered. But a paint suitable for a mineral wall does not necessarily have sufficient adhesion to smooth polyurethane. If the chosen system does not expressly permit such a surface, a primer agreed with the manufacturer or a different paint is required.

The second shade must match the first not only visually. You must not apply a solvent-based decorative product over an unknown water-based paint without testing: the coating may soften, lose its gloss, develop spots, or lose adhesion. Do not thin the product "by eye" — follow the instructions for the specific material.

The degree of gloss matters

Matte paint reduces reflections and makes tonal variations calmer. Semi-matte helps define a protruding ridge even with similar colors. Gloss emphasizes reflections, but at the same time reveals brush marks, local runs, and unevenness of repaired areas.

Two shades from the same color group can look contrasting solely because of a different degree of gloss. This is not a mistake if the effect is intentional. However, when touching up later, matching exactly the same gloss is often harder than matching the original color.

What you will need for the work

For contrasting the wall and the molding, you need small quality brushes, a small roller for flat surfaces, painter's tape with suitable tack, clean lint-free cloths, and a directional light source. For relief, you will additionally need a flat brush with stiff bristles, a narrow artist's brush, a palette for removing excess, and a sample of the same profile shape.

Low-tack tape is preferable on a delicate, already painted surface, but it does not make it invulnerable: a test on an inconspicuous area is mandatory. The time after which tape may be applied to fresh paint is determined not by its dry-to-touch time, but by the technical requirements of compatible products.

How to prepare polyurethane moldings for painting

Clean the surface without damaging the primer

Remove dust from the relief grooves with a dry soft brush. Clean off any remaining construction dirt using a method permitted for the product's surface. If wet wiping is required, do not leave detergent in the recesses: an invisible film can impair the adhesion of the subsequent paint.

Do not use a solvent just because it quickly removes contaminants. Certain formulations can alter the appearance of the polymer, the factory primer, or the paint already applied. First check compatibility and perform a test.

Check corners, joints, and abutments

On a two-tone frame, a joint defect is especially noticeable where the second shade runs along a narrow ledge. Before painting, check whether the jointing material protrudes above the cross-section. If the repair compound has not yet cured, painter's tape can damage it, and the finish coat can reveal a spot with different absorbency.

Only those seams for which the chosen compound is intended should be filled. It must be suitable for the substrate and paintable if a topcoat is to be applied over it. After treating the abutments, observe the conditions and time specified by the manufacturer.

Assess the factory surface

Some products may be supplied with a coating prepared for painting. However, the white color of a part does not by itself prove that it is a primer compatible with the chosen enamel. Review the product card or documentation for the specific product and confirm the surface condition. If in doubt, a test sample will show whether craters, paint repellency, and peeling occur after curing.

Make a test coat as part of the project

For a relief profile, one sample should be divided into several working areas: base paint without an accent, the second color applied with a dry brush, and the second color applied with a fine brush. After complete drying, compare them under daylight, general artificial light, and side lighting.

This is more useful than evaluating individual strokes on cardboard. On a real cross-section, you can see whether the metallic paint has transferred from the raised area into the groove and whether brush-direction striping has appeared. Coating adhesion can only be checked using the method and after the holding time specified by its manufacturer: there is no universal "fingernail test after an hour."

How to paint molding and a wall in different colors: a step-by-step guide

For a smooth profile, the main difficulty is not layering paint at the edges and not pulling off the previous layer when removing the tape. It is more convenient to divide the work into separate stages.

Step 1. Determine the sequence of colors

If the wall has not yet been painted, on many sites it is rational to first complete the main wall color and then finish the molding. But with complex geometry and a different combination of materials, the order may differ. Make the decision after a test: which surface is more reliably protected with tape, and where is it easier to guide the brush along a straight edge?

For an already finished wall, the task changes. The existing coating must withstand temporary protection. If it is weak, painter's tape may pull off the paint; in such a situation, careful work with a small brush without applying tape is safer for the substrate.

Step 2. Check and protect the boundary

Apply a short piece of suitable tape to an inconspicuous spot, wait for the test period according to the instructions, and remove it. If the paint comes off, do not continue taping the entire frame. Check the strength of the substrate or switch to hand-painting the boundary.

On a straight section, apply the tape without stretching, pressing firmly along the edge closest to the area being painted. On a textured wall, the microcavities of the tape can cause seepage: there, a particularly careful thin coat is required, and sometimes a special technique for sealing the edge with a compatible first color. It also needs to be tested beforehand.

Step 3. Apply the first color

When painting the wall, work with a roller on the open surface and a small brush next to the profile. Do not try to cover the entire narrow strip next to the molding in one stroke. A large amount of paint at the boundary can seep under the tape even if it was applied carefully.

If the profile is painted first, move along its shape. On a smooth molding, try not to go over the already beginning-to-dry surface several times: this can lift the layer and leave brush marks.

Step 4. Wait for the required coating readiness

The paint may stop feeling tacky to the touch well before it becomes strong enough for tape to adhere. Check the recoat time, the time until mechanical loads, and the tape manufacturer's recommendations. At low temperatures, high humidity, or on a thick coat, actual drying may proceed differently from what is specified for standard conditions.

If the first surface is still soft, do not start the second one. The minutes saved often end in peeling paint and a complete redo of the boundary.

Step 5. Apply a contrasting shade

Pick up a small amount of paint on a thin brush, remove the excess, draw a line along the molding, and fill the remaining surface of the profile. On a stepped cross-section, it is convenient to treat the side areas first, then the front part. Make sure the paint does not collect in the corners of the frame: that is exactly where the excess runs after repeated passes.

When working with a roller on the adjacent wall, reduce pressure near the profile. An uneven wall texture can leave a narrow unpainted strip right at the edge; fix it locally rather than by adding a thick coat around the entire perimeter.

Step 6. Carefully remove the tape

Many masking tape manufacturers recommend removing it while the last coat of paint is still wet; other coatings or conditions may require a different approach. Follow the instructions for the tape and paint used. Remove slowly, without jerking across the surface. If a solid hardened paint bridge has formed, it sometimes needs to be carefully separated along the boundary without damaging the base.

Immediately inspect the corners, lower horizontals, and the intersections of the two frames. A small mistake is easier to spot under angled lighting before the furniture is arranged.

Step 7. Perform local touch-ups

Correct a small step at the boundary after the coating has reached the required readiness. To do this, select a thin brush and paint of the same color and gloss. If the run is bulky, an attempt to cover it with another layer will only increase the protrusion: first you will need suitable leveling according to the coating instructions, then restoring the paintwork.

How to highlight the relief of polyurethane stucco with a second color

Here tape is usually not the main tool. The placement of the surface, the amount of paint on the brush, and the direction of movement do the work. It is useful to determine in advance which elements should remain the base color: for example, the grooves between the convex rollers and the flat area near the wall.

Dry brush technique: emphasis on the protrusions

  1. Paint the entire profile completely with the base color. Wait until the coating is ready for the next operation according to the technical instructions.
  2. Pick up a little of the second shade on a flat brush and almost completely remove the excess on a palette or test material. The bristles should leave a transparent or very thin trace on the protrusion, not a wet stripe.
  3. Lightly run the brush across or along individual protrusions — choose the direction according to the specific pattern. Do not press the bristles into the grooves.
  4. Evaluate the area under side lighting. If there is too little accent, gradually add it after the necessary waiting time, rather than coming back immediately with a large amount of paint.
  5. Repeat the technique on the next fragment, maintaining the same intensity. On a long molding, compare adjacent areas while it is still possible to correct differences.

The term “dry brush” does not mean a not fully dried brush with hardened paint, but a tool with a minimal amount of fresh compound. When applied correctly, metallic or light paint touches primarily the tops of the relief, without turning into an independent continuous film over the entire surface.

Highlighting a single shelf with a thin brush

If the profile has a distinct longitudinal step, you can run a continuous strip with a narrow brush along the chosen ridge. This method produces a crisper line than dry brushing. However, it requires a steady hand and an even amount of paint along the entire length of the piece.

Working technique: divide a long section into convenient segments at natural stopping points — corners, joints, or decorative details. Blend the start of the adjacent segment only within the technically permissible working time with the paint. Do not thoughtlessly return to a partially dried fragment: a visible overlap stripe will appear.

Patina in the recesses — a different distribution of tone

When patinating, the main accent becomes the depressions and inner boundaries of the ornament. The composition is applied and partially removed from the raised areas so that more pigment remains in the recesses. The feasibility of such treatment depends on the compatibility of the patina with the base coating and on its working time.

If you specifically need a deepened shadow effect, detailed principles are provided in STAVROS's material on patinating stucco. Do not try to imitate it with ordinary thick paint: the filled grooves will lose depth, and the contours of leaves and scrolls will become less distinguishable.

How not to paint over fine patterns

The main sign of excess composition is the rounding of a previously crisp boundary between two ornament details. If several adjacent recesses begin to merge into a single spot, stop work before the thick drop sets. The removal method is determined by the paint composition: for some water-based systems, careful correction of the still-wet layer is acceptable; for others, you will have to wait for it to dry and restore the area according to the instructions.

The second color must not be used as a way to hide a poorly prepared surface. A metallic accent on a raised element will highlight a chip, an uneven seam, and a brush mark. Therefore, before decorative finishing, it is important to complete the repair of the base.

Inspection under side lighting

Place a portable light source to the side of the area at a safe distance, without heating the polymer and the paint coating. Side light will reveal unpainted steps, random spots in the grooves, and differing accent intensity on adjacent parts.

Then repeat the check under normal room lighting. Do not try to achieve the same brightness for every curl if the profile has different angles of inclination: light reflection depends on geometry. The goal is a consistent painting intent, not mechanically identical gloss on every surface.

Paint before installation or after mounting

Pre-painting is convenient if the molding has a deep relief and its side parts will be difficult to reach after installation. The blanks can be laid out horizontally, the painting along the entire length can be controlled, and a test area can be made without the risk of staining the wall. But after cutting, end faces will appear, and the joints will require repair and touch-up.

When painting after installation, it is easier to achieve a continuous color line, especially if the joints of the frame should be invisible. However, the finished wall is nearby and must be protected, and working with a brush on a vertical surface is more difficult.

For a contrasting smooth frame, installation followed by finishing the joints and overall painting of the profile is often more convenient. For a complex decorative overlay, you can first apply a base coat to the separate part, install it, and only after the work is complete highlight the raised areas with a second shade. In any case, the sequence is coordinated with the installation and paint materials used.

If a separate instruction on corner geometry and joint sealing is required, use the STAVROS guide on installing polyurethane molding. Two-tone painting makes sense to perform after installation defects have been eliminated and the repair materials have reached the required readiness.

Three practical solutions with STAVROS profiles

Option 1. Thin white frame on a blue wall

For a wall 3200 mm wide, a rectangular frame with outer dimensions of 1200 × 1700 mm is planned. MLDPU-001 was chosen as the thin profile. The geometric perimeter of the frame is 2 × (1200 + 1700) = 5800 mm. This is a preliminary calculation based on the outer contour, without adjustments for actual measurement points along the cross-section, cuts, and trimming.

The length of one strip is 2600 mm. For four pieces measuring 1700, 1700, 1200, and 1200 mm, two strips are not enough: each strip cannot yield both 1700 and 1200 mm at the same time. At least three strips will be needed even with ideal cutting, and the final order is checked against the cutting map and the method of joining the corners.

For painting, it is enough to choose a clear contrast between the wall and the narrow profile. The additional silver line inside MLDPU-001 itself will most likely turn out to be visually excessive. The practical priority here is clean joints and a uniform white shade on all four sides.

Option 2. Graphite MLDPU-003 with a soft silver accent

For the wide MLDPU-003 profile, first paint the entire surface in a graphite tone. After curing and checking the durability of the coating, highlight only one repeating protruding line with silver paint. At the same time, the deep transitions of the cross-section remain graphite.

For comparison, prepare two samples of a length convenient for viewing at interior scale. On the first, make a bright silver accent on the entire selected shelf. On the second, use significantly less metallic composition: the line will be softer and more dependent on light. The second option is not necessarily "poorer" — sometimes it conveys the shape more accurately, since the contrast arises simultaneously from shadow and a slight difference in gloss.

At the corners, make sure the selected stripe continues. If it shifts on the adjacent piece, the bright second color will emphasize the joint defect. You should correct the geometry or the local painting, not widen the silver stripe on one of the sections.

Option 3. Light MLDPU-002 frame with highlighted corner elements

For the decorative composition, consider MLDPU-002 and the corner elements MLDPU-002U suitable for the project. Before installation, check the joint against the drawings and with a dry fit. If the connection is suitable, the linear profile can be left cream, while a limited gold accent can be applied to the protruding parts of the ornament on the corner overlay.

In this solution, the second shade does not need to run along the entire length of the frame. This reduces the number of operations, lowers the risk of uneven stripes, and makes the corner the focal point of the composition. For adjacent decorative frames, repeat the same degree of gold intensity: differing sheen on symmetrical elements is especially noticeable under wall-lamp lighting.

Two-tone painting errors: causes and fixes

Mistake What the defect looks like What to do
Paint is incompatible with the primer or first coat Spots, repelling of the coating, softening or peeling Stop, identify the materials used, select a compatible system and run a test; restore the damaged layer according to the instructions
Surface not cleaned Craters, poor wetting, local peeling Remove the contamination using an approved method; check adhesion after preparation
Too much paint on the brush Sags along the edge and filled recesses Remove the excess until it touches the profile; correct the volumetric defect after the permitted drying time
The tape pulled off the base color Strips of torn paint along the joint Do not apply tape until the required strength is reached; use a test patch and tape with suitable adhesion
Uneven texture highlighting One area is brighter than another, spots have appeared Work in successive areas and compare under the same lighting; locally even out the tone after the required holding time
Repair compound not cured Spots appear at the joints, and the boundary deforms Complete the finishing only after confirmed curing and the necessary preparation of the repair areas
The contrast is too strong for a thin profile The line looks fragmented, and the frame clashes with the interior Switch to close tones or keep a single color on the profile and use contrast only with the wall

A particularly frustrating mistake is trying to fix a thick buildup with yet another thin decorative stripe next to it. On a flat wall this is sometimes masked by the overall pattern, but on a protruding molding the extra thickness will remain visible in side light. The original shape of the coating must be restored.

Another problem arises when individual materials in the same set have different preparation. If a polyurethane overlay and a primed MDF molding are painted with the same paint without checking the substrate, they may differ in gloss or absorption at the repair areas. A small test patch reveals this before painting the entire wall.

How to care for two-tone moldings

After completing the work, do not start wet cleaning until the coating has reached the service strength specified by the manufacturer. The drying time between coats and the time until it is ready for washing can differ noticeably.

Clean the smooth profile with a soft dry cloth; if necessary, use only the products and wet-cleaning methods permitted for the applied paint. In the recessed areas of the relief, it is easier to remove dust with a soft brush without rubbing it into the decorative patina. Hard sponges and abrasives can wear away the finest metallic accent before they damage the base enamel.

For local touch-up, keep the color designations, coating brand, gloss level and description of the application technique. With a metallic effect, the tool also matters: the same paint applied with a sponge and with a flat brush can produce different reflections. If an area is damaged along a long straight line, it is sometimes wiser to restore the entire strip bounded by a segment or corners than to leave a noticeable isolated spot.

Frequently asked questions

Can polyurethane moldings be painted in two colors?

Yes, if both coatings are compatible with the product surface and with each other. You can create contrast between the wall and a solid-color profile, or highlight the protrusions of the relief itself with a second shade. For narrow smooth moldings, the first option is usually more logical. Complex profiles are suitable for a selective accent, but the result should be assessed on a test paint-out of the same cross-section.

Which paint should I choose for polyurethane?

Choose a composition whose manufacturer has confirmed suitability for the specific polymer or primed surface. The name “acrylic” alone is not enough. If the molding is already painted, compatibility with the existing coating is required. For a second decorative color, also check whether it can be applied over the first, the intermediate drying requirements and the permitted method of subsequent cleaning.

How do I get a clean boundary between the wall and the molding?

First eliminate any joint defects and let the materials cure. Then test the masking tape on an inconspicuous area, check its compatibility with the paint and press the working edge down firmly without stretching it. Apply a thin coat without letting paint accumulate along the edge. If the existing finish is fragile, it is better to avoid tape and make the boundary with a small brush.

How do I highlight molded relief with gold paint?

Paint the profile in the base color and let the coating reach the stage at which the next layer is permitted. Pick up a little compatible metallic paint on a flat brush, remove the excess and lightly touch the protrusions. Start with a short sample. Do not try to cover all the recesses with gold at once: this will make the pattern flatter and excess paint will collect in the grooves.

What does the dry brush technique mean?

This is a method of applying a small amount of paint mainly to the raised parts of the relief. The brush is not literally dry: a thin portion of fresh compound remains on the bristles. Thanks to the light touch, the tops of the ornament receive a second shade, while the recesses retain the base color. The method requires a test on the specific profile and even pressure along the entire piece.

Does molding need to be primed before painting?

Not in all cases. The decision depends on whether the product is supplied with a compatible factory primer, whether it has been repaired, and what finish paint you are using. A white surface does not yet prove that the required primer is present. Check the product documentation and the coating specification. Bare repaired areas may require separate preparation that differs from the treatment of the factory surface.

Can already installed moldings be repainted?

It is possible provided that the old coating is sufficiently sound, cleaned, and compatible with the new paint. Working on a wall is more difficult because of the adjacent finish and limited access to corners, so small brushes, a masking tape test, and good lighting are especially important. If the paint is peeling, applying a new shade directly over it is pointless: the base must first be restored.

Why does paint accumulate in the recesses of the relief?

If applied too generously, the liquid layer shifts into the lower areas and grooves. On a vertical surface this is more noticeable if the painter repeatedly passes the brush over the same area or leaves drips at the profile transitions. Reduce the amount of compound on the tool, check the recesses under side lighting, and do not exceed the recommended coating thickness.

How to fix drips after two-color painting?

If the defect is still fresh, the possibility of careful correction depends on the properties of the specific paint and its drying stage. Do not rub an unknown compound with solvent over polyurethane. After curing, the run usually has to be carefully leveled using an approved method, then the primer, if necessary, and both shades must be locally restored. On metallic paint, separately check whether the gloss of the corrected area differs.

Bottom line: two colors should explain the form, not hide it

For a neat two-tone finish, first determine what exactly needs to be emphasized: the outline of the frame on the wall or individual elements of the polyurethane relief. A smooth narrow molding usually benefits from a clean contrasting border, while a complex profile benefits from a moderate accent on a selected protrusion. Paint compatibility, the durability of the first coat, proper work with masking tape, and a mandatory test patch are more important than the number of shades.

If the composition is still only being planned, compare the cross-sections and lengths of the products in the section STAVROS polyurethane mouldings. A pre-selected profile shape allows you to plan the placement of colors before installation and avoid unnecessary operations during the final finishing of the walls.
