The fireplace surround is already in place. Its proportions are satisfactory, you don't want to redo the finishing, the side parts are complete — but above there remains a large empty field of wall. It doesn't require a new surround and doesn't need complex reconstruction. Only a clear decorative finish is needed. And here a much more practical question arises than "which stucco is suitable for a fireplace": buy one ready-made NPU-422 measuring 877 × 250 × 18 mm or assemble the upper zone yourself from KPU-001?

Externally, both paths lead to the same goal — removing the feeling of incompleteness above the fireplace. In terms of order composition, these are completely different solutions.

NPU-422 is a ready-made horizontal composition. The central medallion, symmetrical side scrolls, set proportions, and a finished silhouette are all in one product. You measure the free wall, make a template of 877 × 250 mm, check the position relative to the fireplace, and if the scale fits, you buy one product item.

KPU-001 works differently. It is a polyurethane decorative molding 2000 mm long, produced in four cross-sections: 20 × 8, 30 × 11, 40 × 15, and 50 × 19 mm. Here you don't buy ready-made central decor. You determine the width of the frame, the length of the horizontal, the side sections, the number of elements, connection points, and whether additional overlays are needed.

Therefore, comparing these products only by the price of one piece is incorrect.

NPU-422 is a complete decorative task.

KPU-001 is a material from which the decorative task still needs to be assembled.

It is this difference that determines both the budget, the number of items in the cart, and the volume of preliminary calculations.

An empty wall above a finished fireplace — first we measure it, not choose an ornament

When the portal is already installed, the initial geometry is known. This simplifies the choice: you do not need to design the entire fireplace, just understand what is happening in the free field above it.

You will need not dozens of sizes, but a few specific ones.

The first is the external width of the fireplace portal.

The second is the free width of the wall that can generally be used for decor.

The third is the distance from the top line of the portal to the ceiling cornice, ceiling, molding, painting, mirror, or another object above.

The fourth is the position of the fireplace axis relative to the wall.

The fifth is the distances to neighboring objects: cabinets, doors, lights, and wall frames.

These numbers are not needed for complex architectural math. They allow you to immediately check the simplest solution — NPU-422.

Its actual dimensions are known:

877 × 250 × 18 mm.

Cut out a rectangle of 877 × 250 mm from paper or cardboard.

Place it above the portal.

Do not try to reproduce the pattern yet. At the first stage, the scale is what matters.

If the rectangle looks too small and gets lost on a large wall, the issue is not resolved.

If it almost touches neighboring elements, the finished composition may turn out to be too large.

If 877 × 250 mm naturally occupies the central upper zone, it makes sense to move on to the real NPU-422.

Thus, one paper template can save you from much more complex design work.

NPU-422: what exactly the buyer gets for one product item

The finished decor has one big practical advantage: the compositional work is already done within the product itself.

NPU-422 has a horizontal character.

In the center is a medallion.

On the sides, a symmetrical ornament with curls develops.

The entire drawing is subordinated to one axis.

Therefore, the buyer does not need to decide on their own:

where the center should be;

What length should the right part be;

how to repeat it on the left;

How to finish the side sections;

how to achieve symmetry;

How many different ornaments to combine.

It does not have a single finished outline with a width of 877 mm.

It is a long decorative element from which you can build your own lines.

All four options have a length of 2000 mm, but differ in width and thickness.

When one NPU-422 turns out to be more rational than an entire typesetting system

A ready-made overlay is especially strong where the buyer really needs one central decorative point.

The fireplace is already beautiful on its own.

There is no desire to add a new frame around the entire area.

This is where NPU-422 is very clear.

You are not rebuilding the fireplace architecture. You are adding a top horizontal accent.

You like its pattern specifically.

This is an obvious but often forgotten criterion.

If the central medallion and symmetrical scrolls already match the character of the interior, why break down a ready-made idea into separate lines?

The finished product allows you to immediately see the future result.

A width of 877 mm suits the free field

It does not have to match the fireplace width millimeter by millimeter.

The main thing is that the overlay looks connected to the portal.

It should be perceived together with the fireplace and the wall.

A height of 250 mm is not squeezed from above

If there is enough free wall left between the fireplace and the ceiling decor, the NPU-422 gets space for normal perception.

If 250 mm almost completely fills the entire vertical, the fitting should be evaluated especially strictly.

A minimum number of parts is desired

One large element is easier to account for in the cart than several linear pieces and additional decorative fragments.

Here order NPU-422 for the area above the fireplace means buying exactly the finished central part, not raw material for further design.

When KPU-001 makes more sense

The modular option wins not because it is “better,” but when the ready-made geometry of NPU-422 limits the project.

The free field is much wider than 877 mm

On a large wall, a ready-made element may seem insufficiently scaled.

You can, of course, leave significant empty margins on the right and left. Sometimes that looks beautiful.

But if the task is to architecturally cover the entire wide area, linear elements give more freedom.

Need to repeat the contour of the fireplace itself

Suppose the width of the portal requires a decorative horizontal line of a different length.

KPU-001 can be designed for this geometry.

Need side parts

NPU-422 is a horizontal element.

If you want not only the top, but also vertical extensions, a modular system becomes more logical.

A central medallion is not needed

This does not mean that any composition requires four elements.

The table shows something else: the price of KPU-001 should be considered together with the actual quantity.

If the project fits within one two-meter plank, the situation is one thing.

If three are required due to dimensions, layout, and cutting scheme, it is quite another.

And that is exactly why, before ordering KPU-001, you need a drawing, even if it is hand-drawn.

How to calculate KPU-001 for your own frame

It is convenient to calculate the linear footage in running meters.

Suppose you decide to make a U-shaped decorative frame above the fireplace:

top horizontal — 1200 mm;

two side parts — 400 mm each.

Total required length:

1200 + 400 + 400 = 2000 mm.

Theoretically, this is exactly the length of one KPU-001.

But this calculation shows only the total length. The actual cutting and joining plan must be checked separately before installation.

If the frame is closed and a bottom horizontal 1200 mm is added:

1200 + 400 + 400 + 1200 = 3200 mm.

Based on the total length, at least two two-meter strips are already required.

The budget changes immediately.

That is, a simple phrase "we'll make a frame from KPU" without dimensions says nothing about the cost.

First, draw KPU-001 on the wall with painter's tape

For NPU-422, you need a rectangular template 877 × 250 mm.

For KPU-001, another method is more useful.

Take painter's tape and outline the future frame on the wall.

Not an ornament drawing — only lines.

For example:

width 1100 mm;

height 350 mm;

two side verticals;

one top horizontal.

Step away from the wall.

Check if the frame has become too small relative to the fireplace.

Then expand it to 1300 mm.

Compare.

And only after the geometry is determined, calculate the total footage of KPU-001.

This is much more reliable than buying one two-meter strip and then deciding what frame can be made from it.

20, 30, 40 or 50 mm: the width of KPU-001 changes not only the price

The four versions differ in frontal width and thickness.

20 × 8 mm

The most compact.

It creates a thinner decorative line.

This size is logical to try first if the fireplace area is already saturated with details and the new frame should work calmly.

30 × 11 mm

The line becomes more noticeable.

With a sufficiently large portal, 30 mm may better maintain the connection between the fireplace and the wall.

40 × 15 mm

This is already a significantly more pronounced profile.

It participates more strongly in the wall architecture and requires sufficient space.

50 × 19 mm

Large trim.

On a large wall it may be appropriate, but next to a small portal it can be excessive.

Why 50 mm does not mean 'richer' and 20 mm does not mean 'simpler'

Profile size is not a quality scale.

Large molding requires a large architectural field.

If the fireplace is small and the upper wall is low, a wide line can visually reduce the free space.

A narrow KPU-001, on the contrary, sometimes better emphasizes the geometry without taking attention away from the portal itself.

Therefore, you should choose not the maximum size, but the one that matches the scale.

It has its own fairly complex relief.

If the fireplace already contains many decorative details, an additional heavy frame made of KPU-001 50 mm may be unnecessary.

NPU-422 above a narrow fireplace: do not focus only on 877 mm

Suppose the fireplace portal is relatively compact.

The question arises: will the NPU-422 be wider than it?

By itself, this is not prohibited.

The decor above the door or mantel does not have to match the lower object in width millimeter by millimeter.

But extending beyond its visual boundaries should look intentional.

This is exactly what the template is for.

If a 877 × 250 mm rectangle clearly "hovers" over a small portal and seems like a separate object, it's better to consider another Relief Decoration or a more individual modular scheme.

If the curls naturally spread above the top line of the fireplace and bring the composition together as a whole, a slight excess in width is not a problem.

NPU-422 above a wide portal: when 877 mm may prove insufficient

The reverse case.

The fireplace is wide.

The wall is spacious.

The NPU-422 template occupies a small central part.

This is not automatically bad.

If a small central medallion accent is needed, the empty space on the sides can work in its favor.

But if the task is to tie together the entire width of the fireplace architecture, a single element may not be enough.

This is where KPU-001 or another system comes in. Decorative polyurethane moldings.

Molding can be calculated based on the actual width of the wall and portal, instead of fitting a large object to a fixed 877 mm.

Height of 250 mm: a small number that can decide the choice.

The buyer most often looks at the width of NPU-422.

But above the finished fireplace, the vertical space may be limited.

Ceiling cornice.

Painting.

Mirror.

Lamp.

Wall molding.

Even just a low ceiling.

The height of the NPU-422 is 250 mm.

If there is only a little more than this value between the top of the fireplace and the nearest upper boundary, the decor may look cramped.

No need to measure by the principle:

"250 fits into 270, so it's suitable."

Physical fit does not equal good composition.

Free space is required around the relief.

Its exact size cannot be set with one universal number, so the template works again.

The central axis of the fireplace should control NPU-422

The finished composition is symmetrical.

Therefore, its natural support is the central axis of the fireplace portal.

An error occurs when the fireplace itself is located on the wall slightly asymmetrically and there is a desire to center the NPU-422 relative to the entire wall.

Then the fireplace looks at one point, the medallion at another.

The connection is broken.

If the NPU-422 is used specifically as over-mantel decor, the first reference should be the fireplace axis.

The wall surroundings are considered as a second step.

If, after proper centering, the overlay conflicts with a neighboring object, this is a signal to reconsider the product choice itself, rather than shifting the medallion randomly.

KPU-001 works more easily with an asymmetrical wall.

It is here that the modular option gains an advantage.

Suppose to the right of the fireplace there is a door, and to the left there is a large open space.

Centered NPU-422 fits poorly.

A frame made of KPU-001 can be designed more flexibly, linking it to the fireplace and existing architecture.

But the word "flexibly" does not mean "any way you like."

Even a custom composition must have clear verticals, distances, and finishes.

It's just that KPU-001 allows you to set these parameters yourself, while NPU-422 brings them ready-made.

Fireplace and mirror above it: NPU-422 or a frame?

If the mirror is already hanging, the empty zone is not the entire upper part of the wall, but the space between the fireplace and the mirror or around it.

In that case, a large horizontal NPU-422 may turn out to be too self-sufficient.

You need to check whether triple competition arises:

fireplace;

stucco medallion;

Mirror.

Sometimes a calmer frame system made of KPU-001 connects objects better.

In another composition, on the contrary, the mirror is placed quite high, and NPU-422 becomes a wonderful horizontal link beneath it.

Again, the answer is given not by the style name, but by the actual dimensions.

If there is a painting above the fireplace

The painting already has its own frame and its own center.

Therefore, the large medallion beneath it requires caution.

Place two paper templates on the wall:

the outline of NPU-422;

the outline of the future painting.

This way, you can immediately see if there is enough space between them.

If the ornamental overlay starts to be perceived as a second frame for the painting, the KPU-001 molding may provide a calmer solution.

And sometimes it is NPU-422 that creates a beautiful transition from the fireplace to the artwork.

Without a real scale, arguing is pointless.

Fireplace without an upper object: the strongest situation for NPU-422

If there is truly only a blank wall above the portal, the finished composition gains maximum freedom.

No mirror.

No TV.

No painting.

No shelves.

Then the NPU-422 could become the single center of the upper field.

In this case, the idea is especially clean:

a fireplace at the bottom;

a central medallion above it;

free wall around.

If the dimensions fit, a complex frame system may simply not be needed.

When is it better to make KPU-001 only as a horizontal strip?

Not every modular project has to turn into a frame.

Sometimes you want to continue the horizontal line of the fireplace shelf or form a decorative band above.

Then a single long line is used.

From an ordering perspective, this can be noticeably simpler.

For example, a section of 1400 mm is required.

One KPU-001 has a length of 2000 mm.

In terms of total length, one strip is sufficient for such a horizontal line.

Then the budget comparison with NPU-422 becomes more interesting:

KPU-001 20 mm — 6,190 ₽;

30 mm — 7,380 ₽;

40 mm — 11,770 ₽;

50 mm — 13,500 ₽.

In this specific scenario, a narrow or medium KPU-001 can indeed cost noticeably less than a ready-made NPU-422.

But the result is also different: you get a decorative line, not a medallion with side curls.

When two or more strips are needed for KPU-001

The need arises if the total length of elements exceeds 2000 mm or a specific cutting pattern does not fit into one blank.

A U-shaped composition can quickly exceed this limit.

For example:

horizontal 1200 mm;

side panels 500 mm each.

Total length:

1200 + 500 + 500 = 2200 mm.

This is already more than one KPU-001.

So, at least a second two-meter plank is required, and the actual cutting layout should be checked separately.

For the 20-millimeter option, the product part of the basket becomes 12,380 ₽.

Practically the same as one NPU-422.

For 30 mm — already 14,760 ₽.

That is why the frame size must be determined before ordering.

How to understand whether a central medallion is needed at all

Answer a simple question:

What is missing on the wall — a pattern or an architectural boundary?

If the center feels empty, NPU-422 is very logical.

If the problem is that the fireplace seems not connected to the wall, perhaps a frame or continuation of lines is needed.

These tasks are similar only in words.

The medallion creates a focus.

The frame creates structure.

If you mix them up, even expensive stucco won't fix the feeling of incompleteness.

Small living room: don't overload the top of the fireplace

In a compact room, the portal is visible from a relatively close distance.

Large relief is perceived more strongly.

If the fireplace itself is already decorative, NPU-422 can either beautifully complete it or add one last unnecessary layer.

Check the paper template under normal lighting.

Not only standing in front of the fireplace.

Look from the sofa.

From the entrance.

From the adjacent part of the room.

If the ornament constantly draws attention to itself, a more subtle KPU-001 might create the desired architectural line more calmly.

Spacious living room: NPU-422 may be too local.

On a long wall, the situation is reversed.

877 mm seems like a large size while the product lies separately.

On a wall several meters wide, the element can turn into a relatively small center.

This is not a mistake at all if such an effect is needed.

But if the emptiness remains noticeable on the sides, you can:

add a wall system;

use KPU-001;

look at another Polyurethane wall decor.

The main thing is not to increase the number of elements spontaneously.

High ceiling: a free field requires a vertical solution

With a high ceiling, the emptiness above the fireplace can remain even after installing the NPU-422.

The element itself, 250 mm high, occupies only part of the space.

If the wall is truly tall, the question arises: is only a horizontal detail needed, or is an architectural system above required?

The KPU-001 allows building frames and verticals.

But that is already a different scope of the project.

If you only need a local top accent, the NPU-422 remains appropriate even on a tall wall — provided the empty space around it is perceived as intentional.

Not every free surface must be filled.

Low ceiling: the NPU-422 must be fitted with particular care.

Here, 250 mm work harder.

If the top of the fireplace is already high, a small strip may remain between it and the ceiling cornice.

The finished decor can completely fill it.

Sometimes this creates a beautiful dense composition.

Sometimes — the feeling that the product was squeezed into the remaining space.

A narrow KPU-001 20 or 30 mm in such a situation can provide an architectural hint without overload.

The wall is already decorated with moldings

If the room has a systematic polyurethane moldings, the fireplace area cannot be considered separately from it.

Frames on adjacent walls set:

KPU-001 is easier to integrate into an existing grid if this geometry needs to be continued.

NPU-422, in contrast, introduces an independent ornamental center.

Which path is better depends on whether the wall needs another frame or a new focal point.

Not wanting to design anything is also a valid criterion.

The buyer sometimes knows exactly one thing:

I don't want to assemble a composition from parts.

This is not a lack of a design approach.

You need to choose the scale once, order the element, install it, and finish the wall.

In that case, the NPU-422 has an obvious advantage.

If the 877 × 250 mm template fits, there is no reason to create complexity for its own sake.

If you want a unique layout, then the ready-made NPU-422 can get in the way.

Another person, on the contrary, wants to control every size.

A fireplace 1380 mm wide.

Above it, a frame of 1200 × 450 mm is needed.

An existing molding runs along the top.

On the sides — a bra.

In such a situation, the fixed silhouette of NPU-422 can constrain the project.

The KPU-001 is more interesting precisely because it doesn't dictate a ready-made width.

Here it makes sense to order the KPU-001 from polyurethane after the final marking of the entire composition.

One NPU-422 and two side lines: a mixed option

The choice is not necessarily binary.

Sometimes the central NPU-422 is very appealing, but the wall is wider.

Then a ready-made medallion element can become the center, and a different architecture develops on the sides.

However, such a project can no longer be considered "bought one NPU-422 and that's it."

It turns into a combined system.

Need to check:

scale compatibility;

distances;

total width;

terrain repetition;

end points.
