If you place the long side across a panel 600 mm wide, after a simple geometric check only 74 mm of total remainder is left, that is, 37 mm on each side with strict centering. And that's without the handle, panel, molding frame, and other boundaries.

Therefore, the question "will NPU-417.4 fit on the door" does not start with the overall width of the panel. You need the size of the clean decorative field — the part of the door inside which the overlay can actually be located. If there is already a frame, panel, handle, lock, glass, or pronounced milling on this field, the available area becomes smaller than the full door dimension.

NPU-417.4 is made of polyurethane. The size 526 × 260 × 17 mm makes it a noticeable stucco decor that needs to be fitted as a full compositional element. For a finished door, a simple method is especially useful: cut out a rectangle of 526 × 260 mm from paper or cardboard, attach it with masking tape in the intended place, and check what happens with the handle, panel, edges of the panel, and overall balance. In reality, the long side is 526 mm — more than half a meter. The second side is 260 mm. The relief protrudes by 17 mm.

This is no longer a small point overlay that can be placed almost anywhere. The NPU-417.4 requires noticeable space around it.

The same check for wider door leaves

But there is an even more important clarification: the table uses the available field, not the nominal door width. If the panel is 800 mm, but only 620 mm remains inside the frame, you need to calculate based on 620.

Door size is not the size of the space for stucco decor

The mistake starts with the phrase: "A door of 800 mm, an overlay of 526 mm, so it will definitely fit."

Physically — possibly. Compositionally — still unknown.

On a finished door, the useful field is reduced by the outer frame, panel, glass insert, decorative routing, existing molding, handle, lock plate, and already installed decor. Therefore, first measure the panel, then separately — the decorative area.

The clean field should be measured by the nearest active boundaries

If NPU-417.4 should be inside a panel, the inner part of the panel is measured. If between two moldings — the distance between them. If on a smooth door without frames — the field from edge to edge minus the zones you deliberately leave free. If there is a handle nearby — its dimension also becomes an active boundary.

A paper template of 526 × 260 mm is the cheapest stage of an expensive solution

For a finished door, a template is more useful than complex visualization.

Take paper, cardboard, or several glued sheets. Make a rectangle exactly 526 × 260 mm. Label it with the article number NPU-417.4. If it's important to feel the height of the relief, you can additionally assemble a rough backing about 17 mm thick, without trying to replicate the ornament itself.

Secure the template with painter's tape. Don't stick it immediately "by eye in the center." First, find several possible positions.

What to look at during the first fitting

Assess the distance to the edge of the door leaf, the position relative to the panel, the distance to the handle, the position relative to the lock plate, the balance of the upper and lower parts of the door, the view from a distance, the side view, and the effect of light. After that, photograph the door strictly from the front. The photo helps compare several options without constantly re-sticking the template.

A paneled door looks large, but the central field can be significantly smaller than the overall leaf. If the NPU-417.4 is planned inside the panel, compare 526 × 260 mm specifically with its internal dimension.

The overlay fits freely inside the panel

This is the most straightforward option. There is a margin around it, and the relief does not cross the frame profile. Next, the handle and vertical position are checked.

The dimension almost touches the frame

Technically, the element can "enter," but the composition becomes dense. A paper template will show whether it feels like intentional filling or a lack of space.

Horizontally or vertically: first composition, then geometry

NPU-417.4 has a dimension of 526 × 260 mm. Geometrically, the rectangle can be rotated. But the decorative ornament is not an empty rectangle.

Orientation should not be decided just because "it fits better." First, look at the actual pattern of the product and the design intent. For a preliminary check, you can make two templates: 526 mm horizontally and 260 mm vertically; then 260 mm horizontally and 526 mm vertically. After that, compare which composition makes sense for the specific door leaf.

The horizontal layout has a stronger effect on width

On a 600–700 mm door, the long side of 526 mm almost immediately becomes a critical dimension. This layout requires especially careful checking of side margins and the handle.

The vertical layout has a stronger effect on the height of the decorative area

If the long side is directed upward, there is more freedom in width, but the overlay begins to interact with the top and bottom frames, panel, peephole, glass, or other elements. One cannot declare a single option "correct" in advance.

The center of the door leaf and the center of the free field are not the same thing

Suppose the handle is on the right. The geometric center of the entire door does not account for its presence. If NPU-417.4 is placed strictly along the axis of the panel, the distance to the handle on the right may turn out to be much smaller than the visually free space on the left.

Sometimes the compositional center needs to be evaluated relative to the free zone, not the entire door. But here you cannot mechanically shift the plate to the left by an arbitrary number of millimeters. A strong shift can destroy the symmetry.

Upper third of the door: when NPU-417.4 can work better than the center

If the door is 600 mm wide: buying without a template is unwise

Let's return to the most illustrative example. The panel or clear field is 600 mm. NPU-417.4 along the long side is 526 mm. When centered, there is 37 mm of remainder on each side.

This number by itself does not say "impossible." But it does say: there is very little space, and any additional constraint becomes critical. If there is a frame at the edges, the actual field may be less than 600 mm. If there is a handle nearby, one side becomes even tighter. If the overlay must be inside the panel, you need to calculate based on the panel itself.

If the available field is 700 mm

700 − 526 = 174 mm. When centered, that is 87 mm on each side. This already offers more freedom, but even here you cannot automatically consider the task solved. The handle may extend into this zone, molding may take away part of the space, and the panel may have a complex profile. Therefore, 87 mm is only geometry.

If the available field is 800 mm

800 − 526 = 274 mm. That is 137 mm on each side when centered. This margin provides noticeably more placement options. You can compare the center, the upper third, and compositions with moldings. But even here, a large relief 17 mm thick can end up close to the handle if it is shifted toward the center.

If the door is very wide

On a wide panel, the opposite problem arises: NPU-417.4 can fit physically without any issues, but may seem insufficiently connected to the overall architecture. In that case, instead of increasing the number of overlays, it is sometimes more useful to use a molding frame.

If the project requires linear framing, you can buy polyurethane molding in the linear elements section and assemble a larger decorative field around NPU-417.4. This way, the door's scale is supported not by the number of identical overlays, but by the entire composition.

One NPU-417.4 on one door is a basic scenario, but not a rule

For a large element, one overlay per panel is the most understandable starting point for a layout. But this is not a norm that can be applied to all doors.

On a tall, wide door, a single element can look cohesive. On a narrow one, it may appear too large. On a double door, two identical overlays can create a good pair or an overly dense pattern. Therefore, the quantity emerges after the layout, not before it.

Double door: one article becomes two objects of perception.

If NPU-417.4 is intended for both panels, cut out two full-size templates. Do not try on just one, mentally promising yourself that the second will be "symmetrical."

The request for molding for furniture NPU-417.4 is suitable only where the facade truly withstands its scale. A cabinet door can be narrower than an interior door. If the facade width is 450–500 mm, the long side of 526 mm physically does not fit across. Vertical placement may fit geometrically, but not necessarily compositionally.

Therefore, for furniture, you cannot rely on a successful photo of NPU-417.4 on a large door.

First, measure one control facade

If the cabinet consists of four identical doors, you don't need to immediately order four overlays just because "one per facade." First, make a full-size template on one door. Then copy it to the others. Look at the cabinet as a whole.

Four large NPU-417.4 can create a much denser ornamental rhythm than it seems from a single door.

Dresser and nightstand: the 526 mm size quickly becomes the main limitation

On a small dresser, the NPU-417.4 can take up almost the entire width of the front. If the drawer is 600 mm wide, the geometry is similar to a door: 37 mm on each side when centering the long side.

But the height of the drawer is usually much less than the height of the door. Here, the 260 mm size can become critical. If the front is 280–300 mm high, the overlay will almost completely fill it in height.

Therefore, the NPU-417.4 cannot be considered a universal furniture overlay just because polyurethane decor is generally used on furniture.

When it's better to switch to another overlay

If after a paper mock-up several conflicts arise at once — edge, handle, panel, free space — you don't need to fit the door to the NPU-417.4 at any cost.

This is especially reasonable if the long side of 526 mm is too large, the height of 260 mm doesn't fit into the panel, the handle cannot be avoided without significant shifting, the 17 mm relief is too close to the work area, or the door already has rich milling.

When the large size of the NPU-417.4 is an advantage

On a wide smooth surface, a small decor can get lost. Then 526 × 260 mm provides exactly the scale needed for an independent central accent.

A large element is also convenient because you don't have to assemble a composition from a dozen small parts. One overlay can set the center, and a molding can organize the field around it. This makes the interior look more cohesive than with a random set of small decor.

A molding frame can solve the scale problem, but it can also reduce the field.

Molding works both ways. On a large door, it helps connect NPU-417.4 with the panel. On a small one, it additionally reduces the free space.

Therefore, the order of actions is as follows: first the NPU-417.4 template, then the lines of the future molding with painter's tape, then a re-evaluation. Not the other way around.

If you first build a beautiful frame and then try to squeeze 526 × 260 mm into it, you may find that the inner field has become too cramped.

Inside the frame, you need to calculate the inner size, not the outer one.

Imagine a decorative rectangle made of molding with a width of 700 mm along the outer contour. If the profile itself has a noticeable width, the inner field will be less than 700 mm. NPU-417.4 should be compared specifically with the inner space.

This is a simple principle, but it is precisely where mistakes are often made in visualizations.

Polyurethane decor works through light, and NPU-417.4 has a relief of 17 mm.

The 17 mm thickness forms a real shadow. On a door next to a window, it will shift throughout the day. Under directed light, the relief will become more noticeable. With soft diffused lighting, it will be calmer.

Therefore, a layout that looks neat under frontal light may appear much more dynamic in the evening.

If you want to compare other decorative polyurethane elements, pay attention not only to width and height, but also to depth. Two elements of the same design with different thicknesses are perceived differently.

A white door and white decor do not make NPU-417.4 invisible

Sometimes a buyer reasons like this: if the overlay is painted in the door's color, a large size is not a problem. Color does reduce the contrast of the material. But the relief remains.

Chiaroscuro continues to reveal the 17-millimeter depth and the shape of the ornament. Therefore, white-on-white may look calm in color, but very expressive in form.

Contrast painting enhances the scale

If NPU-417.4 differs in color from the door leaf, its dimensions of 526 × 260 mm become visually even more pronounced. On a narrow door, contrast can emphasize crampedness. On a wide one, it can make the overlay a true centerpiece.

Hence the practical conclusion: a paper mock-up is useful to supplement with a color one. You can print or color the template in an approximate future tone and see how perception changes.

The finished door covering requires careful installation inspection

The door is already finished—meaning an installation error affects not the blank, but the final surface.

Before gluing, you need to check what the base is made of, what it is coated with, whether the chosen adhesive is compatible with this coating, whether the surface needs local preparation, whether a test can be done on an inconspicuous area, and how to remove excess compound without damaging the finish.

You should not automatically transfer the technology from the wall to the door.

The adhesive is selected for the system "polyurethane + door coating"

NPU-417.4 is made of polyurethane, but the second half of the adhesive joint is the door itself. Therefore, the request for adhesive for molded decor is useful not as advice "take any mounting compound," but as a separate technology check.

For a finished painted door, compatibility with the finish coating is especially important.

Do not use adhesive thickness as a way to fix geometry

If NPU-417.4 does not fit compositionally, an additional layer of adhesive will not solve the problem. If the relief is too close to the handle, the protrusion will worsen the situation even more. If the door is uneven, the adhesive should not replace the design solution without checking the specific compound.

Installation begins after the placement is approved.

Marking on a finished door: a pencil may be worse than painter's tape

On a newly painted surface, you don't want to leave marks. For the first layout, it is more convenient to use painter's tape. On it, you can mark the door axis, the edge of NPU-417.4, the handle position, the panel boundaries, and the future molding.

Once the composition is approved, the marking technologist is selected already taking into account the coating.

The laser helps find the axis, but does not choose the beautiful position.

The laser level is useful for horizontal and vertical. But it does not answer the question of where NPU-417.4 looks better.

First, the composition is chosen by eye and template. Then its geometry is fixed with a tool. If you change the order, you can get a perfectly even but compositionally unsuccessful overlay.

How many NPU-417.4 to order

The quantity is calculated not by the door area, but by the number of approved decorative items.

This is not a quantity standard. The table shows the calculation method. First, it is decided how many decorative points exist in the project. Then each point becomes one order line.

Ordering "two just in case" without a layout is not needed

NPU-417.4 is a large element. A second copy does not automatically become useful just because it is in reserve. If the project provides for one overlay per door, the quantity is determined by this scheme. Reserve makes sense only with a specific risk and after evaluating the project.

A series of identical doors requires a control first door

If there are six identical panels in the house, the temptation to order six elements at once is understandable. But first, it is advisable to fully check one door: template, handle, height, lighting, installation, and color.

After that, the approved coordinates can be transferred to the rest. Thus, the series becomes repeatable, rather than repeating one mistake six times.

It is better to set the installation height from a stable base.

For a finished door, the main purchase usually consists of more than just one overlay.

You don't need to buy all table rows at once. A simple door may require only one NPU-417.4 and suitable mounting compound. Moldings and additional elements are added when they are actually present on the layout.

Polyurethane door decor: when it's more useful to first understand the whole system

If NPU-417.4 is to become part of a large portal, casings, cornices, or other elements around the opening, checking just the leaf is not enough.

A long handle on a backplate requires a separate template

A round rosette occupies a small area. A long backplate can have significant height depending on the model. In such a case, a second large vertical object appears next to NPU-417.4.

Make a paper outline of not only the plate but also the handle. Then you can see whether the two shapes compete.

A handle centered on the panel restricts NPU-417.4 more than a side one

If the handle is strongly shifted to the edge, the central field remains freer. If it is located close to the center of the decorative zone, the large plate has to move up or down.

This is another reason to measure the actual door rather than use someone else's scheme.

Lock, latch, and handle plate: look at the entire group

The door may have a separate plate for the key or lock. It is also part of the visual group. NPU-417.4 should not end up between the handle and the lower plate as if it randomly fills the remaining space. The composition is built around all the hardware.

Trimming the ornament is not a standard way to reduce NPU-417.4

A finished molded element cannot be treated as a rectangular blank of 526 × 260 mm that can always be reduced. The carved shape has a composition. A cut can disrupt the ornament.

If the project requires modifying a standard product, the feasibility of a specific solution must be separately approved, not planned as a routine on-site adjustment.

If the door is already painted, the color of the future NPU-417.4 must be agreed upon in advance

After gluing, experimenting is more difficult. You need to decide whether the decor remains the color of the door, becomes contrasting, is painted separately before installation, or is painted together with the panel using an agreed technology.

The specific procedure depends on the coating and installation system. The main thing is not to leave the color until the overlay is already glued.

A monochrome scheme makes the door calmer, but does not reduce the physical size

NPU-417.4 will remain 526 × 260 × 17 mm regardless of color. Therefore, "let's paint everything white" does not replace checking the scale. A monochrome finish merely shifts attention from color contrast to shadow and relief.

A contrasting scheme requires even more free space
