On the facade of a tall cabinet, the designer drew a vertical fluted strip 100 mm wide. The specification doesn't have an article number yet, so the furniture maker suggests two options: install a ready-made fluted molding MLD-049, 100 mm wide, or assemble a similar vertical rhythm from individual wooden slats RK-001.
Visually, both solutions can work as vertical decor, but structurally they are different products. MLD-049 is a single ready-made fluted piece 100×8 mm, where the width and surface pattern are already set by the manufacturer. RK-001 is a separate rectangular slat, and if several such slats are used to assemble a decorative strip, the width of the composition is determined by the number of slats, their cross-section, and the gaps between them.
Therefore, the question before ordering is not "which is prettier" or "which is cheaper per plank." First, you need to understand what exactly is shown in the working sketch: one physical fluted piece 100 mm wide or a set of independent verticals with visible pauses.
If the project requires a solid strip of fixed width, the first candidate becomes Wooden Molding MLD-049. If the designer needs a controlled step of individual elements, then the composition needs to be designed based on wooden slat RK-001.
Fluted wooden molding MLD-049 100×8 mm: what the buyer gets ready-made
MLD-049 is a wide fluted profile. Its base dimensions are the same in width and thickness for all materials:
A = 100 mm
C = 8 mm
The length and material change.
| Material | Dimension A×C×L | Sanding | Price at the time of check |
|---|---|---|---|
| MDF | 100×8×2600 mm | Prestige | 1 740 ₽ |
| Beech | 100×8×2400 mm | Prestige | 3 330 ₽ |
| Oak | 100×8×2400 mm | Prestige | 4 500 ₽ |
For MDF, the card shows the preparation "Under enamel." All three versions were in stock in Saint Petersburg at the time of checking.
The main feature of MLD-049 for our task is that the fluting is already formed within a single part. The buyer does not need to separately specify the width of each vertical slat, the spacing between slats, the number of repeats, the uniformity of gaps, or the total width of the assembled composition.
If a designer wrote "fluted strip 100 mm" and means one physical part, MLD-049 allows fixing this geometry directly in the product specification.
Working line:
MLD-049 / 100×8×2400 mm / beech / Prestige / 1 solid decorative strip on the facade.
This is much more unambiguous than the wording:
"fluting made of wooden slats, width about 100 mm."
Wooden batten RK-001: why it is not a narrow version of MLD-049
RK-001 is a different product and a different decor principle.
The current listing offers seven cross-sections, each 2400 mm long:
| Section RK-001 | Beech | Oak |
|---|---|---|
| 15×5 mm | 490 ₽ | 680 ₽ |
| 24×5 mm | 840 ₽ | 1 150 ₽ |
| 40×5 mm | 1 130 ₽ | 1 620 ₽ |
| 70×7 mm | 2 310 ₽ | 3 290 ₽ |
| 90×10 mm | 3 350 ₽ | 4 850 ₽ |
| 60×23 mm | 4 420 ₽ | 6 680 ₽ |
| 80×23 mm | 5 720 ₽ | 8 600 ₽ |
RK-001 is a separate rectangular batten.
If a designer wants several vertical elements, the total width of the composition is calculated as follows:
total width = sum of widths of all battens + sum of all gaps.
That is why five RK-001 cannot automatically be equated to one MLD-049. The number of battens by itself says nothing about the width of the result.
Our factory also produces:
Can you assemble a decorative strip exactly 100 mm wide from RK-001?
Yes, mathematically you can design a batten composition with a total width of 100 mm. But it still will not become MLD-049.
For example, let's take five RK-001 battens with a width of 15 mm.
Wood:
5 × 15 = 75 mm.
To get a total strip of 100 mm, four gaps must remain:
100 − 75 = 25 mm.
If the gaps are made equal:
25 / 4 = 6.25 mm.
The design scheme is:
15 mm batten + 6.25 mm gap + 15 mm batten + 6.25 mm gap + 15 mm batten + 6.25 mm gap + 15 mm batten + 6.25 mm gap + 15 mm batten = 100 mm.
But this is the author's calculation of the composition, not a characteristic of RK-001 and not an imitation of the factory fluting of MLD-049.
In this scheme, there are five separate physical parts and four open gaps.
MLD-049 has one solid part 100 mm wide with an already formed fluted surface.
Results may be similar in overall band, but differ in relief, shadows, assembly, and number of individual elements.

Buy a wooden molding or assemble a fluted band: first, read the working sketch
There are two fundamentally different patterns.
Option A — one solid fluted surface
The drawing shows one band with fixed outer boundaries. The width is set as 100 mm. The vertical rhythm is inside the part itself.
Then it makes sense to consider MLD-049.
Option B — separate verticals
The drawing shows several independent protruding elements. Between them there is facade background. The designer sets the width and spacing separately.
Then it is more rational to look at RK-001.
If it is impossible to understand from the sketch which of the two options was intended, you cannot buy a "similar" product at the furniture maker's discretion. You need to request a working fragment of the facade or at least a clarification:
Should the fluting be a single piece or a set of separate slats?
It is this question that determines the choice of product.
Furniture molding MLD-049: when the width of 100 mm must be fixed
MLD-049 is especially convenient where 100 mm is not a reference point, but part of the furniture's geometry.
For example:
- each facade must have one strip exactly 100 mm wide;
- several doors must repeat the same decorative vertical line;
- the fluting must be located within one physical element;
- the designer has already tied the strip to the facade axis;
- equal free margins are calculated on the left and right of it;
- The same geometry must be repeated on serial furniture.
Let's imagine a facade 500 mm wide, where MLD-049 is placed in the center.
Free field:
500 − 100 = 400 mm.
When centering:
400 / 2 = 200 mm.
We get 200 mm margins on each side.
If instead of MLD-049 you start assembling a slat composition, its actual width must be confirmed separately. Any change in the number of slats or gaps changes these 200 mm.
Wooden slats for furniture: when the fixed strip MLD-049 limits the project
MLD-049 does not need to be sold as the universally best option.
RK-001 is more rational if the designer wants to control the rhythm itself: make wide gaps, change the pitch, increase the distance between verticals toward the edge, use two, three, five or more independent slats, leave visible facade material between slats, spread elements across a large surface, or form an asymmetric composition.
For MLD-049, the total width of the part is fixed at 100 mm.
For RK-001, the composition can be 100, 160, 240, or 400 mm — if that exact pattern is designed.
Therefore, when a request comes in for "I want slats on the facade," you should not automatically replace them with a wide molding just to simplify installation.
MLD-049 made of MDF 100×8×2600 mm: when a solid strip for enamel is convenient
The MDF version has a length of 2600 mm. This is 200 mm longer than the beech and oak options.
The card shows the "Under enamel" preparation for it.
This option makes sense to consider if the furniture receives an opaque finish, the natural texture of the solid wood is not part of the design, a single solid fluted surface is needed, and the 2600 mm length helps cover a tall element without a joint.
For example, a facade 2500 mm high.
One MLD-049 made of MDF with a length of 2600 mm has sufficient initial length for one solid piece of 2500 mm before accounting for technological edge processing.
And the solid wood version of 2400 mm no longer provides one solid piece of 2500 mm.
This does not mean that MDF is automatically better. It means that the material also changes the initial length, and it needs to be considered in a specific project.
Beech MLD-049 100×8×2400 mm: when a solid piece of solid wood is needed
The beech MLD-049 has dimensions of 100×8×2400 mm.
Here the customer gets the same principle of a ready-made fluted strip, but from solid beech: fixed width of 100 mm, thickness of 8 mm, factory relief, one physical part, and length of 2400 mm.
If the facade is below 2400 mm, one original plank can potentially yield one solid vertical strip of the required length after calculating the finished piece.
If the facade is higher, the issue of a joint or another solution needs to be designed separately.
You cannot automatically transfer the advantage of MDF 2600 to beech: the product length differs.
Oak fluted MLD-049: when the wood texture becomes part of the pattern
Oak MLD-049 also has dimensions of 100×8×2400 mm.
The current price is 4,500 ₽.
It makes sense to consider it when the project uses not only the relief but also the visible texture of natural oak.
But the final finish cannot be assigned by a single article. If a specific tint, oil, varnish, or another system is required, it is agreed upon separately.
The main point here is different: oak MLD-049 remains a solid fluted profile, not a set of oak RK-001.
Four identical facades: how many MLD-049 are needed for a repeating strip
Let's imagine four facades, each requiring one vertical fluted strip 2200 mm long.
For beech or oak, the initial length is 2400 mm.
From one plank, you can get one 2200 mm piece.
Remainder in length before accounting for finishing:
2400 − 2200 = 200 mm.
For four facades:
4 × MLD-049.
Cost:
Beech
4 × 3 330 = 13 320 ₽.
Oak
4 × 4 500 = 18 000 ₽.
MDF (740–760 kg/m³, emission class E1/E0) provides ideal geometry, uniformity, and better base for enamel: high adhesion, smooth surface, absence of knots and cracks.
If the same 2200 mm pieces are cut from 2600:
4 × 1 740 = 6 960 ₽.
Gross remainder on each MDF plank before finishing:
2600 − 2200 = 400 mm.
This calculation shows the price of finished fluted profiles specifically. It does not include finishing, installation, or other work.
The same strip from RK-001: why you should compare the whole composition, not just one slat
Let's take this only as an example, not a manufacturer's recommendation.
Suppose the designer decided to make a composition 100 mm wide on each facade from five RK-001 15×5 mm with four gaps of 6.25 mm each.
For one facade, 5 slats are needed.
For four:
5 × 4 = 20 slats.
If the length of each vertical is 2200 mm, one original RK-001 2400 mm yields one such part.
Product cost:
Beech
20 × 490 = 9 800 ₽.
Oak
20 × 680 = 13 600 ₽.
At first glance, the slat composition is cheaper than four MLD-049 from the same solid wood.
But this is not proof that RK-001 is more advantageous.
For the slat scheme, there are twenty separate pieces instead of four, four gaps on each facade, control of uniform spacing, separate marking, more repetitive installation operations, separate finishing of each slat, and a different shadow pattern.
Therefore, a correct estimate compares the finished decorative system, not just the sum of product prices.
What to compare in the estimate besides the price of one slat
For MLD-049, the number of finished profiles, the length of each, material, finishing, cutting, and installation of one solid part are calculated.
For RK-001, the selected cross-section, number of slats, number of gaps, pitch, length of each slat, number of installation operations, finish, method of maintaining equal pitch, and possible additional elements are calculated.
If the contractor writes:
"slats are cheaper than molding,"
you need to request two full estimates up to the finished facade.
Only then does the comparison become commercially useful.
Order MLD-049 or RK-001: why you need a full-scale facade fragment
In a render, both solutions may look like a "vertical fluted strip."
In reality, they differ in depth, shadow frequency, relief size, visible gaps, the ratio of wood to facade background, visual density, and side profile.
Therefore, before a large batch, it is reasonable to check a fragment at a 1:1 scale.
For MLD-049, it is enough to apply the actual profile to the facade or a full-size sample.
For RK-001, it is useful to assemble a small test section from the selected slats with real gaps.
Compare them side by side, under the lighting where the furniture will be placed.
A wide wooden molding of 100 mm should not be called a "slat" in the specification.
This is an important purchasing mistake.
Bad:
decorative slat 100 mm.
Such an entry can be understood in different ways, especially when STAVROS has a separate category for real wooden battens.
For MLD-049, it is correct:
MLD-049 / fluted wooden molding / 100×8×2400 mm / beech.
For MDF:
MLD-049 / fluted molding / 100×8×2600 mm / MDF / Prestige / For enamel.
For RK-001:
RK-001 / slat / 15×5×2400 mm / beech / quantity ___ pcs.
This way, two different products are not mixed in the same terminology.
How to place an order for MLD-049 without ambiguity
Ready form:
Item number: MLD-049
Purpose: fluted decorative strip on the facade
Width: 100 mm
Thickness: 8 mm
Material: MDF / beech / oak
Length: 2600 or 2400 mm depending on material
Quantity: ___
Fronts: F1–F___
Finish length of each part: ___ mm
Finish: ___
If the project requires a different system, a separate line RK-001 is added nearby, rather than replacing the name MLD-049 with "slats".
For a general selection, you can buy wooden molding for furniture via the molding catalog.
When it is actually better to buy wooden slats RK-001 instead of MLD-049
The solution can be reduced to a simple tree.
Need one solid fluted piece exactly 100 mm wide?
→ Consider MLD-049.
Need separate elements and visible gaps?
→ Consider RK-001.
Should the spacing between verticals vary?
→ RK-001 gives more freedom.
Should all facades repeat one ready-made fluted geometry?
→ MLD-049 is easier to fix in the specification.
Need to stretch the decorative rhythm over a large width?
→ Individual RK-001 units may be more logical.
Is it impossible to understand the construction from the sketch?
→ Do not order any option until the working scheme is clarified.
If you need exactly a catalog of slats, you can go to the section Wooden planks.
Identical 100 mm can produce a completely different pattern from RK-001
Even if the designer and the furniture maker have agreed that the overall slat zone should occupy exactly 100 mm, this is still not enough to order RK-001.
Several different schemes can be built.
Three slats 24 mm
Total wood:
3 × 24 = 72 mm.
For two gaps remains:
100 − 72 = 28 mm.
With equal spacing:
28 / 2 = 14 mm.
We get three relatively wide slats with two noticeable pauses.
Two slats 40 mm
Total wood:
2 × 40 = 80 mm.
One gap:
100 − 80 = 20 mm.
This is a completely different pattern: two large verticals and one wide gap between them.
Five slats 15 mm
As calculated above:
5 × 15 = 75 mm, and four gaps give 6.25 mm each.
All three compositions occupy the same 100 mm, but visually they have nothing in common.
Therefore, in the RK-001 specification, you cannot write only:
a slat insert of 100 mm.
Need to fix the minimum:
RK-001 / section ___ / quantity per facade ___ / pitch ___ mm / total composition width 100 mm.
MLD-049 does not have this problem: its own width is already 100 mm, and within this physical part the fluting is set by the manufacturer.
A tall facade of 2500 mm: the length of MLD-049 and RK-001 changes the solution
There is another edge case that cannot be seen from a single frontal render.
Suppose the decorative vertical should run from the bottom to the top of a facade 2500 mm high without a horizontal joint.
MLD-049 made of MDF has an initial length of 2600 mm, so along the length one plank is suitable for one solid part of 2500 mm before accounting for finishing.
Beech and oak MLD-049 have a length of 2400 mm. They are already shorter than the required vertical by:
2500 − 2400 = 100 mm.
RK-001 of all current cross-sections also has a length of 2400 mm. This means that the slat version made from RK-001 also does not provide solid 2500-millimeter verticals from one standard plank.
In such a project, the choice may change not due to price or beauty, but due to the requirement for continuity.
If the designer allows a joint, it must be shown on the drawing. If a joint is prohibited, one should look for a product configuration that physically covers the height, or change the project design.
You cannot simply write:
RK-001 is longer, we'll extend it on site.
This is already a different visual and installation solution.
Therefore, for tall cabinets, it is useful to add not only the width of the decorative strip, but also the finished length of each vertical part in the request.
When it is better not to buy MLD-049
Don't buy MLD-049 just because the designer used the word "fluting."
If the pattern actually consists of separate slats with a background between them, a solid 100 mm piece will change the visual result.
Don't choose MLD-049 if the project requires a variable pitch.
Do not choose MDF just because of the 2600 mm length if the project material must be solid wood.
Do not replace slats with MLD-049 without approval, even if the total strip for both solutions is 100 mm.
And don't buy several RK-001 pieces expecting that any set will automatically reproduce the factory relief of MLD-049.
Mistakes when choosing between MLD-049 and RK-001
Mistake: considering MLD-049 as a set of glued slats. It is a standalone fluted molding.
Mistake: considering RK-001 as a narrow version of MLD-049. RK-001 is a separate rectangular slat.
Mistake: comparing one MLD-049 with one RK-001 by price. For a slatted pattern, several elements may be needed.
Error: assuming that five slats automatically give 100 mm. Gaps must also be taken into account.
Error: ignore assembly operations. One solid piece and five separate pieces require different work organization.
Error: calling MLD-049 a rail in the invoice. The product type must be kept precise.
Final specification for a cabinet with four fronts
If MLD-049 made of beech is approved and the finished length of each strip is 2200 mm:
MLD-049 / beech / 100×8×2400 mm / Prestige / 4 pcs. / facades F1–F4 / one solid fluted strip 2200 mm per facade / finish ___
Product cost:
4 × 3 330 = 13 320 ₽.
If MDF is approved:
MLD-049 / MDF / 100×8×2600 mm / Prestige / For enamel / 4 pcs. / one solid strip per facade.
Product cost:
4 × 1 740 = 6 960 ₽.
If the designer chooses RK-001, the specification must be rebuilt: rail cross-section, quantity per front, spacing, length, material, and overall pattern.
What to check on the facade before making the final choice
Before payment, it is useful to open the working drawing of the cabinet and check the decor area itself. Record the front width, finished length of the vertical strip, distance to edges, adjacent handles and routings, as well as the base material.
For MLD-049, it is enough to confirm that the solid piece 100×8 mm fits into the allocated field and does not conflict with adjacent elements.
For RK-001, it is additionally necessary to record the number of slats and gaps. Without this, the cabinetmaker may assemble the composition "on site," which formally occupies the same 100 mm but visually differs from the sketch.
If the decor is repeated on several facades, it is better to approve one control unit before launching the entire batch. Then subsequent facades copy the already confirmed geometry rather than an interpretation of the render.

1,740 ₽ at the time of checking.
How much does the beech MLD-049 cost?
3 330 ₽.
How much does the oak MLD-049 cost?
4 500 ₽.
How is MLD-049 different from RK-001?
MLD-049 is one finished fluted piece 100×8 mm. RK-001 is a standalone rectangular-section batten.
Can a 100 mm strip be assembled from RK-001?
Yes, if the designer calculates the number of battens and gaps. But it will be a different structure and a different pattern.
Can MLD-049 be replaced with several RK-001 without approval?
It is not recommended. They are not automatic substitutes for each other.
What should be chosen for identical facades?
If the same solid fluted 100 mm strip is needed, MLD-049 is easier to specify as a ready SKU. If a custom spacing of individual elements is needed, RK-001 is considered.
Where can I buy MLD-049?
In the card of the wooden molding MLD-049 STAVROS.
Where can I see wooden slats?
In the RK-001 card or in a separate category of STAVROS slats.
