Primed MDF Molding MLD-001-MG
Dimensions and Options
Description
A narrow primed MDF moulding with a semicircular profile, 10 × 6 mm, creates a neat relief line without heavy volume. The strip length is 2600 mm. The compact cross-section reads well thanks to soft light and shadow, and is suitable for precise geometry in the interior.
The moulding is convenient to use for wall frames and decorative panels, including as an inner contour next to a wider profile. It helps build double frames, rectangular compositions, and fine linear division of the wall.
When ordering up to 150 pcs., a pine backing (390 rub.) is added to the invoice — it provides a rigid frame for safe transportation of your goods.

Primed MDF Molding MLD-001-MG for Wall Frames and Fine Interior Detailing
MLD-001-MG is a slim primed MDF molding designed for decorative wall frames, applied panel layouts, furniture fronts, built-ins, and other painted interior details where a narrow, precise molding line is more appropriate than a wide architectural profile.
The molding has a 0.39 × 0.24 in (10 × 6 mm) cross-section and a 102.36 in (2600 mm) length. Its compact scale is the defining feature of the profile. MLD-001-MG does not create a heavy border around a wall panel. Instead, it produces a fine architectural line that can define a frame, add a second or third contour to a more elaborate composition, or introduce subtle depth to a flat painted surface.
For homeowners, interior designers, cabinetmakers, and finish carpenters, this makes MLD-001-MG a practical choice when the project calls for MDF wall molding that remains visually controlled after installation and painting.
The factory-primed finish provides a consistent base for the final coating and allows the molding to be coordinated with the wall, cabinetry, furniture, or surrounding trim. Paint it the same color as the background for a quiet shadow-line effect, or use a contrasting color when the molding itself should become part of the graphic composition.
Why the 10 × 6 mm Profile Matters
When selecting decorative molding for walls, dimensions matter as much as style.
A molding that looks restrained in a product photograph can become visually heavy when repeated across an entire wall. Conversely, a profile that is too small may disappear inside a large architectural composition.
MLD-001-MG occupies the fine-detail end of that scale.
At only 0.39 in (10 mm) across the profile, it is well suited to wall layouts where the molding should define geometry without becoming the dominant decorative element. It works particularly well as a narrow border around a painted field, as an inner contour inside a larger frame, or as a secondary molding paired with a wider profile.
This is important for picture frame wall molding, where the relationship between profile width, frame size, spacing, furniture, doors, and the total wall area determines whether the finished layout feels intentional.
A narrow profile can make it possible to create more detailed arrangements without visually filling the wall with trim.
In a simple composition, MLD-001-MG can form the complete frame. In a layered composition, it can provide the fine inner line while a wider molding establishes the stronger outer boundary.
MDF Wall Molding for Picture Frame Panels
One of the most useful applications for MLD-001-MG is picture frame molding on walls.
Picture-frame molding uses linear profiles to create rectangular or square frames directly on a wall. The wall itself remains the panel surface; the applied molding establishes the perimeter and creates architectural depth through light and shadow.
MLD-001-MG is particularly useful for this type of installation because its compact profile does not require an oversized room or a highly ornamented interior.
It can be used for a pair of tall frames behind a sofa, repeated panels along a hallway, symmetrical rectangles behind a bed, smaller frames above cabinetry, or a complete floor-to-ceiling wall composition.
The molding can also be incorporated into an accent wall molding design. Instead of relying only on a different paint color or wallpaper, the wall gains physical structure. Even when the molding and wall are painted in exactly the same color, the raised profile creates a visible line as light moves across the surface.
For a restrained modern interior, use fewer, larger frames with generous spacing. For a more traditional composition, multiple frames and layered profiles can create a stronger architectural rhythm.
The important point is that the molding should follow the proportions of the actual wall rather than being treated as a decoration applied after everything else has already been designed.
Panel Molding for Walls Without Full Wall Panels
The search term panel molding for walls can be misleading because a decorative molding layout does not necessarily require separate wood wall panels.
MLD-001-MG can be installed directly onto a properly prepared wall to create the visual structure of paneling. The molding defines the edges while the existing wall surface becomes the field inside the frame.
This approach can create a paneled appearance with significantly less visual mass than a complete wall-panel system.
The profile can define simple rectangular panels, tall vertical panels, paired wall frames, repeated geometric layouts, or more complex multi-level compositions.
Because MLD-001-MG is narrow, it is especially useful when two profiles are used together. A wider molding can define the primary frame while the 10 × 6 mm profile creates an additional inner border.
That small difference in depth and scale can make a flat composition read as several architectural layers rather than a single strip of trim attached to the wall.
STAVROS uses this principle in its own decorative wall systems. The MLD-MG range includes profiles of different sizes that can be combined to establish primary and secondary contours. MLD-001-MG is the most delicate of these profiles and is therefore particularly useful where the design needs a fine finishing line.
Explore additional sizes in the STAVROS molding collection before finalizing the layout.
A Primed MDF Molding Made for Painted Compositions
MLD-001-MG is manufactured from MDF and supplied with the Prestige Primed finish.
For a painted architectural detail, this matters because the material and the final surface treatment work together.
The goal is not simply to attach a strip of MDF to a wall. The goal is to make the molding appear integrated into the finished interior.
A factory-primed surface reduces the amount of initial surface preparation compared with unfinished MDF and provides a consistent starting surface for the final coating. After installation, joints and fixing points can be prepared as required by the project, the surface can be cleaned and lightly prepared according to the selected paint system, and the molding can then receive its final finish.
For the cleanest result, paint compatibility and preparation should always follow the requirements of the specific coating manufacturer.
This is particularly important when the molding and wall will be painted together. Careful joint preparation helps the individual lengths visually read as one continuous architectural line.
Paint It With the Wall or Make the Molding Visible
One of the strongest advantages of a paintable MDF molding is the amount of control it gives the designer over the final appearance.
Painting MLD-001-MG in the same color as the wall creates a subtle result. The molding is read primarily through shadow rather than color contrast. This treatment works well in modern, transitional, neoclassical, and other interiors where architectural detail is desired without making the trim visually dominant.
A contrasting finish changes the role of the molding.
Dark molding against a lighter wall creates a more graphic outline. A light profile on a darker wall makes the frame more immediately visible. A composition can also use tonal differences rather than absolute contrast—for example, a slightly darker or lighter version of the wall color.
There is no universal correct choice. The profile, frame dimensions, room lighting, furniture, and wall color all affect how strongly the molding will appear.
Because MLD-001-MG is physically narrow, even a contrasting finish can remain more restrained than the same color treatment applied to a wider profile.
Decorative Wall Molding for More Than One Interior Style
Decorative wall molding is often associated with highly traditional rooms, but the profile itself does not determine the style.
Proportion does.
A wall filled with several small frames, layered moldings, and ornamental elements will naturally feel more decorative. The same narrow profile used in two or three large rectangular frames can look much more contemporary.
MLD-001-MG can therefore work in different design directions depending on the layout.
In a neoclassical room, it can become part of a multi-level wall panel system. In a restrained contemporary interior, it can form a single large frame behind a sofa or bed. In built-in cabinetry, it can introduce a narrow decorative outline on an otherwise simple painted facade.
This flexibility makes the molding useful for projects where one architectural language needs to continue from walls to furniture or built-in millwork.
Using MLD-001-MG on Furniture and Cabinetry
Wall applications are only one possible use for this narrow MDF profile.
Its 10 × 6 mm scale also makes MLD-001-MG suitable for decorative detailing on appropriately designed furniture fronts, cabinet doors, built-ins, panels, and other painted millwork.
A small molding can turn an uninterrupted flat facade into a framed surface without requiring a large ornamental profile.
The same principle used for wall frames applies here: profile size must be proportional to the surface being decorated.
A 10 mm molding on a cabinet front has a very different visual relationship to the surrounding surface than a wide architectural wall molding. This is precisely why a narrow profile can be useful for furniture-scale work.
Before installation, verify the dimensions of the actual door or panel, available edge clearances, hardware locations, and the final opening geometry. The frame should be designed around the finished object rather than simply centered by eye.
MLD-001-MG as an Inner Molding in Layered Wall Frames
A single molding frame creates one transition between the surrounding wall and the field inside the frame.
Adding a second profile changes that relationship.
MLD-001-MG can be used as the fine inner contour of a larger decorative frame. The outer molding establishes the overall scale and visual weight; the narrow inner profile adds detail and increases the perceived depth of the composition.
This technique is especially useful on larger walls, where a single thin profile may appear too delicate from across the room but a single wide profile may look too heavy.
Combining different scales allows each molding to perform a different function.
STAVROS offers additional MDF and polyurethane profiles in the moldings collection, allowing the designer to compare cross-sections before establishing the final frame dimensions.
The profile should be selected before the complete wall layout is finalized. Changing from a 10 mm molding to a substantially wider molding later can alter the clear space inside each frame and change the visual proportions of the entire composition.
MDF or Polyurethane Molding: Which Should You Choose?
The material should follow the application.
MLD-001-MG is the MDF version of the 001 profile and is a strong candidate for straight, painted interior runs where a rigid MDF molding suits the construction and finish specification.
STAVROS also offers the MLDPU-001 polyurethane molding in the same 10 × 6 × 2600 mm nominal size.
The fact that two material options exist is useful because a project should not be forced into one material simply because the profile dimensions are right.
For a straightforward painted MDF wall or furniture project, MLD-001-MG may be the logical option. Where the project specification favors polyurethane, MLDPU-001 provides another way to work with the same nominal profile size.
The right choice depends on location, substrate, environmental conditions, finishing system, adjoining decorative elements, and the overall project specification.
This is also why generic searches for “wall molding” are only the beginning of product selection. Material, dimensions, projection, finish, and compatibility all matter once the project moves from inspiration to an actual order.
Build a Complete Molding System, Not a Collection of Unrelated Pieces
The most convincing wall molding designs usually look intentional because their elements share a common scale.
MLD-001-MG can be used alone, but it can also be incorporated into a larger decorative system.
STAVROS offers molding decor and decorative accents that can be used to develop more elaborate wall compositions. Where corners, appliques, or other ornamental pieces are required, select components that are dimensionally and stylistically appropriate for the molding series rather than mixing decorative elements only because they look similar in photographs.
This is especially important for detailed installations.
A small difference in the width or projection of two components may be difficult to see online but obvious once they meet on a wall.
For projects using several elements, check the product drawings and dimensions before ordering. The objective is not to add the greatest possible number of decorative pieces. It is to build a composition in which every profile has a clear role.
How Much MDF Molding Do You Need?
The correct quantity is determined by the actual perimeter of the frames, not simply by the width of the wall.
For a rectangular frame, add the lengths of all four sides. Then repeat the calculation for every frame in the design.
For example, a frame measuring 36 × 60 in requires:
36 + 60 + 36 + 60 = 192 linear inches of molding.
Two identical frames require 384 linear inches.
One MLD-001-MG molding is 102.36 in long, so the simple linear calculation is:
384 ÷ 102.36 = approximately 3.75 lengths.
That means at least four full lengths are required before considering saw kerf, corner cuts, damaged ends, pattern changes, or spare material.
The linear-foot total alone is not always enough.
Cut planning matters because every required side must physically fit into the available stock lengths. A layout with many short pieces may use material differently from a layout with several long vertical runs, even if the total perimeter is similar.
For larger projects, prepare a cut list before ordering. Record every required vertical and horizontal piece, then group cuts against the 102.36 in stock length.
This small planning step can reduce unnecessary waste and, more importantly, prevent discovering during installation that the total footage was technically sufficient but the remaining pieces are too short for the required runs.
Planning Picture Frame Wall Molding Before Installation
A good picture frame wall molding layout begins with the wall, not the molding.
Measure the complete wall and identify the features that cannot move: inside corners, door and window casing, baseboards, switches, outlets, built-in furniture, radiators, and permanent fixtures.
Then establish the main visual reference.
In a bedroom, that may be the centerline of the bed. In a living room, it may be the sofa or fireplace. In a dining room, it may be the center of a long uninterrupted wall.
Frames do not always need to be identical. What matters more is a consistent design logic.
Equal gaps can often create a more convincing composition than forcing equal frame widths onto walls interrupted by doors or windows. Likewise, maintaining a consistent distance from surrounding trim can make several differently sized panels appear intentionally related.
Only after the layout is established should the final cut lengths be calculated.
This approach turns molding for walls from a decorative accessory into part of the room's architecture.
Installation and Finishing Considerations
MLD-001-MG should be installed on a stable, appropriately prepared interior surface using installation methods and adhesives suitable for MDF and the substrate.
Dry-fit the layout before permanent attachment, especially where several frames must align.
For mitered frame corners, precise cutting matters because a narrow profile makes small alignment errors easy to see. Test the cutting setup on an offcut before preparing all of the finished pieces.
After installation, joints and fixing points can be filled and finished as required by the selected system. Remove sanding dust before applying the final coating.
The molding arrives primed, but “primed” should not be interpreted as meaning that every project can skip all final surface preparation. The exact preparation depends on the paint, the desired finish quality, site conditions, and the way the individual lengths have been joined.
For a high-quality painted result, treat installation, joint preparation, and final coating as one continuous finishing process.
Where MDF Requires More Care
MDF is primarily suited to interior applications where the material is protected from prolonged exposure to water.
For kitchens, bathrooms, or other locations where humidity or occasional moisture may be higher, the project specification should account for protection of cut ends, joints, and finished surfaces.
Do not assume that factory primer alone turns standard MDF into a waterproof material.
Where moisture exposure is a significant design condition, compare material options before ordering rather than selecting a profile on appearance alone.
This is one situation where reviewing the broader STAVROS molding range can help determine whether MDF or another material is more appropriate.
Is MLD-001-MG Too Narrow for a Wall?
Not necessarily. The question is what job the profile needs to perform.
If the goal is a strong architectural border visible from a long distance, a wider molding may be more appropriate.
If the design requires a fine frame, a subtle shadow line, a secondary inner contour, or detailing on cabinetry, the 10 × 6 mm size is precisely what makes MLD-001-MG useful.
Scale should always be evaluated in context.
A molding that looks small when held in the hand can become clearly visible when it forms a 60-inch-tall rectangular frame. Repetition also increases its presence: several narrow wall frames can create a strong architectural rhythm without requiring a wide profile.
When uncertain, compare the product dimensions against the actual wall and mark the proposed frame with painter's tape before ordering. This provides a much more realistic sense of scale than judging the molding only from a close-up product image.
Can MLD-001-MG Be Used for Accent Wall Molding?
Yes, a narrow profile is particularly well suited to an accent wall molding layout when the goal is to add structure rather than heavy ornament.
A large centered frame can establish a focal area behind a bed, sofa, console, or dining table. Several repeated frames can create rhythm across a longer wall.
Paint strategy then determines how assertive the result becomes.
Painting both molding and wall in one color emphasizes relief and shadow. Contrast makes the geometry more explicit.
The same MLD-001-MG profile can therefore produce very different interiors without changing the physical molding.
Can Primed MDF Molding Be Painted?
MLD-001-MG is supplied with a factory-primed surface specifically suited to a project where a final painted finish will be applied.
The final coating should be selected according to the interior surface, required appearance, and coating manufacturer's instructions.
Before finishing, inspect joints and fixing points, complete any necessary filling or light surface preparation, and remove dust.
The major advantage is control: the molding is not locked into one factory color. It can be coordinated with the wall, furniture, or surrounding architectural trim.
Is MLD-001-MG Suitable for Picture Frame Molding?
Yes. Its narrow 10 × 6 mm profile makes it particularly relevant for picture frame wall molding, smaller decorative panels, inner borders, and compositions where a wider molding would introduce too much visual weight.
For larger rooms or stronger architectural frames, it can also be paired with a wider profile rather than asking one molding to perform both the primary and secondary decorative roles.
Why Choose MLD-001-MG?
Choose MLD-001-MG when the project requires a slim MDF molding, a factory-primed surface, and a precise linear element for painted interior detailing.
Its value is not that it is the largest or most ornamental molding in the collection. It is the opposite.
The 10 × 6 mm profile gives designers control over the finer lines of a composition. It can establish a restrained wall frame, define the inside of a layered panel, add detail to furniture, or connect several decorative elements without overwhelming them.
At 102.36 in (2600 mm) per length, it also provides a useful stock size for planning long straight runs and framed compositions.
Before ordering, determine the complete wall or furniture layout, calculate every required run, check the cut plan, and decide whether this narrow profile will be used alone or in combination with a wider molding.
Then compare related STAVROS moldings and wall decor systems to build the complete composition around the actual dimensions of your project.
MLD-001-MG is a small profile, but that is exactly its purpose: a fine architectural line where proportion, precision, and finish matter more than decorative mass.
