Frame as an architectural argument: INTPU-003 wall panels

Wall panel with large moldings and corner stucco decor

There are interior solutions that need no explanation. You walk into a room and immediately understand: they thought about the walls. Not just about the furniture, not just about the light — about the walls as architecture. A framed molding panel with corner decor is one such solution. It doesn't shout, it doesn't show off — it simply exists. Convincingly, completely, in its place.

This is exactly what the INTPU-003 idea embodies. Two elements:Primed MDF molding MLD-003-MGandPolyurethane molding MLDPU-003U. The first forms a large frame geometry. The second completes the corners of this frame with a decorative polyurethane accent. Together — an architectural statement on the wall that works in a living room, bedroom, hall, study, entryway, and any premium commercial space.

INTPU-003 is not about the ornamental heaviness of INTPU-001 with its acanthus and volutes. Nor about the laconic purity of INTPU-002, where there is only molding. It is the middle ground: a frame with character, a corner with an accent, a system with completeness.

Architectural logic of INTPU-003: two elements, one system

Before talking about the elements individually — you need to understand why they work together. This is key in INTPU-003.

The MLD-003-MG molding forms four straight lines of the frame: two vertical runs, two horizontal ones. At the intersection of the lines are the corners. It is at the corners that the frame either looks finished or incomplete. A simple mitered joint at a 45° angle is a technical answer, not a decorative one. Neat, but impersonal.

MLDPU-003U closes corners fundamentally differently: the decorative polyurethane element overlaps the joint of molding runs and turns it from a technical point into a decorative accent. The frame gets not just a corner — it gets a nodal point that organizes the entire system.

It is this difference that makes INTPU-003 more expressive than just a frame made of molding. The corner is where geometry gets a voice.

MLD-003-MG: large profile, confident architecture

MDF molding MLD-003-MG is the load-bearing element of the INTPU-003 concept. Without it, there is no frame, no panel, no system.

Profile parameters

Characteristic Value
Profile height 35 мм
Thickness 12 мм
Plank length 2600 мм
Material High-density MDF
Finish Factory priming (Prestige series)
Price from 1,680 RUB

35 mm in height is not a decorative detail, but an architectural element. A molding of this cross-section is visible from the opposite end of the living room. It sets a scale appropriate to the room. A thin profile (12–18 mm) on a large wall gets lost — it is perceived as a scratch, not a frame. MLD-003-MG holds the wall.

12 mm thickness creates a protrusion sufficient to form a double shadow: from the front face and from the side plane of the profile. When illuminated at an angle — and this is how most light fixtures in a residential interior work — this double shadow makes the frame "sculptural." A flat line turns into a three-dimensional form.

2600 mm length is a key parameter for vertical runs. Most residential spaces have a ceiling height of 2.5–2.7 m.primed molding MLD-003-MGcovers this height with a single run without a joint. A joint in the middle of a vertical molding is a visual break that cannot be completely hidden after painting. One run — one continuous architectural line.

Why MDF is better than wood for painting

A common question: isn't real wood more noble? In the context of molding for a final enamel finish — no.

Wood has a fiber structure that, when painted with a thin layer, shows through on the face of the profile. This is especially noticeable on horizontal surfaces and ends. MDF is uniform: dense, without pores, without fibers. The final enamel onMDF molding for paintingapplies perfectly evenly along the entire length — no texture showing through, no areas with different absorbency.

Factory priming of the Prestige series solves another problem: the ends of the MDF profile (the most vulnerable spot) are already treated. Without priming, the ends absorb paint much more actively than the face surface and look darker after drying. With factory primer, one final coat of primer-sealer is enough — and the ends are painted evenly.

Installation of MLD-003-MG: key points

Installation is done with acrylic or polyurethane construction adhesive. Application — in a zigzag pattern on the back side of the profile, with a spacing of 100–150 mm. After installing the run — additional fixation with finishing nails through the molding body into the wall (spacing 400–500 mm). Nail heads — countersunk and filled.

Marking — strictly by laser level. Neither the floor level nor visual parallelism to the ceiling guarantees horizontality on a long wall. Only the laser.

Joints of molding runs — sealed with acrylic sealant matching the finish paint color. After drying — sanding with fine grit. This ensures a "monolithic" look of the panel after painting: wall, molding, corner decor — one surface.

MLDPU-003U: corner that completes the frame

Stucco molding MLDPU-003U — is not a "decoration" in the everyday sense. It is the architectural finish of the frame system. A square decorative element that occupies the corner position of the frame and gives the entire structure a finished look.

Parameters of MLDPU-003U

Characteristic Value
Size 218 × 218 × 15 mm
Material Two-component polyurethane
Finish Factory priming
Decor Ornament with classic motifs
Application Frame corners, furniture facades, door and window openings, wall panels

218 × 218 mm is a square size that exactly overlaps the corner joint of a molding with a profile height of 35 mm: the element extends 90–95 mm beyond the joint on each side, creating a full decorative accent rather than just a corner plug.

15 mm thickness — the relief is slightly less than that of the molding profile (12 mm), but the ornamental surface of the element visually appears more voluminous due to detailing. MLDPU-003U does not protrude above the plane of the molding — it is coordinated with it.

Polyurethane as a material provides lightness with high surface detailing. A plaster analog of the same size would weigh significantly more and require special fastening solutions.Polyurethane corner elementis mounted with glue in five minutes — prime, apply glue, place, press. No dowels, no anchors.

How exactly MLDPU-003U works in INTPU-003

Imagine a frame made of MLD-003-MG: four runs, four corner joints. In each joint, there is a meeting point of horizontal and vertical runs. If the runs are cut at 45°, the joint looks neat but impersonal. If cut at 90° (on the principle of 'one enters the other'), one end remains open, requiring careful puttying.

MLDPU-003U solves this problem fundamentally: the molding runs are cut straight at 90°, laid end-to-end without bevels — and the corner decor is installed over the joint, covering it and turning a technical node into a decorative accent. This is simpler, faster, and more expressive than any method of processing a molding corner.

Additional effect: the ornamented surface of MLDPU-003U, after painting in a single color scheme with the wall and molding, creates a 'classic point' — a place where the gaze returns when examining the wall. A frame without corner accents is geometry. A frame with MLDPU-003U is architecture.

Placement options for corner elements

INTPU-003 allows several scenarios for placing MLDPU-003U in the frame system:

All four corners — a complete classic system. Each corner of the frame is decorated. Maximum expressiveness, maximum symmetry.

Only the top corners — a lighter solution. The bottom corners of the frame are overlapped by a baseboard or a lower horizontal run without accent. This is suitable for tall rooms with an emphasis on the upper wall zone.

Only in the central frames — corner decor is placed on the key panel (center of the wall, area with a mirror or painting), side panels remain without it. This is a hierarchy: the main frame — with accent, supporting ones — without.

Application in non-standard areas — MLDPU-003U can be used not only in wall panels, but also in the cornersof decorative door frame trims, cabinet furniture facades, arched slopes. This allows creating a unified decorative language in a space where the wall, doors, and furniture speak the same classic code.

Frame system INTPU-003: geometry of space

Molding frames on the wall are not just "glued profiles". This is a system that redistributes the visual energy of the space.

How frames change the perception of a wall

An empty wall is a neutral background. A good background, but still a background. With the appearance of molding frames, it becomes an active participant in the interior. The frames divide the plane into sections—and each section acquires its own "function" in the visual hierarchy of the space.

The central section is the main one. The side sections are supporting. If a mirror or painting hangs in the central section, the frame literally "assigns" it the main role. The remaining sections form an architectural context for this center.

Boiserie in the living roomwith the INTPU-003 system works exactly like this: molding and corner decor create a frame hierarchy that organizes the wall as a full-fledged architectural plane.

Rhythm as a tool of space

Repeating frames horizontally creates rhythm. This is not a metaphor—it is a literal rhythmic pattern: "frame—space—frame—space." Such rhythm both calms and structures the space simultaneously.

For long walls—corridors, halls, large living rooms—the rhythm of molding framesdecorative wall panelsvisually makes the space "measurable": the eye moves along the frames, counting sections. This removes the feeling of a monotonous tunnel that often occurs in long rooms with smooth walls.

Proportional rules for INTPU-003 frames

Frame height—70–80% of wall height. For a room height of 2.6 m: internal frame height—1.8–2.0 m. Frame width—from 0.5 to 0.8 m for a classic vertical panel. Width-to-height ratio—no wider than 1:1.5 for an expressive vertical accent.

The indentation from the ceiling and floor is the same, at least 15–18 cm. This creates an "air gap" between the frame system and horizontal surfaces. Without this gap, the panel feels "squeezed."

Corner elements MLDPU-003U (218 × 218 mm) with a molding width of 35 mm extend beyond the corner by 91.5 mm on each side. This protrusion must remain within the frame — meaning the minimum internal width of the frame must be at least 230 mm (with allowance).

Color as the final argument

Choosing a palette for INTPU-003 determines the final character of the interior. The same frame system in different shades creates a fundamentally different impression.

Monochrome solution: wall = molding = decor

The molding, MLDPU-003U, and the wall surface are painted in a single color. The relief is read only through light and shadow. This is the most modern and architecturally clean solution of all.

Greige (gray-beige) is a universal neutral. It equally well accepts both warm light from sconces and daylight from the window.Beige wall panel with stucco moldingin greige is the benchmark of contemporary classic: modern, warm, expensive.

Milky is the most "homey" shade. The creamy undertone makes a monochrome frame panel cozy. For a bedroom or private home, it's optimal.

Warm taupe is a gray-brown with an earthy undertone. Richer than greige, but still neutral. For spacious rooms with plenty of daylight — taupe retains depth where greige washes out.

Light gray (cool neutral) — for interiors with metallic accents and a cool color scheme.Moldings for paintingIn light gray, this is a strict, almost graphic wall architecture.

Subtle contrast: molding half a tone

Molding and MLDPU-003U half a tone darker or lighter than the wall — the frame becomes visible as a color contour. This is a "French" technique: the frame exists as an architectural element, rather than dissolving into monochrome.

The difference is no more than 15–20% in brightness. Greater contrast turns the frame from an architectural element into a decorative object — that's a different stylistic statement.

What doesn't work in INTPU-003

Bright molding color on a light wall is too much for a neoclassical idea. Contrasting white molding on a dark wall visually "glues" the frame to the surface instead of making it seem like part of the architecture.Molding in the wall color — always the right solution for INTPU-003.

Where to apply INTPU-003: zones and spaces

Living room — the main stage

Wall moldings in the living roomwith the INTPU-003 system provide three main scenarios:

Accent wall behind the sofa — one wall in a system of three to five frames, the central one with or without a mirror. Corner decor MLDPU-003U on all corners of the central frame and — optionally — on the upper corners of the side ones.

Full perimeter paneling — all living room walls in a unified INTPU-003 molding system. This is full-fledged boiserie: the space receives an architectural code that works on all four planes.

Fireplace zone — frames on the sides of the fireplace support it in an architectural frame. MLDPU-003U on the upper corners of the outer frames is the visual "crown" of the zone.

Bedroom: headboard made of frames

Wall panel for bedroomin the INTPU-003 system — one large frame above the bed with a width equal to the width of the headboard plus 20–30 cm on each side. The height of the frame is from the pillow level to 20–30 cm below the ceiling. MLDPU-003U on all four corners.

This is a headboard that doesn't need replacing when you change your bed. It's part of the wall — forever.

Hall and entryway: first character

The entryway forms the first impression.Decorative panel in the entrywaywith INTPU-003 moldings speaks to the guest in the language of architecture right in the entryway. One frame on the side wall of the corridor, a mirror inside it — and the entryway from a "transit lock" becomes an architectural vestibule.

For narrow entryways: one frame on one wall, a mirror or console inside. MLDPU-003U only on the top two corners — this is visually lighter, doesn't weigh down a small space.

Corridor: rhythm against monotony

A long corridor is the most challenging space for decorative wall finishing.Moldings on the wall in the corridorin the INTPU-003 system break up the endless side plane into sections. The rhythm of frames makes moving along the corridor "eventful": the gaze shifts from one frame to another, the space is perceived as a sequence, not a tunnel.

For the hallway: a uniform rhythm of frames with equal spacing. MLDPU-003U only on the upper corners — this lightens the system and does not overload the narrow space.

Study: architectural seriousness

Boiserie in the studywith the INTPU-003 system — this is a space that speaks of solidity. Molding frames on the study walls set an intellectual framework: here work people who understand quality and style. Classic framed panels behind the desk or around built-in shelves create the image of a study that is itself an argument.

Commercial spaces: systemic scale

INTPU-003 is effective in project-based spaces where a replicable system is needed. One MLD-003-MG profile, one MLDPU-003U corner element, one color scheme — and the entire facility (hotel, restaurant, boutique, showroom) receives a unified architectural language.

Decorative panels for a restaurantin the INTPU-003 system — this is a classic frame finish that works in combination with any furniture: from brasserie-style wooden tables to modern velvet and metal.Moldings for a design projectandwall panels for a hotelin this system is a good investment in a durable classic interior that will not become outdated in five years.

Stylistic combinations of INTPU-003

Neoclassicism

A frame system with corner polyurethane decor is a literal languageof neoclassicism in the interior. Vertical rectangular frames, symmetry, a light monochrome palette, ornamented nodal elements — this is exactly how walls look in classic neoclassical interiors. INTPU-003 reproduces this language with modern materials.

Modern classic

Contemporary classic is neoclassicism stripped of historical pomposity.Moldings in modern classicwork in the same geometry but in a cooler or neutral palette. MLDPU-003U in cool greige on a wall with the same neutral base is modern classic at its best.

Soft classic

In soft classic, the INTPU-003 system is applied on a smaller scale and with less density: frames slightly less frequent, moldings slightly thinner.Soft classic wall panels— it's a classic as a hint, as an atmospheric detail, not claiming to be an architectural dominant.

French classic in a calm version

Boiserie is a French word and a French tradition. Framed wall panels with a molding system and corner elements are a direct reference to the interiors of 17th–19th century mansions. Just without gold and without Baroque excess. INTPU-003 isdecorative wall panels in classic stylein a calm, modern interpretation.

Art Deco light

The strict geometry of MLD-003-MG frames + the square ornamental accent MLDPU-003U is an Art Deco structure: geometry and ornament in one system. In a cold metallic palette (taupe, light gray) INTPU-003 works asclassic wall decorin Art Deco style without heavy historical associations.

Polyurethane in wall panels: why it's the right material

A frequently asked question: why polyurethane, and not plaster, wood, or metal?

The answer is multi-layered.Polyurethane stucco for paintinghas fundamental advantages in the context of wall panel systems.

Weight. MLDPU-003U at a size of 218 × 218 mm weighs about 80–100 g. A plaster analogue of the same size weighs 600–800 g. The 6–8 times difference means fundamentally different installation requirements: polyurethane is glued, plaster requires mechanical fastening.

Workability. Polyurethane can be cut, sawed, and sanded with standard tools. Unlike plaster, it does not crumble when cut and does not produce dust that clogs pores and worsens paint adhesion.

Surface for painting. The factory priming of MLDPU-003U provides the same base for the finishing enamel as MLD-003-MG. The molding and corner decor are painted in one pass after installation — with a single system, a single coat.Decorative polyurethane moldingwith proper painting, it is indistinguishable from plaster in terms of visual result.

Durability. Polyurethane does not crumble, does not absorb moisture, and does not react to temperature fluctuations within a living space. For wall panels created "forever," this is an important parameter.

FAQ: popular questions about INTPU-003

How is INTPU-003 fundamentally different from INTPU-002?
In INTPU-002, only the MLD-003-MG molding is on the wall — pure frame geometry. In INTPU-003, the angular decorative element MLDPU-003U is added to the molding, which completes the corners of the frame and gives the entire system a finished classical character. This is the difference between geometry and architecture.

Do I need to paint the molding and corner decor separately?
No. Both elements — MLD-003-MG and MLDPU-003U — have factory priming and are painted in one pass together with the wall. Simply apply an insulating primer over the entire surface, including the molding and decor, and then a finish enamel in two coats.Molding in the wall colorafter drying, it looks like a single architectural surface.

Can MLDPU-003U be used not on wall panels?
Yes. The corner element is used on furniture facades, door and window openings, niches, arched slopes. This allows the decorative code of INTPU-003 to be transferred to other surfaces of the space and create a unified stylistic language.

How many MLDPU-003U corner elements are needed per frame?
Per frame — four elements (one for each corner). If you want to lighten the system — two elements only on the top corners. For three frames on the wall with full corner decor — 12 pieces of MLDPU-003U.

Is the INTPU-003 system suitable for commercial use?
Yes. MLD-003-MG and MLDPU-003U are serial items that are available in the required quantity.Wall panels for restaurants and hotelsin the INTPU-003 system are implemented according to a standard scheme with a repeatable result.

Where to buy elements for INTPU-003?
Buy MLD-003-MG molding— in the moldings section of the STAVROS catalog.Stucco molding MLDPU-003U— in the decor section for moldings. Allrange of polyurethane products — in the corresponding section of the website.

Is special wall preparation needed before installation?
The wall must be level (tolerance no more than 3 mm/m), clean, and degreased. Priming the wall surface before installing the molding improves the adhesion of the mounting adhesive. No special materials are required — only standard preparation for the final finish.
