Description

Set KON-014 — is a ready-made, matched composition consisting of a wooden axis MLD-060 and geometric shapes KN for assembling one vertical decorative baluster. The number and composition of shapes can be changed or partially excluded to create your own composition.
KON-014 is a stylish solution for creating interior products from natural wood. The set can be used in the production of decorative balusters, supports, stands, as well as for creating interior accents.
Installation
• shapes are fixed onto the wooden rod MLD-060 using wood glue (we recommend PVA D3 glue);
• they can also be secured with painter's tape during glue polymerization;
• additionally, micro pins can be used during installation.
Large shapes act as a connection node — two rods can be glued into them to assemble long structures.
We recommend painting or tinting only after full assembly and installation of all elements. The paint layer may increase the hole diameter and complicate installation. On shaped elements, we advise masking the mounting channel before painting.
Finishing Options
• wood oil — the simplest and most beautiful method, highlighting the natural wood texture;
• enamel of different colors (for bright colored compositions);
• tinting with stains, finishing with transparent varnishes, applying patina.

The company ordered the pens for us when we ordered furniture. But I decided to write a review personally because they are amazing! Stylish, expensive, high-quality!

More than 20 years on the market

The company's success began in 2002, when two artists — Andrey Ragozin and Evgeny Tsapko — created a small creative workshop for producing wooden carved items. The masters' work was quickly noticed, and within a year they were invited to participate in the reconstruction of the Konstantinovskiy Palace in Strelna.

After the success of this project, the company focused on recreating palace interiors, furniture, church furnishings, and carved decorations in various artistic styles. They worked with cultural heritage sites: The Hermitage, the Alexandrovsky Palace, the Troitsko-Izmaylovsky Cathedral, the Sheremetyevsky Mansion, and many others.

The masters' task — and still is — to create wooden items with the highest level of detail and understanding of every element, based on impeccable knowledge of artistic laws and interior styles.

KON-014 wooden baluster kit made of beech or oak

KON-014 baluster kit is a ready-made modular composition of natural wood for assembling one expressive decorative post 1000 mm high. It includes a central wooden axis MLD-060, a large spherical figure KN-004, two rounded elements KN-005, and three compact separating modules KN-009.

The main visual accent of KON-014 is a large sphere with a diameter of 170 mm, located in the lower part of the baluster. It creates a stable expressive silhouette and distinguishes the model from ordinary straight or traditionally turned posts. Small rounded elements and thin rings support the shape of the large ball but do not overload the overall composition.

The kit is suitable for making wooden balusters for stair railings, balustrade posts, decorative partitions, interior supports, and other vertical structures. KON-014 is especially appropriate in projects where the staircase should become a noticeable part of the interior, and the balusters should work not only as repeating posts but also as full-fledged design elements.

All parts are supplied disassembled. This allows for test assembly, changing the distance between figures, choosing an individual painting scheme, and adapting the standard composition to a specific interior project.

Dimensions and main characteristics of KON-014

  • total height A — 1000 mm;
  • maximum width B — 170 mm;
  • size of the central wooden axis is 34 × 34 mm;
  • material — solid beech or oak;
  • grinding quality — «Prestige»;
  • possible execution with surface preparation for enamel;
  • the set is supplied unassembled;
  • manufacturing — made to order.

The height of 1000 mm allows the kit to be used in projects of stair railings, second-floor balustrades, mezzanines, and interior partitions. The final height of the installed railing depends on the method of attaching the post to the step or base, the depth of installation, the design of the handrail, and other staircase elements.

The maximum width of 170 mm is determined by the large figure KN-004. This must be taken into account when calculating the distance between adjacent balusters. If the large balls are located at the same level, the gap specified in the project must be maintained between them.

The central axis MLD-060 has a cross-section of 34 × 34 mm. All geometric figures in the set are designed for the corresponding mounting size, so the elements are compatible with each other and do not require individual selection by diameter.

Baluster kit composition

The standard KON-014 set includes:

  • wooden molding MLD-060 size 34 × 34 × 1000 mm — 1 pc.;
  • geometric figure KN-004 size 167 × 170 × 170 mm, mounting hole 34 mm — 1 pc.;
  • geometric figure KN-005 size 66 × 76 × 76 mm, mounting hole 34 mm — 2 pcs.;
  • geometric figure KN-009 size 22 × 62 × 62 mm, mounting hole 34 mm — 3 pcs.

MLD-060 is used as the central wooden axis. During assembly, geometric figures are sequentially installed on it. The axis can be trimmed considering the design height, the depth of the upper and lower fastening, as well as the chosen arrangement of decorative elements.

KN-004 is the largest module in the set. The spherical figure forms the lower part of the composition and creates the main decorative accent. Thanks to its diameter of 170 mm, it is clearly visible even in a spacious interior and with a large distance between the staircase and the viewpoint.

Two KN-005 figures have a more compact diameter of 76 mm. One is located above the large ball, and the second is in the upper part of the post. These elements connect the composition vertically and create a repetition of the rounded shape at different scales.

Three KN-009 figures are used as thin decorative rings. They visually separate the rounded elements from the straight sections of the axis and make the transitions between parts neater. Such modules can be painted in a contrasting color, turning them into small graphic accents.

Design features of the KON-014 baluster

The model's design is built on the contrast between a large lower volume and a long straight section of the axis. This makes the baluster expressive while maintaining visual lightness. The bulk of the decorative details are concentrated in the lower part, while the top remains more restrained.

A large sphere creates the effect of an architectural base. Above it are a ring separator and a small ball, after which a long straight section begins. In the upper part, the composition repeats on a smaller scale: the rounded KN-005 figure is framed by compact KN-009 modules.

This principle helps maintain the integrity of the post. The upper and lower parts are connected by repeating the same geometry, but differ in scale and density of element placement.

KON-014 can be used as the main model for the entire flight of stairs or combined with more minimalist balusters. For example, a large decorative post can be installed every one or several simple straight balusters. In this case, KON-014 will serve as a recurring accent.

Which staircases KON-014 is suitable for

The set is suitable for modern interior staircases where a noticeable and unusual railing is needed. The model can be used in both residential and public spaces, provided the entire structure is properly designed and installed.

KON-014 can be used:

  • on a straight flight of stairs;
  • on a turning staircase;
  • for fencing a stair landing;
  • for a second-floor balustrade;
  • for fencing a mezzanine;
  • for a decorative interior partition;
  • for zoning a large room;
  • for custom wooden posts and supports;
  • for designing a podium or raised platform.

On a staircase with wooden steps, the baluster can be finished in a natural finish matching the color of the handrail and treads. For a bolder look, the large ball can be painted in a rich red, green, blue, or another accent color.

KON-014 looks especially striking when alternated with straight white posts. The large colored balls create rhythm, while the neutral elements maintain the visual lightness of the railing.

Usage options in stair railing

Identical balusters on each step

All kits are assembled according to the same scheme, and large balls are placed at the same height relative to each step. This solution creates a strict repeating pattern and emphasizes the geometry of the staircase.

Alternating KON-014 with straight posts

A decorative baluster is installed every one or several simple posts. The large ball becomes an accent, while the straight elements create a neutral background. This option helps avoid visual overload.

Alternating lower and upper accents

On some balusters, the large figure can be placed closer to the lower part, and on adjacent ones — higher. Before changing the standard scheme, it is necessary to check the dimensions, handrail placement, and distances between posts.

Combination of different kit models

KON-014 can be combined with other sets of wooden balusters. Different shapes and sizes of geometric figures create a complex rhythm, but for the integrity of the railing, it is recommended to use a common color scheme and a single material.

Beech wood balusters

Beech is suitable for stair railings that are planned to be painted with opaque enamel. The wood has a fairly calm and uniform texture, so after preparation it allows for a neat colored coating.

The beech baluster KON-014 can be made completely monochrome or divided by colors. The large figure KN-004 is well suited for a bright accent, while the axis and small elements can be left neutral.

Possible combinations:

  • red large ball, black small elements and light wooden axis;
  • black axis, white rings and burgundy lower element;
  • completely white baluster for a light interior;
  • solid graphite finish for a modern railing;
  • pastel shades for a soft and calm interior;
  • combination of natural beech and painted figures.

Beech can also be tinted, coated with oil or clear varnish. However, it is often chosen specifically for enamel finish when an exact match with the color of walls, furniture, railing or other interior details is required.

Oak wood balusters

Oak is recommended for stairs where it is important to preserve the natural wood grain. The natural texture looks especially expressive on the large spherical surface KN-004.

An oak baluster can be combined with steps, handrail, sub-baluster, wall panels and oak furniture. When using the same oil or tinting compound, all wooden elements are perceived as a single interior system.

Possible oak finish options:

  • clear oil to preserve natural shade;
  • light tinting;
  • warm honey finish;
  • dark stain;
  • matte clear varnish;
  • combination of natural oak and painted rings.

With a clear finish, rounded details appear especially voluminous. The direction of wood fibers changes relative to the light source, so the large ball acquires natural depth without additional decoration.

Solid finish KON-014

Solid color painting unites all details into a single architectural form. The axis, balls, and separating rings are perceived as one baluster, and the complex composition is revealed through volume and shadows.

White finish suits light staircases and modern classic interiors. Black makes the railing graphic and emphasizes the silhouette. Red, blue, green, or terracotta painting turns the post into a noticeable interior accent.

With a monochrome finish, it is especially important to carefully treat the joints between the figures and the axis. After painting, the transitions should look neat and not give the impression of separate randomly assembled parts.

Combined painting

The modular design KON-014 allows painting elements in different colors. A large sphere can become the main accent, small balls can be supporting details, and thin rings can be contrasting separators.

In one set, you can combine:

  • natural wood and colored enamel;
  • two contrasting shades;
  • a base color and a metallic accent;
  • white, black, and rich red finishes;
  • matte and semi-matte surfaces;
  • stained wood and painted geometric elements.

For a staircase with multiple balusters, it is recommended to develop a unified color scheme in advance. Shades can be repeated on each post or changed in a specific order.

For example, the large bottom ball on all balusters can be burgundy, the small figures black, and the separating rings white. The central axis can be left in its natural wood shade.

Finishing coating options

The kit is supplied with a "Prestige" sanding quality. The surface of the parts is prepared for further decorative treatment. Before applying the final coating, a test assembly must be performed.

For finishing, you can use:

  • wood oil;
  • covering enamel;
  • stain;
  • clear varnish;
  • tinted varnish;
  • patina;
  • a combination of several colors;
  • combination of natural wood and painted modules.

Oil emphasizes the natural texture of the wood and preserves the natural perception of the surface. Stain changes the shade of the solid wood without hiding its grain. Varnish creates a protective layer, while enamel allows for a smooth coating of the chosen color.

The finishing material must match the operating conditions of the staircase, intensity of use, cleaning requirements, and the selected wood species.

How to assemble the KON-014 baluster kit

The kit is supplied disassembled. Before final fixation, a dry assembly must be performed and the sequence of elements checked.

Recommended work order:

  1. Determine the design height of the finished baluster.
  2. Account for the depth of the top and bottom fastening.
  3. If necessary, trim the MLD-060 axle.
  4. Clean parts from wood dust.
  5. Install figures KN-004, KN-005, and KN-009 on the axle without glue.
  6. Check the position of all elements.
  7. Adjust the length of the straight sections of the axle.
  8. Mark the installation points for each part.
  9. Disassemble the test composition.
  10. Apply wood glue to the surfaces to be joined.
  11. Return the elements to the marked position.
  12. Check the alignment of the figures and the central post.
  13. Secure the parts until the glue is completely dry.
  14. Remove excess glue and perform final finishing.

For joining parts, it is recommended to use PVA glue class D3 or another compound intended for carpentry work. During polymerization, the elements can be temporarily fixed with masking tape.

If necessary, additional use of micro-pins is allowed. The mechanical fixation technique should be determined by the craftsman, taking into account the arrangement of elements, material, and expected load.

Using KN-004 as a connecting element

The large geometric shape KN-004 can serve not only a decorative function. Due to its size, it can be used as a connecting node for two sections of a wooden axis.

Two segments of MLD-060 can be glued into the shape from opposite sides. This method is used when a longer post needs to be assembled or the axis needs to be divided into several parts for ease of manufacturing and transportation.

When connecting two axes, it is especially important to maintain a common center line. Even a slight misalignment inside a large ball will be noticeable on a long straight structure.

Before final fixation, a trial assembly must be performed and the verticality of the entire post must be checked.

Why painting is done after assembly

It is recommended to perform the main painting, tinting, or varnishing after fitting and assembling the kit. Paint material that gets inside the mounting hole can reduce the working size of the channel and make it difficult to install the geometric shape on the axis.

If elements need to be painted separately, the internal channels should be covered with masking tape, plugs, or other protective material.

After the coating has dried, the fit of each part must be checked. Do not install shapes with excessive force: this can damage the painted surface or cause cracking of the wooden element.

The final coating should evenly protect the axis, shapes, ends, and connection points. Special attention should be paid to the lower part of the large ball located near the step.

Attaching the baluster to the staircase structure

KON-014 is a set of decorative wooden elements. The specific method of attaching the finished baluster to the step, stringer, sub-baluster, and handrail is determined by the staircase design.

For installation, the following may be used:

  • wooden dowels;
  • threaded studs;
  • hidden metal fasteners;
  • specialized fasteners for balusters;
  • mounting brackets;
  • joinery connections.

When preparing the mounting points, it is necessary to consider the axis size of 34 × 34 mm. The top and bottom connections must hold the post in the design position and prevent its displacement or loosening.

The spacing of balusters, placement of large figures, method of attaching the handrail, and overall rigidity of the railing are calculated separately. The decorative set does not replace the design of the staircase structure.

It is recommended to entrust the installation of the railing to a qualified specialist. The finished staircase must meet operating conditions and safety requirements.

How to calculate the number of kits

The number of balusters depends on the length of the staircase flight, number of steps, tread width, balustrade length, and the chosen railing scheme.

Before ordering, it is necessary to determine:

  • the number of steps;
  • number of balusters on one step;
  • length of horizontal sections of the railing;
  • distance between posts;
  • location of support pillars;
  • alternation scheme of KON-014 with other balusters;
  • necessary allowance for test assembly.

Due to the maximum width of 170 mm, it is especially important to perform a preliminary layout. The large spheres of adjacent posts must not intersect or be placed too close to each other.

For a large order, it is recommended to first assemble one test set, install it on a mock-up or test section, and only after verification repeat the marking on the remaining balusters.

Can the standard composition be changed?

KON-014 belongs to the STAVROS wooden construction system. The standard composition is a ready-made design scheme, but the arrangement and number of elements can be changed.

Allowed:

  • move geometric shapes along the axis height;
  • reduce the distance between parts;
  • exclude individual small elements;
  • add other shapes with a 34 mm mounting hole;
  • move the large ball to another part of the composition;
  • create shorter or elongated posts;
  • combine several baluster options in one railing.

After any changes, it is necessary to re-check the overall height, maximum width, position of mounting areas, and distances between adjacent posts.

Advantages of the KON-014 kit

  • ready composition for assembling one wooden baluster;
  • overall height 1000 mm;
  • large spherical figure with a diameter of 170 mm;
  • expressive modern design;
  • solid beech or oak array;
  • compatible elements with a mounting size of 34 mm;
  • "Prestige" sanding quality;
  • ability to prepare the surface for enamel;
  • suitable for solid and combined painting;
  • the arrangement and number of figures can be changed;
  • suitable for custom and series staircase projects;
  • Supplied unassembled.

The main advantage of KON-014 is the large lower element, which makes the stair railing recognizable. Even when using several such balusters, the composition remains clearly visible and forms an expressive rhythm along the stairs.

At the same time, the kit retains the capabilities of a modular constructor. The buyer can choose beech or oak, change the color of each element, adjust distances, and combine KON-014 with other posts.

Manufacturing and delivery of KON-014

The KON-014 baluster kit is made to order from solid beech or oak. The average production time is 5–10 days. If the product is in stock, shipment from the warehouse is carried out within three working days.

Delivery is carried out throughout Russia by the transport company CDEK. Unassembled delivery simplifies packaging, transportation, test assembly, and individual finishing of components.

Before placing an order, it is recommended to determine:

  • required number of kits;
  • material — beech or oak;
  • layout of geometric shapes;
  • color and type of finish;
  • baluster spacing in the railing;
  • method of attachment to step and handrail;
  • need to change the standard composition.

KON-014 is suitable for staircase manufacturers, carpentry workshops, interior designers, and private clients who need unusual wooden balusters with a large geometric shape and the possibility of custom painting.

The kit combines natural wood, ready-made part compatibility, and modular assembly freedom. KON-014 allows you to create an expressive staircase railing, balustrade, or decorative interior structure with large spherical accents.
