Description

KPU-001 is a polyurethane dentil molding with a rhythmic classical ornament available in four profile sizes: 20 × 8, 30 × 11, 40 × 15, and 50 × 19 mm, each 2000 mm (78.74 in) long. The repeating architectural relief creates a clear pattern of projections and recesses, allowing the same KPU-001 design to be selected in different scales for furniture, wall panels, decorative borders, and larger interior compositions.

This decorative polyurethane molding works well for classic and neoclassical wall frames, ceiling-area borders, doors, mirrors, furniture fronts, and layered molding systems. The four coordinated sizes make it possible to preserve the same ornamental language while adjusting the visual weight of the profile to the dimensions of the room or decorative surface.

Classical Acanthus Leaf Trim for Walls, Furniture, Doors, and Panels

KPU-001 is an Acanthus Leaf molding designed for interiors where the molding itself should contribute recognizable classical ornament rather than function as a simple plain border.

The pattern is formed by a continuous sequence of sculpted leaves. Each motif spreads across the width of the profile and repeats along the full 2000 mm / 78.74 in length, creating a strong but orderly botanical rhythm.

KPU-001 is available in four coordinated profile sizes:

  • 20 × 8 × 2000 mm / 0.79 × 0.31 × 78.74 in
  • 30 × 11 × 2000 mm / 1.18 × 0.43 × 78.74 in
  • 40 × 15 × 2000 mm / 1.57 × 0.59 × 78.74 in
  • 50 × 19 × 2000 mm / 1.97 × 0.75 × 78.74 in

All current variants are made from polyurethane. Ставрос Декор

This range allows the same ornament to work at several architectural scales instead of forcing one molding size into every application.

What Is Acanthus Leaf Molding?

Acanthus leaf molding is an ornamental architectural profile based on the stylized leaves of the acanthus plant.

Acanthus is one of the oldest and most recognizable motifs in Western classical architecture. It appears in Greek Corinthian capitals, Roman decoration, Renaissance interiors, Baroque ornament, and later neoclassical design.

The characteristic visual language includes:

  • broad spreading leaves;
  • curved lobes;
  • pointed or rolled leaf tips;
  • deep recessed areas;
  • repeated botanical rhythm.

STAVROS itself classifies KPU-001 under the Acanthus ornament category. Ставрос

In the U.S. architectural-millwork market, Acanthus Leaf Molding is also established product terminology. Ekena markets Acanthus Leaf Panel Moulding, while White River uses Acanthus Leaf in urethane molding names. ekenamillwork.com

That makes this a much more accurate name for KPU-001 than generic decorative molding or the previously suggested dentil molding.

Why KPU-001 Should Not Be Called Dentil Molding

A dentil ornament consists of repeated rectangular blocks resembling small teeth.

KPU-001 does not have that visual structure.

The actual product photographs show repeating carved-style leaf motifs with deep botanical relief, not a sequence of rectangular dentils.

One older STAVROS article refers to KPU-001 as a “classic cornice with dentils,” but that description conflicts with the actual product image and with STAVROS's own Acanthus product filter. For the American product card, the physical product and catalog classification should take precedence. Ставрос Декор

So the correct naming hierarchy is:

Acanthus Leaf Molding — primary

Acanthus Molding / Leaf Molding / Leaf Trim — close supporting terms

Decorative Molding / Ornamental Molding / Polyurethane Molding — broader supporting terms.

Four Sizes for Different Decorative Scales

One of the strongest advantages of KPU-001 is that the same Acanthus Leaf ornament is available in four widths and relief depths.

20 × 8 mm KPU-001

The smallest version measures approximately 0.79 × 0.31 in.

This is the most refined option for:

  • furniture fronts;
  • cabinet doors;
  • mirrors;
  • smaller wall panels;
  • door inserts;
  • secondary ornamental borders.

The leaf pattern remains clearly identifiable, but the overall decorative line stays relatively compact.

30 × 11 mm KPU-001

The 1.18 × 0.43 in version creates more presence without becoming a large architectural molding.

It is suitable for:

  • medium wall panels;
  • furniture fronts;
  • decorative doors;
  • mirrors;
  • built-in furniture;
  • layered molding systems.

40 × 15 mm KPU-001

At 1.57 × 0.59 in, the molding becomes a stronger architectural element.

This size works well for:

  • larger framed wall panels;
  • substantial furniture;
  • decorative doorway compositions;
  • formal mirrors;
  • upper-wall borders.

50 × 19 mm KPU-001

The largest version measures approximately 1.97 × 0.75 in.

Its deeper relief and broader face allow the acanthus leaves to remain clearly visible at greater viewing distance.

This version is particularly suitable for:

  • large wall panels;
  • formal rooms;
  • architectural furniture;
  • major decorative borders;
  • doors and portals;
  • substantial layered compositions.

Acanthus Leaf Molding for Furniture Fronts

KPU-001 can be used as furniture molding when the selected size matches the scale of the front.

The smaller versions are especially suitable for:

  • cabinet doors;
  • wardrobes;
  • display cabinets;
  • sideboards;
  • built-in furniture;
  • framed furniture panels.

A typical composition may use:

main furniture frame → KPU-001 Acanthus Leaf molding → central panel

The surrounding frame controls the furniture geometry.

KPU-001 introduces classical leaf ornament.

The central panel provides visual rest.

For furniture, profile scale is especially important. A 20 mm version can look refined on a medium cabinet front, while the 50 mm profile may require a much larger architectural cabinet or wardrobe to remain proportionate.

Decorative Leaf Trim for Cabinet Doors

The smaller KPU-001 sizes can create an ornamental frame around:

  • painted cabinet fronts;
  • recessed panels;
  • wardrobe doors;
  • decorative glass inserts;
  • architectural cabinetry.

The repeating leaves create a much richer edge than plain furniture trim.

At the same time, because the ornament is repeated linearly rather than applied as separate appliqués, it can define the complete geometry of the panel.

When using KPU-001 across several cabinet fronts, maintain consistent spacing and choose the same cutting logic for each frame.

This helps the leaf ornament appear intentional across the whole furniture composition.

Acanthus Leaf Molding for Decorative Wall Panels

KPU-001 also works naturally as decorative wall molding.

The different sizes allow it to perform several roles.

The 20 or 30 mm profiles may work as:

  • inner panel borders;
  • secondary ornamental lines;
  • smaller picture-frame molding.

The 40 or 50 mm profiles may work as:

  • primary borders on large panels;
  • strong decorative wall bands;
  • major architectural accents.

A layered composition may use:

wide smooth molding → KPU-001 Acanthus Leaf molding → central wall field

This gives the wall both architectural structure and ornament.

For broader structural profiles, browse STAVROS polyurethane moldings.

KPU-001 as Panel Molding

The panel molding application is particularly useful because KPU-001 is offered in several scales.

Instead of using the exact same width everywhere, the designer can create hierarchy.

For example:

  • 50 mm KPU-001 for the main large panel;
  • 30 mm KPU-001 for smaller secondary frames;
  • 20 mm KPU-001 for furniture or finer detail.

Using the same ornament at several sizes can create unity throughout an interior without making every surface identical.

This approach is especially effective in classical interiors where repetition of motif is an important part of the decorative system.

Decorative Molding for Doors

KPU-001 can also be used on decorative door surfaces.

Suitable applications include:

  • door-panel borders;
  • decorative inserts;
  • framed glazed sections;
  • ornamental panels;
  • portal details.

The molding should normally be treated as the decorative layer rather than the main functional casing around the opening.

A door composition may therefore use:

main casing → plain spacing → KPU-001 Acanthus Leaf ornament

or apply KPU-001 directly to the door leaf.

The larger sizes can create a more formal architectural effect, while smaller profiles are better suited to detailed door-panel work.

Acanthus Leaf Trim for Mirrors

Mirrors are another suitable application.

KPU-001 may be used:

  • as a complete ornamental frame;
  • as an inner leaf border inside a larger molding;
  • on selected top and side sections;
  • within a larger decorative wall-panel system.

For a small mirror, the 20 mm version may be sufficient.

For a large architectural mirror, a 40 or 50 mm profile may provide more appropriate scale.

For additional decorative elements that can accompany the frame, browse STAVROS polyurethane decorative elements and onlays.

Why the Acanthus Pattern Works in Classic Interiors

The acanthus leaf is one of the defining ornaments of classical architectural decoration.

Its repeated leaves introduce:

  • botanical movement;
  • recognizable historical character;
  • deep sculptural relief;
  • alternating highlights and shadows.

KPU-001 can therefore be coordinated with:

  • paneled walls;
  • decorative doors;
  • classical furniture;
  • mirrors;
  • cornices;
  • pilasters;
  • relief appliqués;
  • ceiling decoration.

Because the molding already contains an expressive leaf pattern, neighboring profiles often work best when they are simpler.

This gives the acanthus enough visual space to remain readable.

KPU-001 in Neoclassical Interiors

Acanthus does not have to produce an excessively ornate interior.

In neoclassical design, KPU-001 can be used selectively.

For example:

  • one ornamental inner line inside a large simple wall frame;
  • a leaf border around a mirror;
  • decorative furniture fronts;
  • selected door-panel detailing;
  • a horizontal architectural band.

Painting the molding in the same color as the surrounding surface makes the result much more restrained.

The leaf ornament then appears through relief and shadow rather than strong color contrast.

Why Polyurethane Works Well for Detailed Leaf Relief

The complex KPU-001 pattern depends on clear repetition.

Every leaf should maintain the same proportions and detail from one molding section to the next.

A molded polyurethane profile allows the ornament to repeat consistently along each section.

This is especially valuable when KPU-001 is used for:

  • matching wall panels;
  • multiple cabinet fronts;
  • repeated doors;
  • symmetrical compositions;
  • long decorative borders.

The material is therefore not simply an alternative to carved wood; it is well suited to a design that relies on repeatable ornamental geometry.

Choosing the Right KPU-001 Size

Choose 20 × 8 mm when you need:

  • fine furniture detailing;
  • narrow panel borders;
  • small mirror trim;
  • an inner decorative frame.

Choose 30 × 11 mm when you need:

  • a medium ornamental line;
  • furniture or wall panels;
  • more visible leaf relief.

Choose 40 × 15 mm when you need:

  • stronger wall molding;
  • larger doors or mirrors;
  • an architectural decorative line.

Choose 50 × 19 mm when you need:

  • a substantial classical border;
  • large panels;
  • formal architectural detailing;
  • ornament visible from farther away.

The best profile is not automatically the largest one.

Scale should be matched to the actual surface.

Full-Scale Testing Before Ordering

A product photo is excellent for viewing ornament but poor for judging real scale.

Before ordering multiple KPU-001 pieces, mark the intended molding width on the wall, door, mirror, or furniture surface.

For example, compare strips at:

20 mm
30 mm
40 mm
50 mm

This makes the differences immediately obvious.

STAVROS itself recommends using real dimensions when choosing among the KPU-001 sizes rather than assuming the largest profile will always create the best result. Ставрос Декор

Pattern Alignment on Long Runs

KPU-001 has a repeating leaf ornament, so longitudinal joints require more planning than smooth molding.

A physical joint can be tight but still look wrong if:

  • two leaves appear too close together;
  • a leaf is cut awkwardly;
  • the pattern suddenly changes spacing;
  • the central axes do not align.

Before cutting:

  1. place adjacent sections together;
  2. identify the leaf repeat;
  3. choose the best joint point;
  4. mark both pieces;
  5. dry-fit;
  6. inspect the ornamental rhythm.

This is especially important for large wall panels and long horizontal decorative bands.

Planning Corners

Corners require the same attention.

When KPU-001 is used around a rectangular panel:

  • establish all frame dimensions first;
  • make one test miter;
  • inspect how the leaf motif reaches the cut;
  • compare the opposite side;
  • keep the cutting logic consistent.

It may not be possible to position an identical leaf at every corner.

The practical goal is a balanced appearance without obviously awkward partial motifs.

How Much KPU-001 Should You Order?

Each KPU-001 piece is 2000 mm / 78.74 in long regardless of profile width. Ставрос Декор

Calculate quantity from the actual project geometry.

For example, a U-shaped decorative composition with:

  • horizontal section: 1200 mm;
  • left vertical: 500 mm;
  • right vertical: 500 mm

requires:

1200 + 500 + 500 = 2200 mm

which already exceeds one 2000 mm molding.

At least two sections are therefore needed. STAVROS uses exactly this type of calculation when explaining KPU-001 project planning. Ставрос Декор

Then add consideration for:

  • corner cuts;
  • pattern matching;
  • usable offcuts;
  • installation reserve.

KPU-001 as a Modular Decorative Element

One of the useful characteristics of KPU-001 is that it is not a finished single decorative composition.

It is a linear element from which the designer builds a custom frame, border, or line.

STAVROS explicitly contrasts KPU-001 with finished decorative appliqués: KPU-001 allows the buyer to determine the frame width, side lengths, number of sections, and connection points. Ставрос Декор

That makes it especially appropriate for:

  • custom furniture;
  • non-standard wall panels;
  • fireplace surrounds;
  • mirrors of unusual dimensions;
  • custom door compositions.

Combining KPU-001 With Other STAVROS Moldings

KPU-001 can be used alone or as the ornamental layer inside a broader architectural system.

For example:

plain outer molding → KPU-001 Acanthus Leaf molding → central panel
