Dimensions and Options
Description
A wide primed MDF molding measuring 35 × 12 mm features a pronounced multi-tiered profile: a large rounded section combines with a smooth concave line and thin embossed beads. This geometry creates noticeable light and shadow and makes the contour visually rich.
The molding is suitable for large wall frames and decorative panels where a distinctive, self-contained profile is needed. It can be used as the main contour of a composition, complemented by narrower moldings inside the frame.
We add a rigid packaging frame (390 RUB) to the order cost for safe transportation.

Primed MDF Molding MLD-003-MG for Wall Panels, Large Frames and Architectural Interiors
MLD-003-MG is a primed MDF molding designed for wall panels, picture-frame molding, accent walls, decorative millwork, furniture, built-ins, and layered architectural compositions where the main frame needs a clearly defined visual presence.
The profile measures 1.38 × 0.47 in (35 × 12 mm) and is supplied in a 102.36 in (2600 mm) length. Among the MLD-MG linear profiles, this larger cross-section gives MLD-003-MG a distinct design role: it can establish the primary or outer boundary of a decorative wall panel rather than functioning only as a fine secondary line.
The 35 mm face creates a confident frame around the wall field. The 12 mm projection adds physical depth, allowing light and shadow to define the molding even when the profile and the surrounding wall are finished in the same color.
MLD-003-MG can be used for:
-
large picture-frame molding layouts;
-
decorative wall panels;
-
accent walls;
-
primary outer borders in layered molding systems;
-
tall vertical wall frames;
-
multi-level wall compositions;
-
furniture and cabinetry;
-
built-in millwork;
-
decorative interior doors;
-
coordinated STAVROS wall-decor systems.
The molding is made from MDF and supplied in the Prestige Primed finish, providing a prepared surface for the project's final painted treatment.
Why Choose a 35 × 12 mm MDF Molding?
Not all molding profiles should perform the same job.
A very narrow profile is useful for fine detailing. A medium molding can define a smaller frame or secondary border. A 35 mm MDF molding can establish the main architectural line of the composition.
That distinction matters on larger walls.
MLD-003-MG has a visible width of approximately 1.38 inches, making it substantially more pronounced than the 10 mm, 15 mm, or 22 mm profiles elsewhere in the STAVROS MLD-MG range.
This additional width can be useful when:
-
a large wall frame needs to remain visually clear from across the room;
-
the molding is the main perimeter of an applied wall panel;
-
several molding sizes are being used together;
-
the wall has enough scale to support a stronger architectural line;
-
the design calls for defined panel geometry rather than a delicate decorative outline.
Its 12 mm projection also creates a more substantial transition between the wall surface and the face of the molding.
The result is a profile that can organize the entire composition rather than simply decorate its edge.
MDF Wall Molding for Large Picture-Frame Panels
One of the strongest applications for MLD-003-MG is picture frame wall molding on medium and large wall surfaces.
Picture-frame molding uses linear profiles to create rectangular or square architectural fields directly on the wall. The wall itself remains the field inside the frame, while the molding establishes the perimeter.
Because MLD-003-MG is 35 mm wide, it can give these frames more visual authority than a narrow trim profile.
It can be used for:
-
one oversized panel behind a bed;
-
a large central frame behind a sofa;
-
tall wall panels in a dining room;
-
repeated frames across a formal hallway;
-
symmetrical wall divisions;
-
large panels surrounding artwork or mirrors;
-
feature-wall compositions;
-
traditional and neoclassical wall layouts.
The profile does not need elaborate ornament to make an impact.
Its scale, projection, and relationship to the surrounding wall can provide the architectural effect.
A Primary Profile for Panel Molding on Walls
For many projects, MLD-003-MG can function as the main panel molding.
That means the profile creates the most important visible boundary in the composition.
This is especially useful when the wall treatment should have clear hierarchy.
Instead of every decorative line having similar weight, the design can use:
large primary frame → secondary molding → fine inner detail
MLD-003-MG is well suited to the primary role.
Its 35 mm face establishes the outer frame and gives the decorative panel a clear relationship to the surrounding wall.
A narrower molding can then be added inside if the design needs more detail.
This approach creates architectural depth through proportion rather than through unnecessary ornament.
MLD-003-MG as the Outer Contour in a Layered Wall System
MLD-003-MG is particularly effective in layered wall molding compositions.
A layered panel uses two or more molding profiles to create several levels of framing.
For example:
MLD-003-MG can establish the broad outer contour.
A medium profile such as MLD-002-MG can create the second frame.
A finer profile such as MLD-001-MG can form the innermost line.
The resulting system has a clear visual hierarchy.
From across the room, the 35 mm outer molding defines the overall scale of the panel. As the viewer moves closer, the smaller profiles introduce additional detail.
This is more effective than selecting several moldings with nearly identical dimensions.
Each profile has a specific architectural role.
Three Levels of MDF Molding
The MLD-MG series makes it possible to build a molding composition using deliberately different profile scales.
For example:
MLD-001-MG — 10 × 6 mm
Fine inner contour and small-scale detailing.
MLD-002-MG — 22 × 11 mm
Intermediate frame and medium architectural line.
MLD-003-MG — 35 × 12 mm
Primary or outer architectural contour.
This progression gives designers more control over visual hierarchy.
Rather than simply placing multiple moldings next to one another, each size can be assigned a different task.
MLD-003-MG provides the strongest visual boundary of the three.
This makes it particularly valuable for larger wall panels and multi-level decorative compositions.
Panel Molding Without Covering the Entire Wall
A decorative paneled wall does not always require solid wall panels.
Panel molding for walls can be applied directly to the existing surface to create the appearance and proportions of architectural paneling.
MLD-003-MG establishes the border.
The existing wall surface becomes the field inside that border.
This approach can be used with:
-
painted drywall;
-
plastered walls;
-
selected decorative finishes;
-
wallpaper inside framed fields;
-
other compatible interior wall treatments.
The molding creates physical relief while leaving much of the existing wall surface visible.
This can make an applied molding system visually lighter than full-height panel construction while still giving the room clear architectural organization.
A Strong Choice for Monochromatic Walls
One of the most effective ways to use MDF wall molding is to paint the molding and wall in the same color.
With a very fine molding, this can create an extremely subtle result.
MLD-003-MG behaves differently.
Its 35 mm width and 12 mm projection create enough physical depth that the frame can remain clearly visible through light and shadow even without color contrast.
This makes monochromatic finishing particularly interesting.
The surface can remain visually unified while the molding introduces architecture.
Depending on lighting, the profile can produce:
-
a highlight along one edge;
-
a soft shadow along the opposite side;
-
a stronger shadow under directional lighting;
-
a changing appearance as daylight moves through the room.
The wall gains structure without requiring multiple paint colors.
Contrasting Decorative Wall Molding
A contrasting finish produces a very different result.
Because MLD-003-MG has a comparatively broad 35 mm face, a contrasting color can make the profile a prominent graphic element.
This may work well where the molding layout itself is intended to become a focal feature.
For example:
-
dark molding on a light wall;
-
light molding on a dark wall;
-
a tonal variation of the wall color;
-
a profile coordinated with surrounding cabinetry or doors.
The stronger the contrast, the more carefully the entire wall geometry should be planned.
Several large contrasting frames can dominate a room much more strongly than one short sample suggests.
Evaluate the complete elevation before deciding on the final color relationship.
MDF Molding for Accent Walls
MLD-003-MG is especially relevant for an accent wall molding project where the wall needs strong architectural organization.
A large central panel behind a bed can establish the visual focus of a bedroom.
In a living room, the profile can organize the wall behind a sofa, console, or media composition.
In a dining room, repeated panels can establish rhythm along a long wall.
In an entry or hallway, tall frames can emphasize vertical proportion.
The key difference from a narrow molding is visual weight.
MLD-003-MG has enough presence to make the wall geometry clear without relying on numerous small decorative elements.
That can produce a cleaner and more architectural result.
Decorative Wall Molding for Traditional Interiors
A broader profile is naturally useful in traditional and neoclassical compositions.
MLD-003-MG can create the main structural frame around more elaborate decorative elements.
This is particularly useful when polyurethane corner ornaments, onlays, or other relief components are incorporated into the design.
The linear MDF molding provides the geometry.
The ornamental elements create focal detail.
These two roles should remain distinct.
A strong frame prevents the decorative elements from appearing isolated on the wall. At the same time, the molding itself can remain relatively restrained so that it does not compete with the ornament.
Part of STAVROS Decorative Wall Systems
MLD-003-MG is not only an individual MDF molding. It also appears as a structural profile within STAVROS decorative wall systems.
Its 35 × 12 mm geometry is used as the larger framing element in multi-profile compositions.
This is an important distinction for designers who want to build a complete wall rather than select individual decorative pieces independently.
The molding can establish the primary geometry while compatible decorative elements create ornamental focal points.
This approach allows a wall to be planned as a coordinated system:
linear frame → secondary profile → ornamental accent → wall field
rather than as a collection of unrelated products.
Explore the STAVROS wall decor collection for complete composition ideas.
MLD-003-MG and Decorative Elements for the 003 Series
The STAVROS catalog also includes decorative components associated with the 003 molding family.
These elements make it possible to develop MLD-003-MG beyond a simple rectangular mitered frame.
A restrained project may use only the straight MDF molding.
A more elaborate composition can introduce decorative corners or other coordinated accents from the 003 family.
This can be useful for:
-
neoclassical wall panels;
-
formal dining rooms;
-
feature walls;
-
decorative pilaster-style compositions;
-
framed mirrors;
-
traditional furniture;
-
architectural wall details.
Before combining components, compare their drawings, dimensions, and intended relationship to the 003 profile.
For additional options, explore STAVROS molding decor.
Use MLD-003-MG With Narrower Moldings
One of the most useful design strategies is to combine MLD-003-MG with a profile of clearly different scale.
For example, a wide outer MLD-003-MG frame can contain a much finer inner frame made with MLD-001-MG.
The visual contrast between the two profiles creates hierarchy.
The outer molding establishes the architecture.
The inner molding adds refinement.
Alternatively, MLD-002-MG can be positioned between them to produce a three-level system.
The important point is not to add more profiles simply to make the wall more decorative.
Each additional molding should have a clear purpose.
Decorative MDF Molding for Furniture and Built-Ins
Although MLD-003-MG has strong wall applications, its profile can also be considered for larger furniture and millwork surfaces where a 35 mm molding is proportionally appropriate.
Possible applications include:
-
large cabinet doors;
-
wardrobe fronts;
-
built-in cabinetry;
-
decorative interior doors;
-
large furniture panels;
-
wall-integrated storage;
-
custom painted millwork.
At furniture scale, however, 35 mm is a substantial width.
This should be considered carefully.
A molding that feels balanced on a 10-foot wall can become visually dominant on a narrow cabinet door.
Before specifying MLD-003-MG for furniture, compare the 35 mm face against the actual dimensions of the front or panel.
Check Furniture Hardware Before Finalizing the Frame
A decorative frame on cabinetry cannot interfere with the function of the furniture.
Check:
-
hinge positions;
-
pulls and handles;
-
drawer relationships;
-
neighboring cabinet doors;
-
door edges;
-
reveal lines;
-
opening clearances.
A large molding needs more space around these components than a very fine profile.
For repeated cabinetry, create one accurate layout and confirm all functional clearances before applying the same dimensions to every front.
Plan the Wall Before Choosing the Frame Dimensions
The molding should respond to the architecture of the room.
Begin by measuring the complete wall.
Record:
-
wall width;
-
ceiling height;
-
baseboard dimensions;
-
ceiling molding or crown;
-
doors;
-
windows;
-
casing;
-
outlets;
-
switches;
-
built-ins;
-
permanent fixtures;
-
major furniture.
Then decide which elements should control the wall composition.
A bed may establish the centerline of a bedroom wall.
A sofa or fireplace may control a living-room wall.
A dining table may influence the center of a dining-room panel layout.
A door or window may divide the available wall into unequal sections.
The decorative molding should resolve those conditions rather than ignore them.
Large Molding Does Not Mean Every Frame Should Be Large
MLD-003-MG is a wider profile, but that does not mean every frame must occupy the entire wall.
The correct scale depends on the balance between:
-
molding width;
-
panel dimensions;
-
spacing;
-
room size;
-
number of panels.
A 35 mm molding around one large frame may feel restrained.
The same profile repeated around many small rectangles may create a dense and highly decorative wall.
This is why profile size and panel density should be considered together.
Consistent Spacing Creates Order
Perfectly equal panel widths are not always necessary.
Real interiors contain doors, windows, furniture, and uneven wall sections.
In those cases, consistent spacing can be more important than identical frame dimensions.
Establish repeatable relationships such as:
-
equal distances between adjacent panels;
-
consistent clearance above the baseboard;
-
consistent clearance below ceiling trim;
-
repeated distances from doors and windows;
-
aligned top and bottom edges.
This creates visual rhythm even when individual panels have different widths.
A larger profile like MLD-003-MG makes inconsistent spacing more obvious, so layout accuracy becomes especially important.
Mock Up the 35 mm Width Before Ordering
One of the easiest ways to avoid selecting the wrong scale is to test it directly on the wall.
MLD-003-MG is approximately 1.38 inches / 35 mm wide.
Use painter's tape or another removable marking method to reproduce approximately that width around part of the proposed frame.
Do not mark only the centerline.
Stand at the normal viewing distance and evaluate:
-
how wide the molding appears;
-
how much wall remains inside the frame;
-
how much space remains between neighboring frames;
-
how the profile relates to door casing;
-
whether the molding feels proportional to the furniture.
This simple test can reveal whether a 35 mm primary molding is right for the room or whether a narrower option would be more appropriate.
How Much MLD-003-MG Do You Need?
Start with the perimeter of every frame.
For a rectangular wall frame:
Required molding = 2 × width + 2 × height
Suppose one large frame measures:
48 × 72 in
The perimeter is:
48 + 72 + 48 + 72 = 240 linear inches
Two identical frames require:
240 × 2 = 480 linear inches
Each MLD-003-MG molding is 102.36 in long.
A simple total-length calculation gives:
480 ÷ 102.36 = approximately 4.69 stock lengths
The mathematical minimum is therefore five lengths.
But this number should not be used as the final order quantity without checking the cut plan.
Why a Cut List Matters More Than the Linear-Foot Total
A 102.36-inch stock molding cannot always be divided efficiently into the exact sides required by the frames.
In the example above, each frame needs two 72-inch sections.
A 102.36-inch molding can provide only one 72-inch piece.
The remaining material is approximately 30.36 inches, which cannot produce one of the required 48-inch horizontal pieces.
This changes the physical quantity required.
The total number of linear inches may suggest one order quantity, while the actual arrangement of cuts requires more stock.
For this reason, prepare a cut list before ordering.
How to Build a Molding Cut List
List every finished piece individually.
Record:
-
length;
-
quantity;
-
vertical or horizontal orientation;
-
frame number;
-
stock length assigned to the cut.
Begin with the longest sections.
Then determine which shorter pieces can be produced from the remaining material.
Also consider reasonable allowances for:
-
saw kerf;
-
miter cuts;
-
test pieces;
-
imperfect ends;
-
installation adjustment.
This is particularly important for large wall frames because the long vertical sections may determine the stock quantity before total linear footage does.
Planning Mitered Corners
Rectangular picture-frame molding commonly uses mitered corners.
Before cutting, determine exactly what the dimensions in the drawing represent.
They might be:
-
outside dimensions;
-
inside clear opening;
-
molding centerline.
These dimensions are not interchangeable.
With a 35 mm molding, the difference between the outside and inside frame dimensions is visually significant.
Use one measurement system throughout the project and verify it with a test frame or test corner before cutting the full order.
MLD-003-MG vs. MLD-001-MG
The difference is substantial.
MLD-001-MG
10 × 6 mm / 0.39 × 0.24 in
MLD-003-MG
35 × 12 mm / 1.38 × 0.47 in
MLD-001-MG is a fine-detail molding.
MLD-003-MG is a much stronger architectural profile.
For a layered wall, these two products can complement rather than compete with each other.
MLD-003-MG can form the main outer frame.
MLD-001-MG can create a fine inner line.
This provides much clearer hierarchy than using two profiles of almost identical scale.
MLD-003-MG vs. MLD-002-MG
MLD-002-MG measures 22 × 11 mm.
MLD-003-MG measures 35 × 12 mm.
The difference in projection is modest, but the visible face becomes considerably wider.
This means the 003 profile has substantially more visual presence.
A useful hierarchy is:
MLD-002-MG — medium / intermediate architectural frame
MLD-003-MG — broad primary / outer frame
In a two-level composition, these profiles can work together rather than being treated as alternative names for essentially the same product.
MLD-003-MG vs. MLD-004-MG
MLD-004-MG measures 15 × 8 mm.
Compared with it, MLD-003-MG has more than twice the visible face width.
That makes their design roles very different.
MLD-004-MG works well for medium-scale frames and secondary borders.
MLD-003-MG is better suited where the main contour itself needs architectural weight.
Choosing between them should therefore start with the scale of the intended frame, not simply with personal preference for one profile photograph.
MDF MLD-003-MG or Polyurethane MLDPU-003?
STAVROS also offers the 003 profile family in polyurethane.
This creates a choice between related profile geometry in different materials.
MLD-003-MG is the primed MDF option.
MLDPU-003 is the polyurethane option.
Select the material according to:
-
project specification;
-
substrate;
-
installation environment;
-
finishing system;
-
adjoining decorative components;
-
overall material strategy.
Do not treat different materials as automatically interchangeable simply because their visible profiles are related.
Primed MDF for Painted Architectural Details
MLD-003-MG is supplied in the Prestige Primed finish.
This makes it particularly relevant for painted wall systems where the molding will receive the final project color after installation.
The primer provides the starting surface, but the complete finish still depends on installation quality.
Before final coating, inspect:
-
mitered joints;
-
fixing points;
-
cut areas;
-
transitions between molding lengths.
Complete the preparation required by the project and follow the selected coating manufacturer's instructions.
When the final finish is uniform, the molding and wall can read as one integrated architectural surface.
Is MLD-003-MG Suitable for Picture Frame Wall Molding?
Yes, particularly when the wall frame requires a broader and more visually pronounced profile.
The 35 × 12 mm cross-section makes MLD-003-MG especially relevant for larger panels and primary frame lines.
For very small decorative frames or furniture-scale details, compare it with narrower MLD-MG profiles before finalizing the design.
Is MLD-003-MG a Panel Molding?
It can be used as panel molding for walls when the intended panel is created by applying a linear decorative border to the wall surface.
The molding defines the perimeter while the existing wall remains the field inside the panel.
MLD-003-MG is particularly suitable where this perimeter needs substantial visual definition.
Is MLD-003-MG a Crown Molding?
No.
MLD-003-MG is a linear decorative molding intended for wall frames, panels, furniture, doors, and related interior millwork.
It should not be confused with a purpose-designed crown molding installed at the wall-to-ceiling junction or with a baseboard installed at floor level.
Using precise product terminology keeps both the project specification and product search intent clear.
Why Choose MLD-003-MG?
Choose MLD-003-MG when the project needs a primed MDF molding with enough scale to establish the principal architectural frame.
Its 35 × 12 mm / 1.38 × 0.47 in profile makes it especially useful for:
-
large MDF wall molding frames;
-
picture-frame molding;
-
applied wall panels;
-
architectural accent walls;
-
broad outer contours;
-
layered molding compositions;
-
multi-profile STAVROS wall systems;
-
larger furniture and millwork applications;
-
designs combined with coordinated decorative elements.
The 2600 mm / 102.36 in stock length also provides useful reach for tall vertical panels and large frame layouts.
Before ordering, decide exactly what job the profile will perform.
If it is the primary frame, establish its dimensions first and position finer molding inside it.
If it is part of a multi-level system, compare the widths of every profile before determining the spacing.
Then build a complete cut list rather than estimating only total linear footage.
MLD-003-MG is the profile to consider when a fine decorative line is no longer enough. Its 35 mm face gives wall panels, picture-frame molding, furniture, and layered interiors a clear outer boundary and stronger architectural presence.
