Description

An expressive primed MDF moulding measuring 22 × 11 mm features a smooth convex profile with a rounded central section. This geometry creates a pronounced interplay of light and shadow and reads clearly on the wall while maintaining neat proportions. The strip length is 2600 mm.

The moulding is suitable for wall frames, decorative panels, and defining individual fields on the wall. Its larger scale compared to thin profiles allows it to be used as the main outline of a framed composition or combined with narrower elements.

When ordering up to 35 pcs., a pine backing (390 rubles) is added to the invoice — it provides a rigid frame for safe transportation of your goods.

Primed MDF Molding MLD-002-MG for Wall Panels, Picture Frames and Interior Millwork

MLD-002-MG is a primed MDF molding designed for decorative wall frames, applied panel molding, accent walls, furniture, cabinetry, doors, built-ins, and other painted interior details.

The profile measures 0.87 × 0.43 in (22 × 11 mm) and is supplied in 102.36 in (2600 mm) lengths. Its proportions give MLD-002-MG substantially more visual presence than a very narrow trim profile, making it particularly useful when the molding needs to define the main architectural boundary of a decorative panel rather than act only as a secondary detail.

The combination of a 22 mm face and 11 mm projection creates a clearly readable molding line while remaining compact enough for repeated wall-frame compositions.

MLD-002-MG can be used for:

  • picture-frame molding on walls;

  • decorative wall-panel layouts;

  • accent walls;

  • primary borders around applied panels;

  • layered and double-frame molding compositions;

  • furniture and cabinet fronts;

  • built-in cabinetry;

  • decorative interior doors;

  • coordinated STAVROS wall-decor systems.

The profile is manufactured from MDF and supplied in the Prestige Primed finish, providing a prepared surface for the final painted treatment specified for the project.

Why Choose a 22 × 11 mm MDF Molding?

Molding dimensions have a direct effect on how a finished wall is perceived.

An ultra-narrow profile creates a fine line. A very large profile becomes a dominant architectural element. MLD-002-MG occupies a useful position between those extremes.

At 22 mm / 0.87 in wide, the molding has enough visible surface to establish a definite frame.

At 11 mm / 0.43 in deep, it creates enough projection for light and shadow to reveal the profile even when the molding and wall are finished in the same color.

This makes MLD-002-MG particularly useful as an MDF wall molding when a 10 or 15 mm profile would be too delicate for the scale of the room or the dimensions of the planned panel.

The profile can stand alone as the main frame or become one level within a more complex molding system.

MDF Wall Molding for Architectural Wall Frames

A decorative wall does not need to be covered with solid panels to gain architectural structure.

Applied molding can divide a flat surface into deliberately proportioned fields.

MLD-002-MG can create:

  • one large centered frame;

  • two symmetrical frames;

  • three-panel compositions;

  • repeated vertical wall frames;

  • wide center panels with narrower side sections;

  • full-wall geometric layouts;

  • double-frame compositions using two molding sizes.

The existing wall remains the main field inside the frame. The molding creates the perimeter and introduces physical depth.

This approach makes decorative wall molding useful in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

The same 22 × 11 mm profile can look classical when combined with several decorative elements, or restrained and modern when used in a small number of large geometric frames.

The profile does not determine the style by itself.

Proportion, spacing, color, and the surrounding architecture determine the final effect.

A Strong Profile for Picture Frame Wall Molding

MLD-002-MG is particularly well suited to picture frame wall molding where the decorative border needs more presence than a very fine profile can provide.

Picture-frame molding uses rectangular or square molding frames applied directly to the wall.

The frame may surround artwork, a mirror, wallpaper, a different paint color, or simply an empty section of wall.

In many interiors, the molding itself is the decoration.

The 22 mm face of MLD-002-MG makes it suitable for medium and large frames because the border remains clearly visible at normal room viewing distance.

For example, it can be used:

  • behind a sofa;

  • behind a headboard;

  • on a dining-room feature wall;

  • around a console;

  • in an entry hall;

  • along a hallway;

  • around selected decorative wall fields.

A large frame usually benefits from a more defined profile than a small furniture panel, so molding size should always be judged relative to the surface it surrounds.

Use MLD-002-MG as the Main Panel Molding

One of the strongest roles for MLD-002-MG is as the main profile of an applied panel.

Its dimensions give it enough visual weight to form the principal boundary without automatically requiring a second molding.

This can be useful when a room needs clear architectural structure but the design should remain restrained.

For example, three large rectangles made entirely with MLD-002-MG can create a complete wall composition.

No ornamental corners or secondary profiles are required unless the design calls for additional detail.

This simplicity can work especially well in:

  • transitional interiors;

  • contemporary classical rooms;

  • monochromatic interiors;

  • bedrooms;

  • living rooms;

  • dining rooms;

  • home offices.

The emphasis remains on geometry rather than excessive ornament.

Panel Molding for Walls Without Solid Panels

The phrase panel molding for walls is sometimes misunderstood.

A panel-molding installation does not necessarily require a separate solid wall panel.

The molding itself can define the perimeter of the panel directly on the existing wall.

MLD-002-MG provides the architectural line. The surface inside the frame can remain painted drywall, plaster, wallpaper, or another properly specified interior finish.

This allows designers to create the visual rhythm of traditional paneling without treating every decorative field as a separate board or sheet product.

The result can be particularly effective when the molding and background are painted in one color.

The geometry remains visible through projection and shadow, while the continuous color prevents the wall from becoming visually fragmented.

MLD-002-MG in Layered Wall Frames

A 22 × 11 mm profile also works well in a layered composition.

Instead of relying on one molding size for every line, assign different profiles different roles.

MLD-002-MG can establish the main frame.

A narrower molding can then create an inner contour.

The resulting hierarchy becomes:

main MDF molding → spacing → fine inner molding → wall field

This creates more depth than simply repeating profiles of similar scale.

MLD-002-MG is particularly useful here because its size clearly distinguishes it from narrower profiles such as MLD-001-MG.

The larger profile establishes the architectural structure.

The smaller profile introduces finer detail.

That distinction makes a layered wall easier to read from across the room.

MLD-002-MG as the Middle Level of a Three-Profile System

MLD-002-MG also has a documented role inside more elaborate STAVROS wall systems.

When several molding sizes are used together, MLD-002-MG can function as the middle level between a finer inner profile and a larger outer profile.

This is an important design role.

In a three-level frame, the profiles should not compete equally for attention.

The largest profile establishes the outer architectural boundary.

The middle profile reinforces the hierarchy and adds another layer.

The smallest molding finishes the composition with a fine inner contour.

MLD-002-MG's 22 × 11 mm dimensions make it particularly suitable for this intermediate position.

For designers creating more complex wall paneling, this is more useful information than describing the product only as “decorative molding.”

Build the Composition Around Actual Profile Widths

Select the molding before finalizing the panel dimensions.

A 22 mm profile occupies more wall area than a 10 mm molding.

This changes:

  • the clear opening inside the frame;

  • the space between neighboring frames;

  • the distance from the frame to door casing;

  • the distance from molding to baseboard;

  • the relationship between nested profiles.

If the design is drawn around a very thin molding and later changed to MLD-002-MG, the finished panels can feel noticeably tighter.

The molding profile should therefore be part of the original dimensional planning rather than a decorative choice made after the wall layout is complete.

Decorative Wall Molding for Accent Walls

MLD-002-MG is also a strong choice for an accent wall molding layout.

An accent wall does not need to depend on wallpaper, paneling, or a contrasting paint color.

Raised molding can create the focal effect through geometry.

A bedroom might use one large central frame aligned with the bed.

A living room might use a wide center panel behind the sofa and narrow side frames.

A dining room can repeat a sequence of vertical rectangles.

A home office may use one large architectural frame behind a desk.

Because MLD-002-MG projects 11 mm from the surface, light creates a visible change in depth around the molding.

This means a monochromatic wall can still have significant architectural definition.

Paint the Molding the Same Color as the Wall

A same-color finish is one of the most effective treatments for MDF wall molding.

Instead of outlining the molding through color contrast, the design relies on physical relief.

The result can be restrained from a distance while becoming more detailed as the viewer approaches.

This technique works particularly well with a profile such as MLD-002-MG because its 11 mm depth creates a clear shadow line.

It can help produce a wall that feels architecturally developed without requiring multiple colors.

Before the final coating is applied, joints, fixing points, and cut edges should be prepared according to the requirements of the installation and selected finishing system.

Follow the coating manufacturer's instructions for the final paint application.

Or Use Contrast for a More Graphic Wall

MLD-002-MG can also be given a contrasting final finish.

A darker molding against a lighter wall makes the geometry immediately visible.

A light molding against a deep wall color creates an equally strong graphic effect.

The larger the number of frames, the stronger this effect becomes.

For that reason, color should be judged on the full wall layout rather than from a short molding sample.

A treatment that looks subtle on one 12-inch sample may become visually dominant once dozens of linear feet are repeated around the room.

A Primed MDF Molding for Painted Interior Projects

MLD-002-MG is supplied as Prestige Primed MDF.

The factory-applied primer provides a prepared base for the finishing sequence, but installation should still be treated as part of the final surface-preparation process.

After installation:

  • inspect mitered joints;

  • prepare fixing points where necessary;

  • address cut edges as required;

  • remove sanding and construction dust;

  • follow the final coating manufacturer's preparation instructions.

This is especially important when several molding lengths need to appear as one continuous architectural line.

The quality of the finished wall depends not only on the factory molding but also on accurate cutting, joint preparation, installation, and final coating.

MDF Molding for Furniture and Cabinetry

The 22 × 11 mm profile can also be used for appropriately designed furniture and built-in millwork.

On a wall, 22 mm is a relatively restrained molding width.

On a cabinet door, wardrobe front, or furniture panel, the same dimension becomes much more visually significant.

MLD-002-MG can therefore create a strong framed detail on:

  • cabinet doors;

  • wardrobe fronts;

  • built-ins;

  • furniture panels;

  • decorative interior doors;

  • wall-integrated cabinetry;

  • other painted millwork.

The frame should be designed around the actual panel dimensions.

Do not simply reduce a wall-frame layout proportionally.

Furniture has its own scale and functional constraints.

Check Hardware and Clearances on Furniture

Before using molding on cabinetry or doors, mark the position of all functional elements.

Check:

  • hinges;

  • handles;

  • pulls;

  • panel joints;

  • neighboring doors;

  • drawer fronts;

  • edge clearances;

  • opening paths.

The most visually centered molding frame is not always the most practical one.

A good furniture composition needs to respect both appearance and operation.

This is particularly important when identical decorative frames must be repeated across several cabinet fronts.

Plan Wall Molding Around Doors and Windows

A wall-molding composition should respond to the room that actually exists.

Before determining frame dimensions, measure:

  • wall width and height;

  • door openings;

  • window openings;

  • existing casing;

  • baseboards;

  • ceiling trim;

  • switches;

  • outlets;

  • built-ins;

  • permanent fixtures.

Then decide which architectural or furniture element should control the composition.

In a bedroom, the bed may establish the center.

In a living room, that may be the sofa, fireplace, or media area.

In a dining room, the strongest reference may be the center of an uninterrupted wall.

The molding should organize these elements rather than ignore them.

Equal Spacing Is Often More Important Than Equal Frames

Not every panel needs to be the same width.

Real rooms are rarely perfectly symmetrical.

A doorway may create a narrow wall section. A window can interrupt a sequence. Furniture may shift the visual center of the room.

In these situations, forcing every molding frame to be identical can create awkward leftover spaces.

Instead, establish consistent relationships.

For example:

  • maintain equal gaps between adjacent frames;

  • keep consistent distance from door casing;

  • align the tops and bottoms of neighboring frames;

  • use a repeated distance above the baseboard;

  • center major frames on important furniture.

Different-width panels can still feel intentional when the spacing system remains consistent.

Test the 22 mm Width Before Ordering

Product photographs can make it difficult to judge molding scale accurately.

MLD-002-MG has a visible face of approximately 0.87 in / 22 mm.

Before ordering material for a large wall, mock up the proposed molding width with painter's tape.

Do not mark only a centerline.

Show approximately the actual width of the profile.

Then step back to the normal viewing distance.

This simple test helps answer an important question:

Is 22 mm appropriate for this wall, or should the project use a finer or wider molding?

The answer may be different for a small bedroom and a large living or dining space.

How Much MLD-002-MG Do You Need?

Start with the perimeter of every molding frame.

For a rectangle:

Required molding = 2 × width + 2 × height

For example, one frame measuring 42 × 66 in requires:

42 + 66 + 42 + 66 = 216 linear inches

Three identical frames require:

216 × 3 = 648 linear inches

One MLD-002-MG molding is 102.36 in long.

A simple total-length calculation gives:

648 ÷ 102.36 = approximately 6.33 stock lengths

At first glance, this appears to mean seven pieces.

But total footage is only the first part of the calculation.

Why a Cut List Is More Important Than Total Linear Feet

The molding is supplied in fixed 102.36-inch lengths.

The actual sides of the wall frames must fit into those stock lengths.

In the example above, the three frames need:

  • six 66-inch pieces;

  • six 42-inch pieces.

A 102.36-inch molding cannot provide both one 66-inch piece and one 42-inch piece.

After the 66-inch cut, approximately 36.36 inches remain.

That offcut is too short for a 42-inch horizontal section.

Therefore the physical cutting plan can require more full moldings than the basic linear-foot calculation suggests.

This is why larger picture-frame and panel-molding projects should always be ordered from a cut list, not from total footage alone.

Build the Cut List Before Buying

List every finished piece separately.

Record:

  • required length;

  • number of identical pieces;

  • frame location;

  • vertical or horizontal orientation.

Plan the longest cuts first.

Then determine where shorter pieces can be cut from the remaining stock.

Also account for:

  • saw kerf;

  • miter cuts;

  • test cuts;

  • damaged ends;

  • installation adjustments;

  • reasonable project waste.

This is especially important when a design contains many repeated frames.

Mitered Corners: Decide What the Dimensions Mean

Picture-frame wall molding commonly uses 45-degree mitered joints.

Before cutting, define the reference dimensions.

A frame may be measured by:

  • outside dimensions;

  • inside clear opening;

  • molding centerline.

These are three different systems.

Choose one and use it consistently for every frame.

Because MLD-002-MG is 22 mm wide, a misunderstanding between inside and outside dimensions can noticeably change the final panel proportions.

Make a test frame or at least a test corner before cutting the complete order.

MLD-002-MG vs. MLD-001-MG

These two MDF moldings should not be treated as interchangeable products.

MLD-001-MG:
10 × 6 mm / 0.39 × 0.24 in

MLD-002-MG:
22 × 11 mm / 0.87 × 0.43 in

MLD-001-MG creates a finer architectural line.

MLD-002-MG has more than twice the visible face width and creates a much stronger frame.

For a simple large wall panel, MLD-002-MG can serve as the main molding.

In a layered composition, MLD-001-MG can become the fine inner contour while MLD-002-MG establishes the stronger outside frame.

This gives each product a clear design role.

MLD-002-MG vs. MLD-004-MG

MLD-004-MG measures 15 × 8 mm, placing it between the fine MLD-001-MG and the more substantial MLD-002-MG.

The progression is useful when selecting a molding by visual weight:

MLD-001-MG — 10 × 6 mm: fine detail

MLD-004-MG — 15 × 8 mm: medium frame

MLD-002-MG — 22 × 11 mm: more defined primary frame

Rather than asking which molding is universally “better,” determine which profile corresponds to the scale of the actual wall and the role it needs to perform.

MLD-002-MG in STAVROS Decorative Wall Systems

MLD-002-MG is not only an individual molding profile. It is also used as a structural linear element in complete STAVROS wall-decor compositions.

In multi-level systems, the 22 × 11 mm profile can create the main or intermediate frame while narrower or wider moldings establish other levels.

This gives architects and interior designers a useful way to build complexity systematically rather than combining unrelated trim profiles.

The same principle applies when adding decorative polyurethane elements.

The linear MDF molding creates the geometry.

The relief elements provide selected decorative accents.

Together they can form a coordinated wall composition.

Related Decorative Elements for the 002 Profile

STAVROS also offers decorative elements associated with the 002 molding family.

These can be considered when the project requires more than simple mitered rectangular corners.

For a restrained interior, MLD-002-MG can remain completely linear.

For a more decorative classical or neoclassical treatment, compatible ornamental components can be introduced at selected points.

Always check the actual dimensions and intended relationship of each element before specifying the complete composition.

This is preferable to choosing decorative pieces only because they appear visually similar in product photographs.

MDF MLD-002-MG or Polyurethane MLDPU-002?

STAVROS also offers a polyurethane version in the 002 profile family.

The material should be selected according to the project specification rather than simply because the visible geometry is similar.

MLD-002-MG is the primed MDF option.

MLDPU-002 is the polyurethane option.

Consider:

  • project location;

  • substrate;

  • finishing requirements;

  • adjoining decorative elements;

  • material specification;

  • installation conditions.

Two profiles with related geometry should not automatically be treated as interchangeable materials.

Is MLD-002-MG Suitable for Picture Frame Wall Molding?

Yes.

Its 22 × 11 mm cross-section makes MLD-002-MG particularly useful when a picture-frame layout needs a clearly defined border.

It can function as the main profile around medium or large wall panels and can also be combined with a narrower molding in layered compositions.

For very small panels or furniture-scale details, compare the profile with narrower options before finalizing the design.

Is MLD-002-MG a Crown Molding?

No.

MLD-002-MG is a linear decorative molding intended for wall frames, applied panels, furniture, doors, and related interior detailing.

It should not be confused with a purpose-designed crown molding for the wall-to-ceiling transition or with a baseboard used at floor level.

Keeping these product categories separate helps ensure that the profile is selected for the correct application.

Can Primed MDF Molding Be Painted?

MLD-002-MG is supplied in the Prestige Primed finish and is intended to receive the project's final decorative coating.

After installation, complete the necessary preparation of joints, fixing points, and cut areas, then follow the selected paint manufacturer's instructions.

The final color can match the wall for a monochromatic architectural effect or contrast with the background for a more graphic frame.

Where Should MDF Be Used With Additional Care?

MDF should be specified with the actual interior environment in mind.

Where moisture exposure is an important project condition, consider how cut edges, joints, finishing, and the surrounding construction will be protected.

Do not assume that a primed MDF profile is automatically equivalent to a product specifically engineered for continuously wet or exterior conditions.

For projects with unusual environmental requirements, confirm material suitability before ordering.

Why Choose MLD-002-MG?

MLD-002-MG is particularly useful when the project requires a primed MDF molding with enough visual weight to establish the main architectural frame.

Its 22 × 11 mm / 0.87 × 0.43 in cross-section provides:

  • a clearly readable wall-molding line;

  • enough projection for visible light and shadow;

  • a useful scale for picture-frame wall molding;

  • a strong primary profile for applied panels;

  • compatibility with layered molding concepts;

  • a practical profile for furniture and cabinetry;

  • a defined middle level in multi-profile STAVROS wall systems.

Each piece is supplied in a 2600 mm / 102.36 in length, allowing the quantity to be planned from actual frame dimensions and a detailed cutting schedule.

Before ordering, determine whether MLD-002-MG will act as the main frame, the middle level of a layered composition, or a furniture-scale decorative profile.

Then calculate every required side, prepare a cut list, and compare the profile with narrower and wider STAVROS moldings.

The defining advantage of MLD-002-MG is proportion: wider and deeper than a fine detail molding, yet restrained enough to repeat across a wall. That makes it a versatile architectural profile for painted wall panels, picture-frame molding, cabinetry, and coordinated interior compositions.
