Description

Set KON-012 — is a ready-made, matched composition consisting of a wooden axis MLD-060 and geometric shapes KN for assembling one vertical decorative baluster. The number and composition of shapes can be changed or partially excluded to create your own composition.
KON-012 is a stylish solution for creating interior products from natural wood. The set can be used in the production of decorative balusters, supports, stands, as well as for creating interior accents.
Installation
• shapes are fixed onto the wooden rod MLD-060 using wood glue (we recommend PVA D3 glue);
• they can also be secured with painter's tape during glue polymerization;
• additionally, micro pins can be used during installation.
Large shapes act as a connection node — two rods can be glued into them to assemble long structures.
We recommend painting or tinting only after full assembly and installation of all elements. The paint layer may increase the hole diameter and complicate installation. On shaped elements, we advise masking the mounting channel before painting.
Finishing Options
• wood oil — the simplest and most beautiful method, highlighting the natural wood texture;
• enamel of different colors (for bright colored compositions);
• tinting with stains, finishing with transparent varnishes, applying patina.

The company ordered the pens for us when we ordered furniture. But I decided to write a review personally because they are amazing! Stylish, expensive, high-quality!

More than 20 years on the market

The company's success began in 2002, when two artists — Andrey Ragozin and Evgeny Tsapko — created a small creative workshop for producing wooden carved items. The masters' work was quickly noticed, and within a year they were invited to participate in the reconstruction of the Konstantinovskiy Palace in Strelna.

After the success of this project, the company focused on recreating palace interiors, furniture, church furnishings, and carved decorations in various artistic styles. They worked with cultural heritage sites: The Hermitage, the Alexandrovsky Palace, the Troitsko-Izmaylovsky Cathedral, the Sheremetyevsky Mansion, and many others.

The masters' task — and still is — to create wooden items with the highest level of detail and understanding of every element, based on impeccable knowledge of artistic laws and interior styles.

Set of wooden baluster KON-012 made of beech or oak

Baluster set KON-012 — a ready-made modular composition of natural wood for assembling one vertical decorative post 1000 mm high. The set includes a wooden axis MLD-060 and three geometric shapes of the KN series, selected by size, shape, and mounting diameter.

The assembled baluster features a laconic modern geometry. Three spherical elements of different sizes are placed on a straight wooden axis, creating a calm vertical rhythm. The composition looks expressive but does not overload the stair railing with complex carvings or fine ornamentation.

KON-012 is suitable for making wooden balusters for stairs, decorative posts, interior partitions, and other vertical structures. The set can be used in a private house, duplex apartment, hotel, salon, showroom, or other interior where a modern railing made of natural wood is required.

The modular principle allows you to keep the standard composition or change the arrangement of elements. Geometric shapes can be moved vertically, partially excluded, or supplemented with other compatible parts with a 34 mm mounting channel.

Dimensions and characteristics of KON-012

  • total height A — 1000 mm;
  • maximum width B — 130 mm;
  • wooden axis size — 34 × 34 mm;
  • material — solid beech or oak;
  • grinding quality — «Prestige»;
  • surface preparation for painting with enamel is available;
  • the set is supplied unassembled;
  • manufacturing — made to order.

A height of 1000 mm allows the kit to be used when designing stair and interior railings. The actual height of the finished railing depends not only on the length of the baluster, but also on the stair tread design, the lower mounting method, the handrail position, and the depth of the wooden axis insertion.

The maximum width of 130 mm is formed by the large geometric figure KN-014. When placing multiple balusters, its diameter, the distance between adjacent posts, and the requirements of the specific railing project must be taken into account.

Before manufacturing the staircase, it is recommended to perform an accurate layout of the balusters on the plan. The post spacing, the position of large spheres, attachment points, and the handrail height must be determined in advance. This will help maintain a consistent rhythm throughout the entire structure.

Baluster kit composition

The standard KON-012 kit includes:

  • wooden molding MLD-060 size 34 × 34 × 1000 mm — 1 pc.;
  • geometric figure KN-005 size 66 × 76 × 76 mm, mounting hole 34 mm — 1 pc.;
  • geometric figure KN-013 size 104 × 109 mm, mounting size 34 mm — 1 pc.;
  • geometric figure KN-014 size 124 × 130 mm, mounting size 34 mm — 1 pc.

MLD-060 serves as the central wooden axis. Three geometric figures are sequentially installed on it. All elements are compatible in mounting size, so the customer does not need to independently select the rod diameter and check each part.

KN-014 is the largest element of the kit. It creates the main visual accent and forms the maximum width of the baluster. KN-013 has a more compact size and supports the overall spherical geometry. KN-005 completes the composition with a small rounded module.

The standard layout involves placing the large figure at the top, the medium one below, and the compact one closer to the lower part of the axis. The distances between the elements create a light, elongated silhouette and help visually preserve the height of the baluster.

Balusters for a modern staircase

KON-012 is suitable for interiors where traditional turned or carved balusters look too intricate. The straight axis and large spherical elements create a modern composition based on simple geometry and repetition of forms.

The set can be used:

  • for railing a straight flight of stairs;
  • for decorating a turning staircase;
  • for a second-floor balustrade;
  • for a decorative mezzanine railing;
  • for an interior partition;
  • for space zoning;
  • for decorative posts along a podium;
  • for custom wooden structures.

Several identical balusters form an expressive repeating pattern. The arrangement of the spheres can be made the same on all posts, or two or more schemes can be alternated. For example, on one baluster a large element is placed higher, and on the adjacent one — lower. This alternation creates a more dynamic railing.

For a calm result, it is better to use one approved assembly scheme and repeat it along the entire flight of stairs. The uniform position of geometric elements makes the railing neat and architecturally cohesive.

Wooden baluster made of solid beech

Beech is suitable for staircase structures that are planned to be painted with opaque enamel. The material has a fairly uniform texture and, after proper preparation, allows for an even colored coating.

Beech balusters KON-012 can be painted to match the color of walls, steps, handrails, or other interior elements. White finish makes the staircase visually lighter. Black or graphite emphasizes the geometry. Pastel pink, terracotta, blue, or green shades are suitable for modern custom interiors.

Both solid and combined painting are possible. The wooden axis can be made neutral, and the spherical shapes highlighted with contrasting colors. Another option is to paint the entire baluster in one shade, keeping the emphasis only on the volumetric form.

Beech can also be tinted with stain or coated with clear varnish. However, it works especially expressively in projects where the color of the railing must exactly match the interior palette.

Wooden baluster made of solid oak

Oak is chosen for staircases where it is important to preserve the natural grain of the wood. Large spherical elements show the texture of the solid wood well after coating with oil, stain, or clear varnish.

The KON-012 oak kit can be combined with oak steps, handrails, wall panels, doors, baseboards, and furniture. With identical or similar finishes, interior elements are perceived as a single joinery composition.

Light oil preserves the natural shade of oak and is suitable for modern interiors. Tinting allows you to make the wood warmer, darker, or bring its color closer to the flooring. Clear varnish protects the surface and highlights the natural grain.

On spherical elements, the texture of oak is perceived especially expressively: the direction of the fibers changes relative to the light, so the surface looks voluminous even without contrasting staining.

KON-012 Finish Options

The kit comes with a "Prestige" sanding quality. The surface is prepared for further decorative treatment. Before applying the final coating, it is recommended to perform a dry assembly and check the position of all elements.

For finishing a wooden baluster, you can use:

  • wood oil;
  • covering furniture enamel;
  • stain;
  • clear varnish;
  • tinted varnish;
  • patina;
  • a combination of several shades;
  • combination of natural wood and painted parts.

Oil highlights the natural structure of beech or oak and preserves the natural perception of the wood. Stain changes the shade without hiding the grain of the solid wood. Enamel completely covers the texture and allows you to incorporate the balusters into any color scheme.

With a combined finish, large geometric shapes can be made the main color accents. For example, paint the axis and handrail in a calm terracotta shade, and highlight individual spheres with a lighter or darker color.

For a classic wooden interior, a uniform tinting of the baluster, handrail, and steps is recommended. For a modern space, contrast between natural steps and a painted railing is acceptable.

How to assemble the KON-012 baluster kit

The kit is supplied disassembled. Before final fixing, perform a trial assembly without glue. This will allow you to check the sequence of parts, the distance between them, and the final appearance of the baluster.

Recommended assembly order:

  1. Determine the design length of the central axis.
  2. If necessary, trim MLD-060 considering the top and bottom mounting method.
  3. Clean the axis and internal surfaces of the shapes from wood dust.
  4. Sequentially install KN-014, KN-013, and KN-005 on the axis.
  5. Adjust the distance between the elements.
  6. Check the overall height and position of the shapes.
  7. Mark each installation point on the axis.
  8. Disassemble the test composition.
  9. Apply wood glue to the surfaces to be joined.
  10. Return the figures to the marked position.
  11. Check alignment and secure the elements until the glue dries.
  12. After polymerization, remove any residue and perform the final finishing.

To fix the geometric figures, it is recommended to use PVA glue of class D3 or another woodworking adhesive suitable for joining solid wood parts. While drying, the elements can be temporarily held with masking tape.

Additionally, the use of micro-pins is allowed if provided by the workshop's technology. The mechanical fastening method must consider the position of the parts and not impair the appearance of the finished baluster.

Attaching the baluster to the step and handrail

The KON-012 kit forms a decorative wooden post. The specific method of connecting it to the step, sub-rail, handrail, or base is selected separately, taking into account the staircase design.

For installation, the following may be used:

  • wooden dowels;
  • threaded studs;
  • special fasteners for balusters;
  • joinery connections;
  • mounting brackets;
  • hidden metal elements.

The central axis size of 34 × 34 mm must be considered when preparing the mounting holes. The top and bottom connections must ensure the precise position of the baluster and prevent its displacement after installation.

When designing a stair railing, it is necessary to separately calculate the baluster spacing, the method of attaching the handrail, the strength of the base, and the stability of the entire structure. The decorative kit itself does not replace the engineering calculation of the staircase.

It is recommended to entrust the installation of the load-bearing railing to a qualified furniture or staircase specialist. The finished structure must comply with the design, operating conditions, and current safety requirements.

Why finishing is recommended after assembly

Painting, tinting, or varnishing is recommended after a trial assembly. Paint material that gets inside the mounting channel can reduce its working size and make it difficult to install the figure on the MLD-060 axis.

If elements need to be painted separately, the internal holes should be covered with masking tape, a plug, or other protective material. After the coating has dried, the fit of each part must be checked.

Do not install painted figures onto the axis with excessive force. This may damage the paint coating, cause chipping, or create excessive stress inside the wooden element.

After full assembly, special attention should be paid to connection points, ends, and fastening areas. The final coating should evenly protect the wood from all accessible sides.

Can the KON-012 composition be changed

KON-012 belongs to the modular system of a wooden construction set. The standard sequence of elements is a ready-made option but does not limit the possibilities of individual design.

Allowed:

  • change the distance between spherical figures;
  • swap elements;
  • exclude one of the figures;
  • add other modules with a mounting size of 34 mm;
  • assemble a shorter post;
  • create an alternation of several types of balusters;
  • use the set as a base for a decorative partition.

When changing the standard composition, it is necessary to recalculate the total height, maximum width, location of mounting sections, and distance between adjacent posts.

If a staircase requires a large number of identical balusters, it is recommended to first assemble one control sample. After its verification, the position of the figures is transferred to the remaining axes using a template or precise marking.

Options for arranging balusters in the railing

The calmest option is to repeat the same composition on each step. Large, medium, and small balls will be at the same level and form horizontal visual lines along the flight of stairs.

A more dynamic option is to alternate the arrangement of elements. On one post, a large ball is placed higher, on the next, lower. This technique creates rhythm and makes the railing visually lighter.

You can also alternate KON-012 with straight wooden posts without decorative elements. In this case, the complete balusters become accents, while the simple slats create a calm background.

For a long balustrade, you can use a repeating module consisting of one KON-012 and several straight posts. The number and spacing of elements are determined by the railing design.

Advantages of the KON-012 kit

  • ready composition for assembling one wooden baluster;
  • height 1000 mm;
  • solid beech or oak array;
  • compatible elements with a mounting size of 34 mm;
  • concise modern geometry;
  • three spherical figures of different sizes;
  • "Prestige" sanding quality;
  • possibility of preparation for enamel painting;
  • suitable for natural and colored finishes;
  • the composition and arrangement of parts can be changed;
  • convenient delivery in disassembled form;
  • suitable for custom and serial projects.

The main advantage of KON-012 is the ready compatibility of all components. The buyer does not need to separately look for a wooden axis and check the dimensions of the mounting holes. The elements are already selected into a single composition.

At the same time, the kit retains the freedom of a construction set. The arrangement of the balls can be changed, the finish can be selected to match the interior, and several balusters can be combined into an individual staircase railing pattern.

Manufacturing and delivery of the kit

The KON-012 baluster kit is made to order from solid beech or oak. The average production time is 5–10 days. If the product is in stock, shipment from the warehouse is carried out within three working days.

Delivery is carried out throughout Russia by the transport company CDEK. The kit is supplied disassembled, which simplifies packaging, transportation, test assembly, and individual finishing.

Before placing an order, it is recommended to determine:

  • required number of balusters;
  • wood species — beech or oak;
  • layout of the figures;
  • color and type of finish coating;
  • spacing of posts in the railing;
  • method of top and bottom attachment;
  • need to change the standard composition.

The KON-012 kit is suitable for staircase manufacturers, carpentry workshops, interior designers, and private customers who need modern wooden balusters with simple, expressive, and easily adaptable geometry.

KON-012 combines natural wood, a ready-made set of compatible elements, and the possibilities of a modular constructor. The kit allows you to create an original staircase railing, a decorative partition, or a vertical interior composition with individual placement and finishing of parts.
