Description
Carved moulding KPU-012, 70 mm wide, is adorned with a large floral ornament featuring acanthus leaves and floral motifs. The dense relief forms a continuous, richly detailed band, while the 14 mm height emphasizes the volume and plasticity of the design. The scale of the decor is intended for a clearly visible surface treatment.
Such acanthus moulding is appropriate for large furniture fronts, door panels, panels, and wide frame compositions. It helps create an expressive decorative border and makes the ornament a standalone part of the composition.

Large Acanthus Leaf Panel Molding for Walls, Doors, Furniture, and Architectural Interiors
KPU-012 is an Acanthus Leaf panel molding designed for projects where decorative molding should become a clearly visible part of the architecture rather than a narrow finishing line.
Made from polyurethane, the profile measures 70 mm (2.76 in) wide, 14 mm (0.55 in) deep, and 2000 mm (78.74 in) long. The current STAVROS product card confirms these dimensions and describes the ornament as a large floral composition featuring acanthus leaves and botanical motifs. Ставрос Декор
The broad face gives the relief enough space for individual leaves and floral details to remain legible, while the 14 mm projection creates pronounced highlights and shadows across the ornament.
KPU-012 can be used for:
- large wall panels;
- decorative door panels;
- furniture fronts;
- wardrobes and built-ins;
- mirrors;
- portals;
- large framed compositions;
- architectural borders;
- suitable gently curved applications.
For other patterns and dimensions, browse the STAVROS decorative polyurethane molding and trim collection.
What Is Acanthus Leaf Panel Molding?
Acanthus Leaf molding is a classical architectural profile based on the stylized foliage of the acanthus plant.
The motif has been used for centuries in classical architecture, furniture, capitals, friezes, cornices, and decorative borders.
In the U.S. millwork market, this is a standard product term. American manufacturers and retailers sell products under names such as Acanthus Leaf Urethane Panel Moulding and Acanthus Leaf Panel Moulding. decorativeceilingtiles.net
For KPU-012, panel molding is particularly appropriate because the profile is broad enough to create a substantial framed border on walls, doors, and furniture.
The semantic hierarchy should therefore be:
Acanthus Leaf Panel Molding — primary product name
Acanthus Leaf Molding — exact ornamental cluster
Leaf Molding / Floral Molding — related terminology
Decorative Molding / Ornamental Molding — broader supporting terms.
Why KPU-012 Is Different From Narrow Decorative Trim
KPU-012 has a 70 mm / 2.76 in face width.
That is substantially larger than the 9–20 mm decorative trims used for small furniture details and inner borders.
A narrow profile usually creates a fine line.
KPU-012 creates:
- a broad ornamental border;
- substantial botanical relief;
- a strong pattern of light and shadow;
- enough scale to remain visible from normal room distance.
This makes KPU-012 more appropriate for large panels and architectural surfaces than very small decorative details.
The profile should be selected because its scale suits the project—not simply because the ornament is attractive in a close-up photograph.
Acanthus Leaf Molding for Large Wall Panels
One of the strongest applications for KPU-012 is panel molding on large walls.
The profile can form:
- a complete rectangular wall frame;
- an ornamental inner border;
- one side of a large architectural composition;
- a decorative surround around wallpaper;
- a frame around a large mirror or artwork zone.
For example:
simple outer molding → KPU-012 Acanthus Leaf molding → central wall panel
The outer profile establishes geometry.
KPU-012 introduces botanical ornament.
The center provides visual rest.
For simpler structural frames, combine KPU-012 with STAVROS polyurethane molding profiles.
Panel Molding for Classical Wall Compositions
KPU-012 is particularly well suited to classical and neoclassical panel layouts.
Its large floral ornament can support:
- formal living-room walls;
- dining-room panels;
- entry halls;
- large bedroom feature walls;
- decorative niches;
- architectural mirror compositions.
Because the pattern is already visually rich, the molding benefits from generous areas of plain wall around it.
Several equally ornate moldings placed too close together can make the composition visually dense.
A stronger hierarchy usually comes from combining one detailed profile with quieter supporting moldings.
Decorative Molding for Door Panels
The current STAVROS product page specifically positions KPU-012 for door panels. Ставрос Декор
The profile can be used on:
- paneled interior doors;
- large recessed door panels;
- decorative inserts;
- double doors;
- portal compositions;
- custom doors with classical detailing.
KPU-012 should normally be treated as the ornamental layer rather than the primary functional casing around the doorway.
A possible composition is:
door casing → plain spacing → KPU-012 Acanthus Leaf molding
or KPU-012 may be applied directly to the door leaf itself.
Its 2.76 in width is substantial enough to create a major decorative feature.
Acanthus Leaf Molding for Portals
Large architectural openings can support KPU-012 particularly well.
Possible portal applications include:
- ornamental side borders;
- decorative bands above the opening;
- inner framing inside a larger portal;
- coordination with wall panels beside the doorway.
Because the profile is strongly ornamental, enough spacing should be left between KPU-012 and other detailed elements.
This helps the acanthus relief remain easy to read rather than merging into a dense collection of ornament.
Furniture Molding for Large Fronts
KPU-012 can also function as furniture molding on medium and large furniture surfaces.
Suitable applications include:
- wardrobes;
- large cabinet doors;
- built-in cabinetry;
- display cabinets;
- library units;
- furniture side panels;
- architectural furniture.
At 70 mm / 2.76 in wide, KPU-012 is not intended as delicate furniture edging.
It works better as an obvious decorative border.
For example:
main furniture frame → KPU-012 Acanthus Leaf molding → central panel
creates a substantial classical composition.
Before ordering, mark the actual 70 mm width on the furniture front to confirm that enough open surface remains around the molding.
Floral Trim for Large Furniture Panels
The combination of acanthus leaves and additional floral motifs gives KPU-012 more visual richness than a simple leaf profile.
This makes floral trim and floral molding useful supporting terms.
However, Acanthus Leaf Panel Molding should remain the primary product name because it identifies the dominant classical motif more precisely.
For furniture, this floral relief can add depth to:
- painted wardrobes;
- classic cabinetry;
- statement furniture fronts;
- decorative doors;
- large built-in units.
A tone-on-tone finish can keep the result refined despite the size of the ornament.
KPU-012 for Mirrors
Large mirrors are another suitable application.
KPU-012 can create:
- a complete ornamental frame;
- a large Acanthus Leaf inner border;
- one layer within a broader architectural surround;
- vertical decorative sides around a mirror panel.
A large mirror in an entry hall, dining room, bedroom, or formal living area can support the 2.76 in molding naturally.
For smaller mirrors, a narrower profile will usually produce better proportions.
Can KPU-012 Be Used on an Arch?
This is one area where KPU-012 differs from completely rigid profiles.
STAVROS states that the polyurethane profile can accept a careful bend, but the company does not publish a universal minimum bending radius. Ставрос Декор
That distinction is important.
KPU-012 should not simply be marketed as:
Flexible Molding
because flexibility is not its primary product type and not every arch will be suitable.
For a curved installation, the project should consider:
- actual radius;
- arc length;
- required bending force;
- ornament distortion;
- position of joints;
- transition from curved to straight sections.
A gentle curve may work.
A tight radius may require a dedicated flexible molding instead.
How to Check KPU-012 Before Using It on a Curve
For an arch or rounded furniture panel, work from the real geometry rather than an assumed radius.
A practical process is:
- make or mark the actual curve;
- compare a KPU-012 section with the radius;
- bend only as much as the profile accepts comfortably;
- check whether the acanthus ornament distorts;
- determine the required arc length;
- plan joints before installation.
STAVROS explicitly recommends checking the real template because polyurethane alone does not guarantee a particular bending radius. Ставрос Декор
This gives the product page useful long-tail relevance around curved architectural applications without making unsupported claims.
KPU-012 vs. Dedicated Flexible Molding
A dedicated flexible molding and KPU-012 solve different priorities.
A flexible profile is chosen primarily because it must follow a curve.
KPU-012 is chosen primarily because of its large Acanthus Leaf ornament.
Use KPU-012 when:
- the pattern is an important part of the design;
- the curve is gentle enough;
- the profile can follow it without excessive force;
- the relief remains visually stable.
Choose dedicated flexible trim when:
- the radius is tight;
- the surface changes direction sharply;
- flexibility is the primary requirement.
This distinction helps prevent ordering the correct ornament for the wrong geometry.
KPU-012 vs. KPU-001 Acanthus Leaf Molding
KPU-001 and KPU-012 both belong to the broader Acanthus Leaf cluster, but they should serve different search and design intents.
KPU-001 is available in several profile sizes and is suitable for multiple scales.
KPU-012 is a single large profile:
70 × 14 × 2000 mm
with a dense floral band and a much broader face.
Therefore:
KPU-001 — versatile Acanthus Leaf molding available in multiple scales.
KPU-012 — large Acanthus Leaf Panel Molding for substantial panels, doors, furniture, and architectural features.
This difference should remain explicit throughout the text to reduce cannibalization between the two product pages.
KPU-012 vs. KPU-074 Acanthus Leaf Molding
KPU-074 is another large acanthus profile, but it has different proportions:
KPU-012: 70 × 14 × 2000 mm
KPU-074: 50 × 19 × 2000 mm
KPU-012 is wider but shallower.
KPU-074 is narrower but deeper.
This creates different visual behavior.
KPU-012 spreads the ornament across a broader face.
KPU-074 creates stronger projection and deeper shadow.
The correct model depends on whether the project prioritizes width or depth of relief.

The current Description likewise specifies a 70 mm profile with a 14 mm relief and a dense acanthus-and-floral ornament. Ставрос Декор
Why the 70 mm Width Matters
A 70 mm molding is almost 2.8 inches wide.
That means KPU-012 should be evaluated at real scale before ordering.
On a large wall or door, this can look proportionate and architectural.
On a small furniture front, it may dominate the available surface.
A simple full-size test is useful:
mark a 2.76 in-wide strip on the intended wall, door, mirror, or cabinet.
Then evaluate:
- remaining open surface;
- distance to surrounding profiles;
- relationship to hardware;
- visual balance at normal viewing distance.
This is more reliable than judging the product solely from close-up images.
Why the 14 mm Relief Matters
KPU-012 projects 14 mm / 0.55 in from the mounting surface.
This gives the acanthus and floral details enough depth to create visible highlights and shadows.
However, the relief is relatively moderate compared with the profile's 70 mm width.
That balance allows a large ornamental face without excessive projection.
This can be useful for wall panels, doors, and furniture where a strongly projecting molding might interfere with nearby elements.
Acanthus Leaf Panel Molding in Classic Interiors
KPU-012 naturally suits classical interiors.
It can be coordinated with:
- paneled walls;
- decorative doors;
- architectural furniture;
- mirrors;
- pilasters;
- cornices;
- ceiling medallions;
- polyurethane onlays.
The large floral band already provides strong ornament, so neighboring profiles often work better when they are simpler.
For separate relief elements, browse STAVROS polyurethane decorative elements and onlays.
KPU-012 in Neoclassical Interiors
KPU-012 can also work in neoclassical design when used selectively.
Rather than surrounding every wall panel with the profile, it may be used on:
- one principal panel;
- one large mirror;
- a major doorway;
- a statement furniture front;
- one architectural feature.
Painting KPU-012 in the same color as the surrounding surface reduces the visual intensity of the floral motif.
The ornament remains visible through relief rather than strong color contrast.
Pattern Alignment on Long Runs
KPU-012 has a repeating botanical ornament, so longitudinal joints require planning.
A tight physical joint may still look poor if:
- an acanthus leaf is cut awkwardly;
- two motifs overlap visually;
- spacing changes abruptly.
Before cutting:
- place adjacent sections together;
- identify the repeat;
- choose a natural joint location;
- mark both pieces;
- dry-fit;
- inspect from normal viewing distance.
This is particularly important on long wall panels and portal compositions.
Planning Corners
Large floral molding makes corner mistakes easier to notice.
Before building a rectangular KPU-012 frame:
- establish all finished dimensions;
- mark corner positions;
- make one test miter;
- inspect the leaf closest to the cut;
- compare the opposite side;
- continue only after the transition looks balanced.
Perfect pattern symmetry at every corner may not be possible.
The goal is to avoid obviously awkward cuts through the main ornament.
How Much KPU-012 Should You Order?
Each KPU-012 profile is 2000 mm / 78.74 in long.
Calculate the actual required length, then allow for:
- miter cuts;
- floral-pattern matching;
- longitudinal joints;
- curved sections where applicable;
- offcuts;
- installation reserve.
For an arch, calculate curved and straight sections separately.
For wall and furniture frames, prepare a cutting map before finalizing quantity.
Combining KPU-012 With Other STAVROS Profiles
KPU-012 is expressive enough to become the primary ornamental profile in a layered composition.
For example:
wide simple molding → KPU-012 Acanthus Leaf Panel Molding → narrow inner trim → central panel
or:
door casing → plain gap → KPU-012 ornamental band
For broader structural profiles, browse STAVROS polyurethane moldings.
For rope, bead, Reed & Ribbon, floral, geometric, and other ornamental trims, browse decorative polyurethane molding and trim.
