A stair post is rarely bought on its own. You can choose a beautiful model, add it to your cart, receive the order — and only at the site discover that the railing is still not assembled. Balusters, handrail, finial, fasteners, and finishing materials are missing. Moreover, even separately purchased elements may not come together into a single composition: one part might be oak for tinting, another beech for enamel, a third require different surface preparation, and the chosen handrail may not match the design connection node.
With the L-055 post, the task looks especially concrete. It is a starting, or entry, element measuring 1200 × 100 mm, made of beech or oak. Its turned silhouette is expressive enough to mark the beginning of the stair railing, but not overloaded with dense carving. Therefore, around L-055, you can assemble a calm wooden composition: use L-052 balusters from the related line, add smooth turned L-054, choose a laconic finial L-022, and complete the railing with a wooden handrail of a suitable profile.
The main difficulty is not in finding each item separately. The buyer needs to place one coordinated order. The post, balusters, finial, and handrail must match in wood species, finishing logic, surface preparation quality, and scale. The quantity is determined by the project, not by a photo of a finished staircase. The size of the finial is chosen according to the drawing, not by the first number in the table. The handrail is checked against the design of the top node, not just by the wood color.
If the staircase geometry is already known, the first item in the specification becomes L-055 post for a wooden staircase. But the quantity "1 pc." next to the post does not yet mean the cart is ready. Before payment, it is necessary to determine which balusters will set the rhythm of the railing, which L-022 fits in terms of seating and proportions, which handrail will connect the elements, and what wood preparation is needed for the chosen finish.
First the list, then the cart
It is easier to assemble a stair railing not from a list of liked items, but from a specification. It includes all elements that should be at the site at the same time.
For a simple straight staircase, the specification may include:
-
starting post L-055;
-
post at the end of the run;
-
additional support or turn posts;
-
balusters L-052;
-
balusters L-054, if alternation is specified;
-
finials L-022;
-
wooden handrail;
-
under-rail strip, if required by the selected assembly;
-
fasteners;
-
mounting materials;
-
materials for finishing;
-
spare elements, if the reserve is justified by the project.
For a staircase with a landing, a turn, or a second flight, the list becomes longer. The initial post remains just one position within the system.
Why you shouldn't start with the number of balusters
Common logic goes like this: the buyer measures the length of the flight, picks a baluster they like, and tries to roughly determine the number of pieces. But the quantity depends not only on the length.
First, you need to know:
-
where the posts are located;
-
what the actual railing line is;
-
what the design spacing of the balusters will be;
-
whether L-052 and L-054 alternate;
-
whether there is a horizontal balustrade;
-
how the start and end of the flight are resolved;
-
what is happening on the site;
-
how many fence sections have different lengths;
-
what safety requirements are taken into account in the project.
Only after this is the quantity transferred to the list. Buying balusters "with a small margin by eye" does not replace the calculation.

Why the post should be chosen before the finial
The finial is installed on a specific base. If you first choose L-022 solely from a photo, and then try to attach it to L-055, it may turn out that the visual scale or mounting geometry does not fit the project.
The correct sequence is the reverse:
-
Post L-055 is selected.
-
Its drawing is opened.
-
The top part and the method of completion are determined.
-
Variants of L-022 are compared.
-
Landing is being checked.
-
The scale of the finial on a post 1200 mm high is being assessed.
-
Only after this are the material, quantity, and finish selected.

Confirmed characteristics of post L-055
| Parameter | Value | What does this change in the order |
|---|---|---|
| Article number | L-055 | All related documents and items should be linked to the exact article number. |
| Type | Starting, entry stair post | Serves as a prominent starting point or another point of the railing section as specified in the project. |
| Size | 1200 × 100 mm | The height and cross-section should be matched with the staircase, balusters, and handrail. |
| Material | Beech or oak | The wood species should be consistent with the balusters, finial, and handrail. |
| Sanding quality | Standard or Prestige | Affects the degree of surface preparation and the amount of work before finishing. |
| Regluing quality | For enamel or tinting | Selected based on future opaque or translucent coating |
| Shape | Restrained turned | Allows assembling a fence without dense decorative carving |
| Linked balusters | L-052 and L-054 | You can build one line or a thoughtful alternation |
| Recommended finial | L-022 | Size is selected separately according to the drawing and proportions |
| Receiving | Order via the card with delivery | Delivery time and availability are checked for the selected modification before payment |
The size 1200 × 100 mm should not be perceived as a full description of the finished assembly. The first value shows the overall height of the post, the second is the transverse parameter specified in the card. The exact position of turned sections, upper and lower zones, and junction points should be taken from the drawing.
L-055 sets the scale of the entire composition
The starting post is larger than a regular baluster. Its task is not just to repeat the vertical rhythm, but to mark the support point of the railing. Therefore, the details around it are evaluated relative to its height, width, and character of processing.
If you place too thin balusters with fine patterns nearby, the transition may look abrupt. If you choose very rich carving, the restrained post will lose connection with the row. A too-small finial will make the top look unfinished, while an excessively large one will visually weigh down the L-055.
What does "without excess carving" mean
This wording does not mean the complete absence of decorative form. L-055 is a turned element. Its expressiveness is built on the variation of profile along the height, alternation of narrowings and widenings, and proportions of smooth sections.
A calm railing is achieved not when all details are turned into simple rectangular blocks, but when decorative activity is distributed in measured doses:
-
the post sets the large silhouette;
-
the balusters support the vertical rhythm;
-
the finial completes the top;
-
the handrail connects the line;
-
the finish unifies the wood species and color.
Where L-055 can be used in the project
The exact purpose and number of posts are determined by the project. L-055 can be considered as:
-
starting post at the first flight;
-
entry element at the beginning of the railing;
-
support point of a straight run;
-
part of the composition near the landing;
-
large vertical element of the balustrade;
-
post in the railing where a calm turned shape is required.
You cannot automatically use the same node at a turn, landing, and beginning of a flight. The direction of the handrail, its approach height, and the mounting method may differ.
L-052 or L-054: two different ways to build a row
The L-055 card indicates a combination with L-052 balusters and the possibility of alternating with smooth turned L-054. This does not mean that the buyer necessarily needs both models. The compositional principle is chosen first.
L-052 is a continuation of the related line
Baluster L-052 has dimensions of 1000 × 60 mm. It is perceived as a more developed element in form and supports its own L-055 line.
Baluster L-052 for post L-055 suitable when the buyer wants a consistent row with noticeable turned plasticity, but does not want to move to an overloaded carved composition.
In such a railing:
-
the post remains the largest element;
-
L-052 is repeated at equal intervals;
-
the handrail forms a continuous top line;
-
the finial completes the post;
-
wood and finish unite all the details.
L-054 — a calmer rhythm
L-054 measures 1000 × 70 mm and has a smooth turned shape. It is slightly wider than L-052 in the specified cross dimension, but the visual perception depends on the entire profile.
You can buy balusters L-054 for post L-055, if you need a calm row where expressiveness is built on silhouette and wood, rather than on intricate carving.
L-054 is especially appropriate when:
-
the interior does not require rich ornamentation;
-
the handrail has a minimalist profile;
-
the wood finish should be clearly visible;
-
the emphasis shifts to the geometry of the staircase;
-
active doors, panels, or furniture are already present nearby;
-
the railing should not compete with the room's architecture.
Alternating L-052 and L-054
The third scenario is to use both models. It looks convincing only with a pre-drawn sequence.
Possible schemes:
-
L-052 — L-054 — L-052 — L-054;
-
one L-052 after two L-054;
-
decorative L-052 at key points, with smooth L-054 between them;
-
a separate pattern for the stair flight and a calmer one for the balustrade.
You cannot choose the order directly during installation based on the remaining quantity. Otherwise, the rhythm near the start of the flight may differ from the end, and a random sequence will appear near the post.
How to draw the baluster layout before ordering
For a preliminary decision, complex visualization is not required. A scaled diagram of each railing section is sufficient.
On it, mark:
-
start and end;
-
posts;
-
line length;
-
position of the first baluster;
-
position of the last baluster;
-
intermediate axes;
-
item number of each position;
-
repeating pattern;
-
turns;
-
sections of horizontal balustrade;
-
handrail joints.
Example of a calm row
Suppose the project specifies eight balusters between two posts. If only L-054 is used, the schedule contains eight identical parts.
If alternation is chosen:
-
four L-052;
-
four L-054.
But this is only true for a specific layout. With nine positions, symmetrical alternation will require deciding which model will be in the center and which will stand next to the posts.
Why symmetry is not always mandatory
A stair flight is perceived in motion, so strict mirror symmetry is not possible on every section. However, the absence of symmetry should follow from the design, not from a counting error.
Count each section separately
You cannot add up the total length of the flight and balustrade and then divide by one step. Sections differ in:
-
to the slope;
-
length;
-
to the position of the posts;
-
to the junctions;
-
to the number of turns;
-
to the handrail scheme.
After individual calculations, the quantities are summed by article numbers.
1000 mm balusters and 1200 mm post: why this is not a size conflict
A buyer may see the height of L-055 as 1200 mm and balusters as 1000 mm and decide that the parts do not fit each other. Such a comparison is too straightforward.
The post and baluster perform different roles. The post may have additional upper and lower sections, a different seating, and a different position relative to the stair structure. The finished handrail line depends not only on the full length of each part, but also on:
-
the installation depth;
-
lower trim locations;
-
flight incline;
-
under-rail system;
-
top part shape;
-
handrail approach height;
-
platform structure.
You cannot subtract 1000 from 1200 and assume that the handrail near the post will be 200 mm higher. The comparison is done according to drawings and the design section.
How to choose L-022 and not make a mistake with the first number
The L-022 top piece is available in four sizes:
| Option | Size A × B × C × E, mm | How to perceive |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 96 × 48 × 60 × 78 | The most compact grid option |
| 2 | 127 × 64 × 80 × 104 | More noticeable finish |
| 3 | 150 × 77 × 96 × 125 | Large decorative accent |
| 4 | 181 × 97 × 120 × 156 | Maximum scale among the specified options |
For pillar L-055, the size is specified as 100 mm. There is a temptation to choose a finial with the first size of 96 mm because the numbers are close. This approach is incorrect.
Designations A, B, C, and E refer to the geometry of a specific finial. Not every value describes the mounting plane. To order finial L-022 for a stair pillar, you need to open the drawing and determine which part contacts the pillar.
What to check on the L-022 drawing
-
width of the seating area;
-
height of the lower part;
-
maximum overall dimension;
-
installation direction;
-
position of the decorative volume;
-
possibility of adjustment to the project;
-
visible transition between the column and the cap.
What to check on drawing L-055
-
shape of the upper part;
-
actual platform for the cap;
-
axis position;
-
decorative transitions;
-
acceptable connection method;
-
final height together with the top element.
Visual scale is just as important as fit
Even if two elements can technically be connected, the result may look disproportionate.
Compact finial:
-
adds less to the overall height;
-
supports the restrained character of L-055;
-
does not draw attention away from the baluster row;
-
suits interiors without large decor.
Large:
-
becomes a noticeable completion;
-
emphasizes the beginning of the staircase;
-
requires a fairly spacious environment;
-
has a stronger effect on the silhouette;
-
must be supported by other large details.
Paper mockup of the finial
Before purchasing, you can print or draw the side profile of each option to scale. Attach the mockup to an image or diagram of the post. This does not check the fit, but helps assess whether the chosen L-022 looks too small or too heavy.
The finial should not compete with the post
L-055 is valuable precisely for its moderate decorativeness. Therefore, the choice of L-022 is not based on the principle "the larger, the richer."
An overly active top can:
-
break the elongated proportion;
-
make the column visually shorter;
-
create a heavy point at the level of the handrail;
-
distract attention from the row of balusters;
-
require repetition of large decor in other places.
A too small variant can also be a mistake:
-
the top looks unfinished;
-
the transition seems random;
-
the finial gets lost on the column;
-
the scale does not match the spacious staircase.
The decision is made based on the overall composition, not on the price of a single item.
The handrail is chosen by the assembly, not by the shade.
After the post, balusters, and top cap, the long-length part remains — the handrail. It is this that connects the vertical elements into a continuous line.
In the catalog you can order a wooden handrail for a staircase, but before choosing a profile, several design questions need to be resolved.
Grip shape
The handrail is used every day. Its top part should be comfortable for the hand. But ergonomics are not determined by a single glance at a photo. The following are checked:
-
width;
-
profile height;
-
roundings;
-
transitions;
-
possibility of a confident grip;
-
combination with an adult's and child's hand;
-
absence of uncomfortable sharp edges after finishing.
Lower part of the handrail
The handrail can interact with:
-
top of balusters;
-
under-rail plank;
-
special groove;
-
connecting bar;
-
fastening elements.
Therefore, a beautiful external profile does not yet confirm compatibility.
Approach to L-055
The drawing must show:
-
at what angle the handrail approaches;
-
which part of the post it enters;
-
where it ends;
-
Is trimming required?
-
whether there is a decorative transition;
-
whether the joint intersects with the finial;
-
how the connection is made on the landing.
Handrail on a straight flight
The line runs at a constant slope. The main issue is the precise connection to the posts and the tops of the balusters.
Handrail on the platform
A horizontal section may require a separate joint or a turning solution.
Turning staircase
The handrail cannot be considered as a single straight bar. Direction change nodes will be required, which are designed in advance.
Why the handrail color is chosen after the profile
The handrail can be made from the required wood species and prepared for the overall finish, but first it must be structurally suitable.
Correct sequence:
-
Determine the geometry of the railing.
-
Select the handrail profile.
-
Check the under-rail assembly.
-
Calculate lengths and joints.
-
Clarify the material.
-
Choose the quality of preparation.
-
Agree on the finishing.
If you start with the phrase "need an oak handrail," the buyer will get too broad a list, in which some options are not suitable for the construction.
One handrail or several segments
The total length of the railing line is not always equal to the length of one purchased part. The cutting is affected by:
-
standard length of the selected profile;
-
transportation;
-
turns;
-
platforms;
-
joint locations;
-
direction of fibers;
-
allowance for trimming;
-
production reserve;
-
possibility of using the remainder in another section.
What to write in the log
Not "handrail — 9 meters," but:
-
article number;
-
material;
-
standard length of one plank;
-
number of slats;
-
application area;
-
finish size;
-
allowance;
-
the joint location;
-
direction.
Such a calculation helps to check how many long-length elements actually need to be ordered.
Beech under enamel: when color matters more than wood grain
Beech is suitable for a project where the post, balusters, finial, and handrail will be painted with an opaque coating.
For such a set, blanks for enamel are chosen. In them, lamellas do not have to be matched by color and texture, because the final opaque coating hides the differences.
Advantages of a unified beech set
-
all main elements are made from the same wood species;
-
it is easier to organize a unified preparation technology;
-
the opaque color unifies the parts;
-
turned shapes are read through light and shadow;
-
the wood grain does not compete with the architecture;
-
the staircase can be coordinated with painted doors, baseboards, and furniture.
What still needs to be checked
Preparation "for enamel" does not mean a finished painted product. The buyer will still need:
-
primer;
-
abrasive materials;
-
enamel;
-
suitable tool;
-
drying area;
-
protection of landing areas;
-
Test coating.
Why you shouldn't mix beech and oak without necessity
An opaque coating does hide the grain, but the wood species can differ in surface structure and behavior during preparation. If the entire set is available in beech, randomly adding an oak piece complicates the technology and the estimate.
Oak for tinting: when the staircase should remain wooden
Oak is chosen if the natural texture should be visible in the finished railing. For semi-transparent finishing, preparation for tinting is required.
In such a blank, lamellas are selected more carefully by color and texture, but natural wood still retains differences. The same article number and the same batch do not turn solid wood into printed material.
What an oak set provides
-
expressive grain;
-
feeling of a solid array;
-
possibility to connect the staircase with the oak floor;
-
combination with doors, furniture, and panels;
-
emphasized turned geometry of L-055;
-
more noticeable play of light on the handrail and balusters.
What complicates oak
-
sorting of visible surfaces is needed;
-
a test stain is mandatory for a responsible project;
-
the shade depends on the composition;
-
end grains and longitudinal surfaces may perceive tinting differently;
-
individual slats may vary slightly;
-
a repeat batch may differ from the first one.
Order the entire set in one wood species
If the project involves a transparent or semi-transparent finish, it is reasonable to order the post, balusters, L-022, and handrail from oak in one agreed batch. A beech baluster within an oak row will differ even after attempting to match the color with stain.
Standard or Prestige: do not mix without understanding the result
L-055 is available in two sanding categories. L-052, L-054, and L-022 have their own confirmed preparation options that need to be checked in the product cards.
Standard
Standard includes machine processing and sanding. Areas may remain on the surface that require additional attention before a critical finish.
This option is suitable when:
-
the customer has their own carpentry or finishing workshop;
-
manual finishing is planned;
-
the product is coated with dense enamel;
-
the budget is compared with labor costs;
-
the craftsman is ready to inspect complex turned transitions.
Prestige
Prestige includes more detailed manual sanding of complex areas. Such preparation reduces the amount of finishing work, but does not eliminate inspection before coating.
Prestige is especially useful:
-
with semi-transparent finishes;
-
on visible turned transitions;
-
when there is no own sanding area;
-
for small batches;
-
when finishing is done directly on site;
-
under strict smoothness requirements.
Why you can't look only at the column
If L-055 is selected in Prestige, and the balusters have a different surface level, after coating the row may be perceived unevenly. The difference is evident not only visually, but also in the amount of preparatory work.
Before ordering, it is useful check the quality of sanding and re-gluing for all positions and record the selected categories in one list.
How to compile an order list
| Element | Article or category | Quantity | Material | Sanding | Preparation for finishing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starting column | L-055 | As per project | Beech or oak | Standard or Prestige | For enamel or tinting |
| Main line balusters | L-052 | By layout | Same species | By card | Same as the set |
| Smooth balusters | L-054 | By layout | Same species | By card | Same as the set |
| Finial | L-022 | By number of posts | Same species | By card | Same as the set |
| Handrail | Selected profile | According to the cutting map | Same species | By card | Same as the set |
| Handrail support detail | As per project | By length | Agreed material | By card | Same as the set |
| Fastening | As per project | kit | — | — | — |
| Installation materials | According to technology | By consumption | — | — | — |
| Finishing materials | By coating system | By consumption | — | — | Enamel or tinting |
The list must be filled not only with item numbers. The line "L-054 — 24 pcs." is insufficient. Without material and preparation, technically different parts can be ordered.
How many L-055 posts need to be added to the cart
One post in a photo does not mean one post in the project. The quantity depends on the configuration.
Need to calculate separately:
-
start of the first flight;
-
end of the first flight;
-
landing;
-
start of the next flight;
-
turn;
-
horizontal balustrade;
-
edge of the opening;
-
additional support points;
-
mirrored or symmetrical sections.
Starting column
On a simple staircase, there may be one noticeable L-055 at the bottom step. But if the railing starts from both sides, the project may require a pair.
Post at landing
Its position is determined by the direction of the handrail and the design of the platform. The lower node cannot be repeated automatically.
Post on balustrade
The horizontal railing has a different geometry. The height, abutment, and direction of the handrail are checked separately.
What to record on the plan
Each post is assigned a number:
-
C1;
-
C2;
-
C3;
-
C4.
Next to it, indicate:
-
article number;
-
handrail direction;
-
tip type;
-
material;
-
finishing;

How to calculate balusters without random excess
The exact quantity is provided by the design layout. The general principle looks like this:
The number of balusters on a section is determined by the section length, the design position of the end elements, and the set spacing.
You cannot use the formula without considering the actual axes. If you simply divide the handrail length by the chosen spacing, the end gaps may turn out different.
Initial data
For each section, you need:
-
distance between posts;
-
baluster width in the design plane;
-
position of the end axes;
-
number of gaps;
-
row type;
-
alternation of articles;
-
safety requirements;
-
Mounting method.
Step and part size are different values
A baluster size of 60 or 70 mm is not equal to the distance between its centers. There remains a gap between parts, and positioning is set by axes.
Reserve after calculation
Reserve can be added for:
-
trial finishing;
-
replacement of a damaged element;
-
oak sorting;
-
possible repair;
-
complex trimming.
But the reserve is added to the exact quantity, not instead of it.
What to buy together with the L-055 post
| Position | What it's for | When to add | What to Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balusters L-052 | Create a linked turned line | If a more expressive series is needed | Size, quantity, wood species, and finish |
| Balusters L-054 | Get a calm, smooth rhythm | For a concise fence or alternation | Row pattern and number of parts |
| Finial L-022 | Finish the top of the post | After checking drawing L-055 | Landing and scale |
| Handrail | Tie the fence on top | After designing the node | Profile, length, joints, and approach to the post |
| Handrail support strip | Connect the handrail to the balusters, if provided by the system | According to the selected profile | Compatibility with the handrail |
| Fastening | Secure the elements | Only by design node | Dimensions, material, and access to connection |
| Mounting materials | Perform assembly | After selecting technology | Compatibility with wood and coating |
| Finishing materials | Create a uniform color and protective layer | After selecting beech or oak | System of primer, color, and finish |
| Additional posts | Close turns and landings | According to the staircase plan | Height, direction, and abutment |
| Delivery | Get the entire set at once | After generating the report | Long cargo and unloading address |
All groups can be viewed in the section where they are collected Components for wooden staircase. Such a transition is useful after compiling the report: the buyer checks whether an entire category has been missed.
How L-055 differs from a random wooden post
A height of 1200 mm and a cross-section of about 100 mm are found in different blanks. This does not make them interchangeable.
L-055 differs:
-
specific turned profile;
-
confirmed materials;
-
choice of grinding;
-
options for re-gluing;
-
connection with L-052 and L-054;
-
recommendation L-022;
-
available drawing;
-
possibility to include the model in a system order.
A random column of similar height may have:
-
a different top platform;
-
a different lower section;
-
an unsuitable thickness;
-
different turning scale;
-
unknown humidity;
-
incompatible finish;
-
lack of connected balusters;
-
unpredictable handrail joint.
When to look at other wooden posts
L-055 does not have to fit every staircase. In the general section you can buy wooden stair posts with a different scale and character.
Another option is needed if:
-
height 1200 mm does not suit the project;
-
a larger cross-section is required;
-
the interior implies rich carving;
-
a square modern column is needed;
-
the handrail suits a different geometry;
-
a mirrored model is required;
-
the column must work in a special rotating joint;
-
L-055 is visually too restrained;
-
balusters from another series are already approved;
-
the existing staircase sets different mounting dimensions.
When to look at other balusters
L-052 and L-054 are recommended for the composition in question, but this is not a prohibition on other options. In the catalog, you can buying wooden balusters for stairs after checking the size, material, and style.
Another baluster may be needed if:
-
the project is already built around a different collection;
-
a flat carved piece is required;
-
the railing must be fully modern;
-
section L-052 or L-054 is not suitable;
-
a different scale is needed;
-
the interior requires intricate carving;
-
the balusters must match the existing staircase;
-
alternation is not provided for;
-
the structural joint requires a different geometry.
But the combination with L-055 must be drawn. Belonging to the STAVROS catalog alone is not enough for automatic compatibility.
Finial L-022 or another model
In this section you can select and buy wooden finials, if L-022 does not fit in scale or fit.
Another model is justified when:
-
a simpler top is needed;
-
more complex carving is required;
-
the interior contains a repeating motif;
-
the column is used in a non-standard composition;
-
the size range of L-022 is not suitable;
-
The top piece should repeat the decor of the door or furniture;
-
The project provides for a different shape.
At the same time, it is L-022 that remains the natural starting point, because it is listed among the related items to L-055.
How to align the handrail with L-052 and L-054
L-052 and L-054 differ in cross-sectional dimensions and the shape of the upper part. If they alternate, the system under the handrail must accept
Why ordering in one batch reduces the number of problems
One complete order does not guarantee an absolute match of each wooden slat, but it simplifies control.
The buyer gets the opportunity to:
- agree on one wood species;
- choose one preparation;
- check quantity before starting;
- get compatible products at the same time;
- compare parts before finishing;
- use one coating sample;
- do not look for a missing baluster after installation;
- arrange joint delivery;
- store a single set of documents.
Separate purchases increase the risk that one item remains in stock, while another will need to be waited for, or the subsequent batch will differ in visual appearance.
How to calculate the cost of a set without an outdated amount
Prices change, so the article does not fix the total cost. The buyer uses the formula:
Cost of pillars L-055
- Cost of L-052
- Cost of L-054
- Cost of finials L-022
- Cost of handrail and under-rail parts
- Fasteners
- Materials for installation
- Finishing materials
- Delivery
= total cost of fencing kit.
First quantity, then price
You cannot multiply the price of one baluster by an approximate number. First, the layout is approved, then the actual quantity is substituted into the formula.
Separate cost of goods and works
The budget may also include:
- design;
- measurement;
- trimming;
- installation;
- grinding;
- Painting;
- making test samples;
- packaging;
- lifting;
- storage;
- base correction.
The product card does not automatically include all these works.
Three configuration scenarios
A calm beech staircase under enamel
Contents:
- L-055 made of beech;
- L-054 made of beech;
- compact L-022;
- beech handrail;
- single preparation for enamel;
- fastening according to the project;
- primer and opaque coating.
This option is built on the silhouette, not on the wood grain.
Oak staircase with L-052
Contents:
- L-055 made of oak;
- L-052 made of oak;
- L-022 of the selected size;
- oak handrail;
- preparation for tinting;
- test paint sample;
- transparent or semi-transparent finish coating.
Here, the texture becomes part of the design.
Alternating L-052 and L-054
Contents:
- L-055;
- calculated quantity of L-052;
- calculated quantity of L-054;
- L-022;
- handrail;
- alternation scheme;
- one breed;
- one finishing system.
This scenario requires the most accurate bill of quantities.
How to order the development of a staircase composition
If the buyer cannot independently determine the number of posts, the spacing of balusters, the handrail turns, and the dimensions of the newel cap, it is better to order the development of a staircase project before purchasing the batch.
For the design, you will need:
- opening dimensions;
- room plan;
- floor-to-floor height;
- photos of the object;
- configuration of flights;
- dimensions of landings;
- desired style;
- selected wood species;
- intended finishing;
- information about the existing base;
- preferences for balusters;
- requirements for the handrail.
After approval, the project turns into a specification.
Drawings need to be opened before payment, not after delivery.
Schemes are available on product pages, and in a separate section you can download drawings of posts, balusters, and finials.
Drawings help to check:
- full height;
- cross-sectional dimension;
- position of decorative zones;
- top platform;
- lower section;
- dimension labels L-022;
- possibility of abutment;
- scale of details next to each other.
Values A, B, C, and E cannot be assigned by guesswork. Their meaning is determined by the specific drawing.
Errors that prevent the kit from being assembled
Error 1. Buying only L-055
A post does not replace balusters, handrail, finial, and fasteners.
Error 2. Counting balusters approximately
There will be a shortage or a large number of unnecessary parts on site.
Error 3. Not separating L-052 and L-054 in the list
The alternation will be disrupted.
Error 4. Choosing the order during installation
The rhythm will be random.
Error 5. Consider the first size L-022 as a landing size
The designation must be read according to the drawing.
Error 6. Choose the finial only by price
The scale may not fit L-055.
Error 7. Consider 96 mm as an automatic match with a 100 mm column
The proximity of numbers does not confirm the fit.
Error 8. Buy the handrail only by color
The profile may not match the under-rail assembly.
Error 9. Do not calculate the handrail joints
The long-length material will not be sufficient.
Error 10. Not accounting for the turn
A straight profile won't solve a complex joint automatically.
Error 11. Ordering oak posts but beech balusters
With a transparent finish, the difference will be noticeable.
Error 12. Mixing preparation for enamel and for staining
Surfaces are designed for different finishing scenarios.
Error 13. Not checking the sanding
The amount of manual preparation will turn out to be unexpected.
Error 14. Mixing Standard and Prestige without a plan
After finishing, surfaces may be perceived differently.
Error 15. Painting before fitting
Trimming will damage the finished coating.
Error 16. Assembling the entire row without a test knot
The joint error will repeat on all balusters.
Error 17. Not numbering the parts
After sorting, the oak elements will get mixed up.
Error 18. Not marking the front sides
The best pattern will end up facing inward.
Error 19. Storing the handrail incorrectly
The long piece may suffer damage or deformation.
Error 20. Not accounting for delivery
The handrail determines the dimensions of the shipment.
Error 21. Ordering in batches without necessity
Shade and availability may change.
Error 22. Not checking all cards before payment
One material or preparation option may differ.
Error 23. Considering the stair post only as decor
It is part of the railing design assembly.
Error 24. Assigning fasteners independently based on a photo
The hidden structure is unknown.
Error 25. Using assembly adhesive instead of a calculated joint
Adhesive does not replace the mounting design.
Error 26. Not checking the base
Beautiful elements will not fix a weak staircase structure.
Error 27. Making the same joint at the beginning of the flight and on the landing
The direction of the handrail differs.
Error 28. Not accounting for the final height with the finial
Large L-022 increases the overall dimension.
Error 29. Considering L-052 and L-054 identical due to the 1000 mm height
The shape and cross-sectional size differ.
Error 30. Buying reserve instead of calculation
Reserve does not fix an incorrect scheme.
Error 31. Not agreeing on the handrail finish
It will turn out to be a different shade.
Error 32. Using different test swatches
The set will lose its color integrity.
Error 33. Not checking parts upon receipt
Problems will be discovered after trimming and painting.
Error 34. Installing finials before fitting the handrail
The top joint may become inaccessible.
Error 35. Cannot save drawings and specification
The repeat order will be assembled from memory.

- Standard or Prestige selection is required;
- the handrail node can be checked;
- L-022 matches the drawing;
- the entire set is ordered as one system;
- the quantity is calculated according to the project.
When to choose a different column
Another option is needed if:
- size L-055 does not match the project;
- rich carving is required;
- a completely smooth square column is needed;
- the existing balusters belong to a different collection;
- The top part does not fit the handrail;
- The staircase requires a special turning element;
- A mirrored post is needed;
- The finish must replicate an existing part;
- The landing area has a different size;
- The designer specified a different article number.

FAQ: questions about column L-055 and stair kit
What size does column L-055 have?
The size of L-055 is 1200 × 100 mm. For installation, you need to use the full drawing, not just two dimensions.
What wood species is L-055 made from?
The card includes beech and oak.
What to choose for opaque enamel?
For this scenario, beech with enamel preparation is usually chosen, and the remaining elements are ordered in the same system.
What to choose for transparent tinting?
Oak with tinting preparation helps preserve the visible wood grain pattern.
Can I order oak under enamel?
The available combination of characteristics should be checked in the card. At the same time, an opaque coating will hide a significant part of the texture.
How does Standard differ from Prestige?
Standard is based on machine surface preparation, Prestige includes more detailed manual sanding of complex areas.
Does Prestige need to be refined before painting?
Before coating, inspection, dust removal, and preparation according to the selected material's technology are still carried out.
Which balusters are recommended for L-055?
In combination, L-052 and smooth turned L-054 are considered.
What is the size of L-052?
The size of L-052 is 1000 × 60 mm.
What is the size of L-054?
The size of L-054 is 1000 × 70 mm.
Can only L-052 be used?
Yes, if the row is calculated and matches the project.
Yes. This option creates a calmer rhythm.
Is it mandatory to alternate L-052 and L-054?
No. Alternation is one of the possible scenarios, not a mandatory condition.
No. Alternation is one of the possible scenarios, not a mandatory condition.
How to choose the order of alternation?
You need to draw each section and check the beginning, center, and end of the row.
How many balusters are needed for a staircase?
The quantity is determined by the project length of sections, the step, the position of posts, and safety requirements.
Can balusters be counted only by the length of the handrail?
No. You need to consider the axes of the outermost elements, the width of the balusters, and individual sections of the railing.
Is a reserve of balusters needed?
A small reserve can be useful, but it is added after an accurate calculation.
Which finial is suitable for L-055?
L-022 is indicated as an accompanying model, but the specific size is selected according to the drawing.
What sizes does L-022 have?
96 × 48 × 60 × 78 mm, 127 × 64 × 80 × 104 mm, 150 × 77 × 96 × 125 mm and 181 × 97 × 120 × 156 mm.
Do I need to choose L-022 size 96 mm for a 100 mm post?
Not necessarily. The first number should not automatically be considered the mounting size.
How to check the fit of the cap?
Compare the drawings of L-022 and L-055 and clarify the design connection method.
Can I install a large L-022?
Yes, if the fit is suitable and the large scale matches the composition.
How many caps should I order?
One for each post that requires such a finish, unless the project specifies otherwise.
Is the cap included in the cost of the post?
No. This is a separate product item.
Is the handrail included in the L-055 set?
No. The profile and length of the handrail are selected separately.
Which handrail is needed for the L-055?
The one that matches the grip shape, bottom node, length, and connection to the post.
Can the handrail be chosen by color?
No. First, structural compatibility is checked, then material and finish.
Is a handrail bracket needed?
This depends on the selected handrail profile and the railing design.
Can one handrail be used for both the flight and the landing?
Possibly, but the turn and joint must be calculated in the project.
How to calculate the length of a handrail?
For each section separately, taking into account standard lengths, joints, trimming, and reserve.
Can L-055 be installed on an existing staircase?
Only after checking the base, dimensions, handrail height, and mounting assembly.
Is L-055 suitable for a modern staircase?
Its restrained turned shape can be used in a calm modern or transitional composition if it is coordinated with the other details.
Is L-055 suitable for a classic interior?
Yes, especially with L-052, L-054, and L-022 in a coordinated finish.
Can beech and oak be mixed?
For a transparent finish, such mixing usually creates a noticeable difference. For enamel, the solution must also be technologically justified.
Do I need to order everything in one batch?
For coordinating material, quantity, and timelines, this is the most convenient way.
Can oak parts differ in shade?
Yes. Natural wood retains variability even within a single order.
How to achieve a uniform color?
Use one finishing system and pre-approve a test sample.
When should the parts be painted?
After a preliminary fitting and before final assembly, or using a combined finisher's technique.
Can an already assembled staircase be painted?
Yes, but access to internal surfaces will be more difficult.
What fasteners are needed?
Fasteners are determined by the design node, the base, and the drawings.
Can I use only glue?
Adhesive cannot be considered a universal replacement for mechanical fastening without calculation.
Where can I get the drawings?
They are available in the product cards and in the STAVROS catalog and drawings section.
What to check upon receipt?
Article numbers, quantity, material, sanding, preparation, dimensions, and packaging condition.
How should balusters be stored before installation?
In stable conditions, separately by article and area, protected from moisture, heating devices, and damage.
Can I order one L-054 later?
Yes, if available, but the new batch may differ slightly in wood.
How do I order a set with delivery?
Prepare a specification, check the characteristics of each item, and arrange delivery for the entire order.
What should I do if I cannot calculate the quantity?
Before purchasing, order design or contact us to select a kit based on stair drawings.
From one post to a complete kit
L-055 should be chosen not as a separate beautiful wooden post, but as the start of a specification. Its size is 1200 × 100 mm; the wood species, sanding, and preparation for finishing set the parameters for the entire future basket.
If a related turned row is needed, L-052 is added. For a calmer railing, smooth L-054 is suitable. Alternating the two models is possible, but the sequence must be drawn in advance. The finial L-022 is chosen not by how close the first number is to the post size, but by the drawing of the seating part and the visual scale. The handrail is checked by profile, bottom joint, length, turns, and the method of approaching the post.
Beech is reasonable to consider for a kit under opaque enamel. Oak is for a project where the texture remains visible after tinting or transparent finishing. The Standard and Prestige categories also need to be coordinated across all elements so that surface preparation does not become unexpected work already at the site.
Before payment, it is necessary to compile a list: posts, L-052, L-054, L-022, handrail, under-rail elements, fasteners, installation and finishing materials. After checking the project, you can order post L-055 in beech or oak together with all parts as one coordinated batch.
STAVROS helps transition from choosing one model to a complete purchase. In one catalog, you can compare posts, balusters, finials, and handrails, open drawings, choose the wood species and surface preparation, order materials for further work, and arrange delivery. The buyer receives not a random set of wooden products, but the basis for a stair railing in which each part occupies a predetermined place.
