Primed MDF Molding MLD-004-MG
Dimensions and Options
Description
A compact primed MDF molding measuring 15 × 8 mm with a quarter-circle profile. The smooth convex line makes the relief more pronounced than on thinner models while maintaining a neat scale. The strip length is 2600 mm.
The profile is suitable for wall frames and decorative panels where a more defined contour is required. It can be used for rectangular compositions, dividing decorative fields, and creating rhythmic linear elements on the wall.
When ordering up to 65 pieces, a pine backing (390 rubles) is added to the invoice — it provides a rigid frame for safe transportation of your goods.

Primed MDF Molding MLD-004-MG for Wall Frames and Decorative Panels
MLD-004-MG is a primed MDF molding designed for decorative wall frames, applied panel molding, furniture fronts, built-ins, doors, and other painted interior details.
Its 0.59 × 0.31 in (15 × 8 mm) profile is noticeably more substantial than an ultra-narrow trim, yet still compact enough for detailed wall compositions. Each molding is supplied in a 102.36 in (2600 mm) length.
That combination gives MLD-004-MG a useful role in interior design: it can form the primary outline of a picture-frame wall panel, work as part of a layered molding composition, or provide a defined decorative border on cabinetry and furniture.
The profile is made from MDF and supplied in the Prestige Primed finish, providing a prepared surface for the final painted treatment specified for the project.
Why Choose a 15 × 8 mm MDF Molding?
Profile size changes the way wall molding is perceived.
A very narrow molding creates a fine line. A substantially wider profile becomes an architectural feature in its own right. At 15 mm wide and 8 mm deep, MLD-004-MG sits between those two extremes.
The profile has enough presence to define a wall frame clearly without creating the visual mass of a large molding.
This makes it particularly useful for:
-
picture-frame molding on walls;
-
decorative wall panel layouts;
-
accent walls;
-
repeated rectangular frames;
-
inner and outer borders in layered compositions;
-
cabinetry and furniture fronts;
-
decorative door panels;
-
built-in furniture;
-
combinations with compatible decorative molding elements.
For a simple wall treatment, MLD-004-MG can be used by itself.
For a more detailed architectural composition, it can be paired with narrower or wider profiles so each line has a distinct visual role.
MDF Wall Molding for Picture-Frame Panels
Picture frame wall molding is one of the most practical applications for MLD-004-MG.
Instead of covering the wall with solid panels, linear molding is installed directly on the wall to define rectangular or square fields. The existing wall surface remains visible inside each frame.
MLD-004-MG creates a more pronounced outline than an extremely narrow 10 mm profile, making it useful when the frame itself needs to remain clearly visible from across the room.
Possible layouts include:
-
one large frame behind a bed;
-
symmetrical frames behind a sofa;
-
repeated panels along a dining-room wall;
-
tall narrow frames in a hallway;
-
paired panels around a console or fireplace;
-
full-wall geometric compositions;
-
double-frame designs using more than one molding size.
This approach can add architectural structure without requiring a complete wood paneling system.
The effect comes from proportion, repetition, spacing, and shadow rather than from ornament alone.
Panel Molding for Walls: The Molding Defines the Architecture
The phrase panel molding for walls often refers to molding applied around a decorative field rather than to a solid wall panel.
MLD-004-MG can be used in exactly this way.
The profile establishes the perimeter. The painted wall, wallpaper, decorative finish, or other selected background becomes the field inside that perimeter.
This gives the designer considerable freedom.
The interior of the frame can match the surrounding wall for a restrained monochromatic composition. It can also receive another paint color, wallpaper, or another compatible decorative finish when stronger contrast is desired.
Because MLD-004-MG has a 15 mm face, the border remains visually readable without requiring an oversized profile.
MLD-004-MG as the Main Wall-Frame Profile
MLD-004-MG is particularly useful when a narrow molding needs to perform the role of the main frame, not merely a secondary detail.
The 15 × 8 mm cross-section creates a stronger line than the smaller MLD-001-MG profile while remaining compact enough for repeated wall panels.
That distinction matters on larger walls.
If a very fine molding is used around a large rectangle, the profile may appear delicate from normal viewing distance. MLD-004-MG provides greater visual definition while retaining the refined scale needed for picture-frame and panel-molding layouts.
It can therefore work well for medium-size and large frames where the goal is architectural structure rather than heavy trim.
Create a Layered Wall Molding Composition
A single frame produces one level of relief.
Two profiles can create a much richer effect.
MLD-004-MG can establish the primary frame while a narrower molding creates an additional inner contour. Alternatively, a wider profile can form the outside boundary and MLD-004-MG can become the secondary line.
The key is hierarchy.
Avoid choosing several profiles that all have nearly the same visual weight. A composition is generally easier to read when one molding establishes the principal boundary and the other adds detail.
Before laying out the wall, compare the actual width and projection of every selected profile.
Changing the molding after the frame dimensions have been finalized can change the visible field inside the panel and alter the proportions of the entire composition.
Explore the complete STAVROS molding collection before determining the final frame dimensions.
Part of the STAVROS 004 Decorative System
MLD-004-MG is more useful than a generic strip of MDF because it belongs to the STAVROS 004 profile family.
The same nominal 15 × 8 × 2600 mm profile is also available as MLDPU-004 polyurethane molding.
STAVROS also uses the 004 profile with coordinated polyurethane decorative elements in complete wall compositions.
This gives designers another way to approach the project.
Straight runs can use the specified molding profile while compatible decorative pieces can introduce ornament at selected corners or focal areas.
The result can range from a simple rectangular frame to a much more elaborate wall composition.
When adding decorative elements, select components by the compatible series and actual dimensions rather than simply choosing pieces that look similar in photographs.
MDF and Polyurethane in the Same Decorative Composition
A wall composition does not necessarily need every component to be made from the same material.
STAVROS wall-decor systems use primed MDF linear molding together with polyurethane decorative pieces in some compositions. The important requirement is that the elements are dimensionally and visually coordinated.
For example, MLD-004-MG can provide the straight linear structure of a frame while compatible polyurethane pieces create ornamental corners or accents.
Once the complete assembly receives its specified finish, the design can be read primarily as one decorative composition rather than as unrelated individual components.
This is particularly useful when the project calls for long straight frame sections combined with more detailed relief elements.
Explore STAVROS molding decor when planning a more ornamental system around the 004 profile.
A Primed MDF Molding for Painted Interiors
MLD-004-MG is supplied in the Prestige Primed finish.
For a painted interior, this provides a prepared base for the finishing process.
After installation, inspect the molding, joints, mitered corners, and fixing points. Complete any required filling or surface preparation, remove dust, and apply the selected coating according to the paint manufacturer's instructions.
This is especially important when the molding and wall are intended to read as one continuous surface.
When both are painted the same color, the molding becomes visible primarily through projection, highlights, and shadow. The result can feel architectural without creating strong color contrast.
Painting the molding in a contrasting color gives the frame a much stronger graphic presence.
The same MLD-004-MG profile can therefore produce very different results depending on the finishing strategy.
Same-Color Wall Molding
Painting MDF wall molding the same color as the wall is particularly effective when the design should feel integrated rather than applied.
The molding establishes geometry while the color remains continuous.
During the day, natural light reveals the 8 mm projection through changing highlights and shadows. Under artificial lighting, the molding can create a more defined or softer line depending on light direction.
This approach works particularly well for:
-
contemporary interiors;
-
transitional interiors;
-
restrained neoclassical rooms;
-
monochromatic bedrooms;
-
dining rooms;
-
hallways;
-
living-room accent walls.
The architectural detail remains visible without requiring a contrasting decorative color.
Contrasting Decorative Wall Molding
Contrast changes the role of the profile.
A dark decorative wall molding against a light wall makes every frame clearly graphic.
A lighter molding against a deep wall color produces a similarly strong boundary.
This approach can work where the molding layout itself is intended to become a focal feature.
Before choosing contrast, remember that repeated frames multiply the amount of visible line in a room. A color combination that looks subtle on a short sample can become much stronger when extended across several walls.
Evaluate both profile size and color at room scale whenever possible.
MDF Molding for Accent Walls
MLD-004-MG can also function as accent wall molding.
Instead of creating an accent only through paint or wallpaper, molding adds physical depth to the surface.
A bedroom wall might use one wide central panel aligned with the bed and narrower panels on either side.
A living room could use several equal frames aligned with a sofa or console.
A dining room might use repeated panels across a long uninterrupted wall.
A hallway can use narrower vertical frames to establish rhythm.
In each case, the molding organizes the surface rather than simply decorating an empty wall.
MLD-004-MG is useful for this role because its 15 mm width remains visible while still allowing generous open space between neighboring frames.
Using MLD-004-MG on Furniture and Cabinetry
The profile can also be considered for suitably designed furniture, cabinetry, doors, and built-ins.
A primed MDF molding can introduce a framed detail on an otherwise flat painted facade.
Potential applications include:
-
cabinet doors;
-
wardrobe fronts;
-
built-in cabinetry;
-
decorative furniture panels;
-
interior door panels;
-
custom millwork.
The dimensions of the surface matter.
A 15 mm molding occupies much more of a cabinet front than it does of a full wall. For that reason, furniture layouts should be designed independently rather than reduced copies of wall layouts.
Before installation, check clearances around handles, hinges, edges, adjacent doors, and other hardware.
Design the Wall Around Fixed Architectural Features
A good molding layout begins with the real wall.
Before establishing frame dimensions, measure:
-
wall width and height;
-
door and window openings;
-
existing casing;
-
baseboards;
-
outlets;
-
switches;
-
built-in furniture;
-
permanent fixtures.
These elements determine the usable wall fields.
Do not force identical frames onto wall sections with substantially different dimensions.
In many rooms, maintaining consistent spacing between frames produces a more convincing result than making every panel exactly the same width.
For example, a large central frame and two narrower side frames can appear balanced when their top, bottom, and side clearances follow the same design logic.
Picture Frame Molding Spacing
Spacing is often more important than the exact width of each frame.
When several rectangles are installed side by side, decide on a consistent relationship between:
-
frame and baseboard;
-
frame and ceiling or crown molding;
-
adjacent frames;
-
frame and door casing;
-
frame and window casing;
-
molding and surrounding furniture.
Avoid adjusting every gap independently.
A repeated spacing rule creates visual rhythm and makes differently sized panels feel related.
Painter's tape can be useful for previewing a wall layout before cutting the actual molding.
Because MLD-004-MG is 15 mm wide, mark the approximate visible profile width rather than drawing only a single pencil centerline. This provides a more realistic impression of the completed composition.
How Much MLD-004-MG Do You Need?
Calculate molding from the perimeter of every planned frame.
For a rectangular frame:
Required molding = 2 × width + 2 × height
For example, a wall frame measuring 40 × 64 in has a perimeter of:
40 + 64 + 40 + 64 = 208 linear inches
Two identical frames require:
208 × 2 = 416 linear inches
Each MLD-004-MG length measures 102.36 in.
The theoretical quantity is therefore:
416 ÷ 102.36 = approximately 4.06 lengths
That immediately means at least five full lengths are required before accounting for the actual cut plan.
However, total linear footage should never be the only calculation.
Why Linear Footage Alone Can Be Misleading
Molding is purchased in fixed stock lengths.
A project can have enough total linear footage and still run short if the remaining offcuts cannot produce the longer pieces required by the design.
Suppose several frames require 64-inch vertical sides.
A 102.36-inch length cannot provide two 64-inch pieces, even though 128 inches may be included within a larger total-footage calculation.
That is why a cut list is more reliable than a single linear-foot figure.
Record every required horizontal and vertical piece, group those cuts into the available 102.36-inch lengths, and then add an appropriate project allowance for miter cuts, saw kerf, test pieces, and unforeseen damage.
For repeated wall panels, this also helps ensure that the longest pieces are reserved before shorter sections are cut.
Planning Mitered Corners
Rectangular molding frames commonly use mitered joints.
Before cutting all of the material, make a test corner from offcuts and confirm how the MLD-004-MG profile meets at 45 degrees.
Also define exactly what the dimensions on your drawing represent.
They may describe:
-
the outside dimensions of the frame;
-
the inside clear opening;
-
or the molding centerline.
Do not switch between these reference systems during installation.
With multiple frames on one wall, a small measurement difference repeated several times can become visually obvious.
MLD-004-MG or a Narrower MDF Profile?
Choose according to the visual role of the molding.
A narrower profile is useful when the design needs a very delicate line or a secondary contour.
MLD-004-MG, at 15 × 8 mm, offers more presence and can work effectively as a principal frame in many wall-panel layouts.
For a large composition, MLD-004-MG can also be combined with another profile rather than asking one molding to provide every level of detail.
The correct choice depends on:
-
overall wall dimensions;
-
frame dimensions;
-
viewing distance;
-
number of repeated panels;
-
surrounding trim;
-
furniture scale;
-
whether the profile is primary or secondary.
This is why comparing actual cross-sections is more useful than choosing molding from photographs alone.
MLD-004-MG or MLDPU-004?
STAVROS offers both MLD-004-MG in MDF and MLDPU-004 in polyurethane with the same nominal profile dimensions of 15 × 8 × 2600 mm.
This allows the profile geometry to be considered separately from the material.
Choose the material according to the requirements of the specific project, installation location, finishing system, substrate, and adjoining decorative components.
If the project calls specifically for MDF and a primed painted finish, MLD-004-MG is the corresponding 004-series option.
If the specification requires polyurethane, compare the MLDPU-004 polyurethane molding.
Do not substitute one material for another solely because the visible dimensions match.
Can MLD-004-MG Be Used for Picture Frame Wall Molding?
Yes. Its 0.59 × 0.31 in (15 × 8 mm) profile makes it particularly suitable for framed wall compositions where the molding needs more presence than an ultra-fine trim.
It can create complete rectangular frames by itself or form one level of a multi-profile composition.
For very large panels or highly architectural interiors, compare its scale with wider STAVROS profiles before finalizing the design.
Can It Be Painted the Same Color as the Wall?
Yes, MLD-004-MG is supplied primed and is intended for a finished painted composition.
A same-color treatment emphasizes profile depth and shadow rather than color contrast.
Prepare joints and fixing points as required and follow the final coating manufacturer's preparation and application instructions.
Is MLD-004-MG a Crown Molding or Baseboard?
No.
MLD-004-MG is a linear decorative molding for frames, panels, furniture detailing, and related interior applications.
It should not be treated as a substitute for a purpose-designed crown molding at the ceiling or a baseboard at floor level.
Keeping those product types separate helps both the buyer and the search engine understand exactly what this page offers.
Why Choose MLD-004-MG?
Choose MLD-004-MG when the project requires a primed MDF molding with a defined but restrained 15 × 8 mm profile.
It is especially useful when you need:
-
an MDF wall molding with more presence than an ultra-narrow profile;
-
a main border for picture-frame molding;
-
panel molding for painted walls;
-
a profile for layered wall compositions;
-
decorative trim for furniture or cabinetry;
-
compatibility with the broader STAVROS 004 design system;
-
a paintable molding supplied in 102.36-inch lengths.
The best result starts before installation.
Select the profile, establish the wall geometry, calculate every frame, prepare a cut list, and decide whether MLD-004-MG will act as the main molding or one layer within a larger composition.
Then compare additional STAVROS moldings and compatible wall decor to build the complete system around the dimensions of the actual project.
MLD-004-MG is not simply a strip of primed MDF. Its 15 × 8 mm geometry gives it a specific architectural role: a clear, controlled frame line that can organize a wall, panel, cabinet front, or complete decorative composition.
