Description

Set KON-013 — is a ready-made, matched composition consisting of a wooden axis MLD-060 and geometric shapes KN for assembling one vertical decorative baluster. The number and composition of shapes can be changed or partially excluded to create your own composition.
KON-013 is a stylish solution for creating interior products from natural wood. The set can be used in the production of decorative balusters, supports, stands, as well as for creating interior accents.
Installation
• shapes are fixed onto the wooden rod MLD-060 using wood glue (we recommend PVA D3 glue);
• they can also be secured with painter's tape during glue polymerization;
• additionally, micro pins can be used during installation.
Large shapes act as a connection node — two rods can be glued into them to assemble long structures.
We recommend painting or tinting only after full assembly and installation of all elements. The paint layer may increase the hole diameter and complicate installation. On shaped elements, we advise masking the mounting channel before painting.
Finishing Options
• wood oil — the simplest and most beautiful method, highlighting the natural wood texture;
• enamel of different colors (for bright colored compositions);
• tinting with stains, finishing with transparent varnishes, applying patina.

The company ordered the pens for us when we ordered furniture. But I decided to write a review personally because they are amazing! Stylish, expensive, high-quality!

More than 20 years on the market

The company's success began in 2002, when two artists — Andrey Ragozin and Evgeny Tsapko — created a small creative workshop for producing wooden carved items. The masters' work was quickly noticed, and within a year they were invited to participate in the reconstruction of the Konstantinovskiy Palace in Strelna.

After the success of this project, the company focused on recreating palace interiors, furniture, church furnishings, and carved decorations in various artistic styles. They worked with cultural heritage sites: The Hermitage, the Alexandrovsky Palace, the Troitsko-Izmaylovsky Cathedral, the Sheremetyevsky Mansion, and many others.

The masters' task — and still is — to create wooden items with the highest level of detail and understanding of every element, based on impeccable knowledge of artistic laws and interior styles.

Set of wooden baluster KON-013 made of beech or oak

Baluster set KON-013 — a ready-made modular composition of natural wood for assembling one vertical decorative post 1000 mm high. The set includes a wooden axis MLD-060 and three identical geometric shapes KN-005, compatible with each other in mounting size.

The main feature of KON-013 is its concise modern geometry. Three rounded elements with a diameter of 76 mm are placed on a straight wooden axis. Due to different distances between the shapes, the baluster gains an expressive but restrained vertical rhythm. This solution is suitable for stairs where traditional carved or turned posts look too massive.

The set can be used for making stair railing balusters, balustrade posts, decorative partitions, interior railings, and other vertical structures. KON-013 looks good both in natural wood and after painting with enamel, tinting, or combined finishing.

Dimensions and main characteristics of KON-013

  • total height A — 1000 mm;
  • maximum width B — 76 mm;
  • central axis size — 34 × 34 mm;
  • material — solid beech or oak;
  • grinding quality — «Prestige»;
  • surface preparation for painting with enamel is available;
  • the set is supplied unassembled;
  • manufacturing — made to order.

The height of 1000 mm allows the KON-013 to be used in projects for stair railings, second-floor balustrades, and interior partitions. The final height of the installed post depends on the method of bottom and top fastening, the depth of insertion, the stair step design, and the position of the handrail.

The maximum width of the baluster is 76 mm. This size is formed by the rounded elements KN-005. Compared to larger decorative figures, such modules look compact and help maintain the visual lightness of the railing.

Baluster kit composition

The standard KON-013 kit includes:

  • wooden molding MLD-060 size 34 × 34 × 1000 mm — 1 pc.;
  • geometric figure KN-005 measuring 66 × 76 × 76 mm with a mounting hole of 34 mm — 3 pcs.

The wooden molding MLD-060 serves as the central axis. Three identical geometric figures KN-005 are sequentially installed on it. All elements are designed for a single mounting size, so the customer does not need to independently select compatible parts.

The KN-005 figure has a rounded shape and smooth transitions to the central hole. In the KON-013 composition, it is used as a repeating decorative module. Identical elements tie the composition into a single whole, while the free sections of the axis between them make the post visually elongated.

Modern baluster for stair railing

KON-013 is suitable for interiors built on clean lines, simple shapes, and repeating geometry. Unlike a classic turned baluster, the model does not have a complex profile along its entire height. The base is a straight post, and the decorative character is created by three rounded elements.

This design can be used in modern interiors, minimalism, modern classic, eclectic, art deco, and custom projects. Depending on the material and finish, the same baluster can look neutral, graphic, bright, or distinctly natural.

KON-013 is suitable for:

  • straight stair flight;
  • turning staircase;
  • landing railing;
  • second-floor balustrade;
  • mezzanine railing;
  • decorative interior partition;
  • zoning of residential or commercial space;
  • making vertical decorative posts;
  • creating custom items from a wooden construction set.

Several identical balusters form a repeating pattern. Round elements can be placed at the same level throughout the staircase or use multiple assembly schemes, alternating them between adjacent posts.

Options for arranging geometric elements

The standard KON-013 composition includes three KN-005 figures installed at different sections of the axis. One element is located at the top, while the other two form a denser group below. This arrangement creates an asymmetrical but balanced vertical pattern.

The standard scheme can be used unchanged or adapted for a specific project. The following options are possible:

  • uniform arrangement of three figures along the height;
  • grouping two elements at the top;
  • grouping two elements at the bottom;
  • placement of all three figures with small gaps;
  • using one or two figures instead of three;
  • adding other compatible elements with a 34 mm mounting hole;
  • alternating different patterns on adjacent balusters.

If all balusters are assembled identically, the rounded elements form horizontal lines along the staircase. This makes the railing more strict and orderly.

When alternating layout patterns, a dynamic design appears. For example, on one post, two spheres can be placed closer to the bottom, and on the next one, closer to the top. This technique works well in modern interiors where the railing should become an independent decorative element.

Beech wood balusters

Beech is suitable for stair railings that are planned to be painted with opaque enamel. The material has a fairly calm texture and, after proper preparation, allows for a smooth surface.

The beech baluster KON-013 can be painted to match the color of the handrail, walls, stair base, or other interior details. The model looks especially expressive in black, white, graphite, terracotta, green, or pastel finishes.

Solid color painting makes the post visually integral. The axis and rounded elements are perceived as a single structure, and the geometry is revealed through light and shadow.

For a more expressive result, the KN-005 figures can be highlighted with a contrasting color. For example, paint the central axis black, and the individual spheres in gold, bronze, white, or another accent shade.

Beech can also be coated with clear varnish, oil, or a tinting compound. However, this material is especially convenient for projects where precise matching of balusters to the chosen interior palette is required.

Oak wood balusters

Oak is recommended for staircases where it is important to preserve the natural wood grain. After treatment with oil, stain, or clear varnish, the texture of the solid wood remains noticeable both on straight sections of the axis and on rounded shapes.

The oak baluster KON-013 can be combined with oak steps, handrail, bottom rail, wall panels, doors, and furniture. A single material helps connect the stair railing with other wooden elements of the interior.

With a transparent finish, rounded details showcase the natural texture well. The direction of the fibers changes relative to the light, so the shapes appear voluminous even without a contrasting color.

Oak can be left light, made warmer with oil, or tinted to a darker shade. The chosen finish should match the steps, flooring, and handrail.

Black balusters with decorative elements

One of the most expressive solutions for KON-013 is painting the axis and shapes in a deep black color. Such balusters create a graphic vertical rhythm and pair well with wooden steps, light walls, and modern interiors.

The black surface emphasizes the silhouette of the post and makes the rounded elements visually more cohesive. To prevent the railing from looking monotonous, individual shapes can be highlighted with a golden, bronze, or brass shade.

The accent ball does not have to be used on every baluster. It can be placed on every other post or several posts apart, forming a repeating decorative pattern along the staircase.

The combination of black posts, wooden steps, and individual metallic shades suits modern classic, art deco, eclectic, and graphic minimalist interiors.

Solid and combined finish

KON-013 offers several decorative finishing options.

Solid color painting

The entire baluster is painted in one color. This solution makes the railing calm and architectural. The shape of the figures remains noticeable due to volume and shadows.

Contrasting geometric elements

The shaft is painted in one shade, and the KN-005 figures in another. For example, a black post can be combined with golden spheres, a white one with pastel ones, and a colored one with natural wooden elements.

Alternating accents

On some balusters, one sphere can be made contrasting, while the rest remain the color of the shaft. When this technique is repeated along the staircase, a decorative rhythm emerges.

Natural finish

All elements are coated with oil, stain, or clear varnish. This option highlights the natural grain of beech or oak and is suitable for interiors with a lot of wood.

Finishing coating options

The kit is supplied with a "Prestige" sanding quality. The surface of the parts is prepared for subsequent decorative treatment. Before applying the final coating, it is recommended to perform a trial assembly.

For finishing, you can use:

  • wood oil;
  • covering enamel;
  • stain;
  • clear varnish;
  • tinted varnish;
  • patina;
  • a combination of several colors;
  • combination of natural wood and painted figures.

Oil emphasizes the natural texture and preserves the natural perception of the surface. Stain changes the shade of the wood without completely hiding the grain. Varnish creates a protective layer, while enamel allows for a uniform coating in almost any color.

When choosing a coating material, it is necessary to consider the purpose of the staircase, intensity of use, cleaning conditions, and compatibility of the composition with beech or oak wood.

How to assemble the KON-013 kit

The kit is supplied disassembled. Before final fixation, assemble the baluster without glue and check the position of all figures.

Recommended sequence of work:

  1. Determine the design height of the baluster.
  2. If necessary, trim the MLD-060 axle considering attachment to the step and handrail.
  3. Clean parts from wood dust.
  4. Install three KN-005 figures on the axle without glue.
  5. Adjust the distance between the elements.
  6. Check the composition matches the project.
  7. Mark the position of each figure on the central axis.
  8. Remove the elements.
  9. Apply wood glue to the surfaces to be joined.
  10. Return the figures to the marked position.
  11. Check the alignment of all elements.
  12. Secure the parts until the glue is fully polymerized.
  13. Remove glue residue and perform final finishing.

For installation, it is recommended to use PVA glue class D3 or another suitable woodworking adhesive. While drying, the figures can be temporarily secured with masking tape.

If necessary, micro-pins may be used. The decision on additional mechanical fixation is made by the master, taking into account the fence design and the chosen assembly technology.

Why painting is performed after fitting

It is recommended to perform the main painting or tinting after a trial assembly. A layer of paint or varnish inside the mounting hole can reduce its working size and make it difficult to install the figures on the MLD-060 axis.

If the elements need to be painted separately, the mounting holes should be protected with masking tape, plugs, or another suitable method.

After the coating has dried, it is necessary to check the fit of each figure. Elements should not be installed with excessive force, as this may damage the paint layer or cause cracking of the wooden part.

During final finishing, special attention is paid to joints, ends, and attachment points of the baluster. The wood must be evenly protected from all accessible sides.

Attaching the baluster to the staircase

The KON-013 kit forms a decorative vertical post. The specific method of attachment to the step, stringer, sub-baluster, or handrail is chosen separately, taking into account the staircase design.

For installation, the following may be used:

  • wooden dowels;
  • threaded studs;
  • specialized fasteners for balusters;
  • concealed metal elements;
  • mounting brackets;
  • joinery connections.

The axis size of 34 × 34 mm must be considered when preparing mounting holes. The top and bottom fasteners must hold the post in the design position and prevent it from loosening during use.

The spacing of balusters, the method of attaching the handrail, and the overall rigidity of the railing are determined by the staircase design. Decorative elements do not replace the calculation of the entire structure.

Installation of the staircase railing is recommended to be entrusted to a qualified specialist. The finished structure must comply with operating conditions and current safety requirements.

How to calculate the number of kits

The number of balusters depends on the length of the flight of stairs, the width of the steps, the selected spacing of the posts, and the railing layout. One or more balusters may be used for each step.

Before ordering, it is necessary to determine:

  • the number of steps;
  • length of the flight of stairs;
  • length of the horizontal balustrade;
  • desired distance between posts;
  • location of support pillars;
  • pattern of alternating decorative elements;
  • allowance for test assembly.

If there are many identical posts, it is recommended to first assemble one test set. After checking the dimensions, a template for the arrangement of figures for the remaining balusters is made based on it.

Can the composition of the set be changed

KON-013 belongs to the STAVROS wooden construction system. The number and arrangement of figures can be changed according to an individual project.

Allowed:

  • use one or two figures instead of three;
  • change the distance between elements;
  • group the shapes in one part of the rack;
  • add other compatible modules;
  • assemble a shorter decorative rack;
  • alternate KON-013 with straight balusters;
  • create several composition options for one staircase.

After changing the standard scheme, it is necessary to re-check the height, maximum width, distance between balusters and the position of the upper and lower fastening.

Advantages of the KON-013 kit

  • ready composition for assembling one wooden baluster;
  • height 1000 mm;
  • compact maximum width 76 mm;
  • solid beech or oak array;
  • three identical geometric shapes KN-005;
  • single mounting size 34 mm;
  • "Prestige" sanding quality;
  • ability to prepare the surface for enamel;
  • suitable for natural and colored finishes;
  • ability to change the position of decorative elements;
  • modern minimalist design;
  • suitable for serial and custom staircase projects.

The main advantage of KON-013 is a simple and easily repeatable composition. Three identical shapes can be quickly placed according to the markings, maintaining a uniform pattern throughout the entire stair railing.

At the same time, the kit provides opportunities for individual design. The arrangement of elements can be changed, individual shapes can be painted in contrasting colors, and the posts can be alternated with simpler or more complex balusters.

Manufacturing and delivery of KON-013

The KON-013 baluster set is made to order from beech or oak wood. The average production time is 5–10 days. If the product is in stock, shipment from the warehouse is carried out within three working days.

Delivery is carried out throughout Russia by the transport company CDEK. The set is supplied disassembled, which simplifies packaging, transportation, test assembly, and subsequent finishing.

Before placing an order, it is recommended to determine:

  • required number of balusters;
  • wood species — beech or oak;
  • arrangement of geometric shapes;
  • color and method of final finishing;
  • spacing of posts in the stair railing;
  • method of attachment to the base and handrail;
  • need to change the standard composition.

KON-013 is suitable for staircase manufacturers, carpentry workshops, designers, and private customers who need modern wooden balusters with simple geometry and the possibility of individual finishing.

The kit combines natural wood, compatible elements, and a modular assembly principle. KON-013 allows you to create a concise stair railing, decorative balustrade, or interior partition with a repeating rhythm of rounded details.
