Baluster kit KON-015 is a ready-made modular composition of natural wood for assembling one vertical decorative post 1000 mm high. The set includes a wooden axis MLD-060 and geometric shapes of the KN series, selected by shape, size and mounting hole.

How to assemble the KON-015 baluster kit

KON-015 is supplied disassembled. Before final fixing, perform a dry assembly without glue and check the sequence of all elements.

Recommended work order:

1. Determine the design height of the finished baluster.
2. Account for the depth of the top and bottom fastening.
3. If necessary, trim the MLD-060 axle.
4. Clean parts from wood dust.
5. Install the KN-007, KN-008, and KN-009 figures on the axis without glue.
6. Check the symmetry of the central composition.
7. Adjust the distance between the elements.
8. Mark the position of each part on the axis.
9. Disassemble the test composition.
10. Apply wood glue to the surfaces to be joined.
11. Install the figures according to the markings made.
12. Check alignment and verticality.
13. Secure the elements until the glue is fully polymerized.
14. Remove any glue residue and perform final finishing.

For assembly, it is recommended to use D3 class PVA glue or another compound suitable for joinery connections. While drying, parts can be temporarily fixed with masking tape.

If necessary, additional use of micro-pins is allowed. The method of mechanical fixation should be determined by the craftsman, taking into account the arrangement of elements and assembly technology.

Using large shapes as connecting nodes

Geometric shapes KN-008 can be used not only as decorative elements, but also as connecting nodes. Two segments of a wooden axle can be glued into such a shape from opposite sides.

This method is convenient when making elongated structures or when dividing the central axle into several parts. Before final fixation, it is necessary to check the alignment of the connected sections.

Even a slight deviation inside the connecting shape can lead to noticeable misalignment of the entire baluster. Therefore, assembly of long structures is recommended to be performed using a straight guide or assembly template.

Why painting is performed after fitting

Painting, tinting, or varnishing is recommended after a trial assembly of the kit. A layer of paint and varnish material inside the mounting hole can reduce its working size and make it difficult to install the shape onto the axle.

If elements are to be painted separately, the mounting channels must be covered with masking tape, plugs, or other protective material.

After the coating has dried, check the fit of all parts. Do not install shapes with excessive force, as this may damage the coating or cause cracking of the wooden element.

Attaching the baluster to the staircase

The KON-015 kit forms a decorative wooden post. The method of its attachment to the step, stringer, sub-baluster, and handrail is selected separately according to the staircase design.

For installation, the following may be used:

• wooden dowels;
• threaded studs;
• specialized fasteners for balusters;
• hidden metal connections;
• mounting brackets;
• joinery connections.

The axle size of 34 × 34 mm must be considered when preparing mounting seats. The top and bottom fasteners must hold the baluster in the design position and prevent loosening during operation.

The spacing of posts, method of connection to the handrail, and overall rigidity of the railing are calculated separately. The set of decorative elements does not replace the design of the staircase structure.

Installation of the staircase railing is recommended to be entrusted to a qualified specialist. The finished structure must comply with the project and current safety requirements.

How to calculate the number of kits

The number of balusters depends on the number of steps, the length of the stair flight, the length of the horizontal balustrade, and the selected distance between posts.

Before ordering, it is necessary to determine:

• the number of steps;
• number of balusters on one step;
• length of horizontal sections of the railing;
• spacing between posts;
• location of support pillars;
• alternation pattern of KON-015 with straight balusters;
• necessary margin.

For a large number of kits, it is recommended to first assemble one sample. After checking the dimensions and position of the figures, a template for the remaining balusters is made based on it.

Can the standard composition be changed?
