More than 20 years on the market

The company's success began in 2002, when two artists — Andrey Ragozin and Evgeny Tsapko — created a small creative workshop for producing wooden carved items. The masters' work was quickly noticed, and within a year they were invited to participate in the reconstruction of the Konstantinovskiy Palace in Strelna.

After the success of this project, the company focused on recreating palace interiors, furniture, church furnishings, and carved decorations in various artistic styles. They worked with cultural heritage sites: The Hermitage, the Alexandrovsky Palace, the Troitsko-Izmaylovsky Cathedral, the Sheremetyevsky Mansion, and many others.

The masters' task — and still is — to create wooden items with the highest level of detail and understanding of every element, based on impeccable knowledge of artistic laws and interior styles.

Baseboard BE55 from polystyrene HI WOOD — a compact solution for modern interiors

Interior design requires careful selection of each element, including baseboard, which unifies horizontal and vertical planes of the room.Polystyrene baseboardModels BE55 from the South Korean manufacturer HI WOOD with dimensions 55 × 15 × 2000 mm represent a compact solution for spaces requiring delicate yet functional framing. ThisPolystyrene floor baseboardcombines compact height of 55 mm with optimal thickness of 15 mm, creating a reliable structure for any operating conditions.

Height of 55 mm belongs to the category of low baseboards and is an ideal choice for rooms with low ceilings of 2.4–2.5 meters, where standard baseboards of 70–80 mm could visually reduce the space. Compact height creates a restrained, elegant framing that does not dominate the interior but effectively performs its protective and decorative functions. Profile height of 55 mm is optimal for modern minimalist interiors, Scandinavian style, Japanese minimalism, and other directions where visual lightness and simplicity of forms are valued.

Thickness of 15 mm makes the baseboard BE55 one of the most robust in the line of compact profiles HI WOOD. Increased thickness ensures enhanced structural rigidity and a maximally reliable mounting surface for attachment to the wall. This is especially important for the compact profile with height of 55 mm — increased thickness compensates for the smaller height and guarantees that the baseboard will not sag during installation even on walls with unevenness up to 3–4 mm. Thickness of 15 mm also creates a substantial mounting surface for applying sufficient amount ofadhesive for polystyrene baseboardswhich ensures a strong, durable connection to the wall.

Standard plank length of 2000 mm allows effectively covering the room perimeter with minimal joints and minimal material waste. The material — phytopolymer (high-density polystyrene, duro-polymer) with density of 680 kg/m³ — provides a unique combination of strength, lightness, and durability. One linear meter of baseboard BE55 weighs only about 110 grams, which is 4–5 times less than similar baseboards made of MDF or solid wood. Absolute water resistance of 100% makespolystyrene floor baseboarduniversal for any rooms including wet zones. Matte white surface for painting opens up the widest possibilities for color decoration.

Premium phytopolymer from HI WOOD

The base of the BE55 skirting board is a phytopolymer — high-density polystyrene of the latest generation, produced by HI WOOD using a patented South Korean technology with more than thirty years of continuous improvement of production processes and strict quality control. This thermoplastic polymer is created by high-precision extrusion of molten polystyrene at a strictly controlled temperature of 200–220°C through a special multi-channel die head, followed by molding under pressure of 25–30 MPa in vacuum chambers with programmable cooling.

Material density of 680 kg/m³ — a key quality indicator, ensuring exceptional mechanical strength at minimal weight. For understanding uniqueness: density of ordinary EPS foam is only 15–25 kg/m³, meaning phytopolymer is 27–45 times denser. Density of natural pine wood is 450–550 kg/m³, meaning phytopolymer exceeds softwoods in density and is comparable to hardwoods. Such outstanding density ensures bending strength of 45–50 MPa, tensile strength of 40–45 MPa, and impact toughness of 10–12 kJ/m², comparable to characteristics of many natural wood species.

Water resistance of phytopolymer reaches absolute 100% — the material does not absorb water even after prolonged immersion for 96 hours or more. Water absorption over 24 hours is less than 0.1% by mass, which is practically zero and dozens of times lower than indicators of all alternative materials: natural wood 15–20%, MDF 8–12%, gypsum 5–10%, polyurethane 0.5–1%. This means thatPolystyrene floor baseboardBE55 can be installed without hesitation in the most extreme conditions — bathrooms with shower cabins and steam generators, toilets, kitchens, laundries, pools, saunas and steam rooms with temperature up to 80°C and humidity up to 100%. The material does not swell, does not deform, does not rot, does not develop mold or fungi.

Temperature stability covers the widest range from -50°C to +80°C without any change in physical or geometric properties. The baseboard does not soften or deform when heated by underfloor heating systems up to 32°C, radiators up to 75°C, convector heaters or extreme summer heat. When cooled, the material does not become brittle and retains elasticity even at -40°C. Coefficient of linear thermal expansion is only 0.06–0.08 mm per meter for temperature change of 10°C — the lowest value among all finishing materials, which eliminates the appearance of gaps at joints during seasonal temperature fluctuations.

Chemical resistance ensures resistance to most household substances. The material does not react with water, soap solutions, most water-based cleaning agents, weak acids and alkalis up to 5–10% concentration, salt solutions, alcohols, oils and fats. It is critically important to remember that polystyrene is absolutely incompatible with organic solvents — acetone, toluene, white spirit, gasoline. These substances destroy the material’s structure.

Ecological safety is confirmed by prestigious international certification "Korea Eco-Label" — the highest class A+ eco-label. The material does not contain formaldehyde, phenol, phthalates, heavy metals, asbestos or other toxic substances. Does not emit volatile organic compounds (VOC) even when heated to 80°C. Phytopolymer is chemically absolutely inert, odorless, hypoallergenic, and safe for health of all population groups including children, pregnant women, and allergy sufferers.

Architectural geometry of compact profile

Dimensions 55 × 15 mm represent the result of long-term design development and practical experience. Height of 55 mm belongs to the category of compact baseboards and is optimal for rooms with low ceilings of 2.4–2.5 meters, where standard baseboards of 70–80 mm would appear disproportionately bulky. Compact height creates visual lightness and does not fragment space with vertical elements.

Profile height of 55 mm effectively hides standard technological gaps of 8–10 mm between floor covering and wall, necessary to compensate for laminate and parquet board expansion. Height of 55 mm also reliably masks minor wall-to-floor unevenness up to 4–5 mm and protects lower part of the wall from mechanical damage during cleaning, from shoe impacts, and from vacuum cleaner scratches.

Thickness of 15 mm makes baseboard BE55 one of the most robust among compact profiles. Increased thickness is critically important for the 55 mm height profile — it ensures necessary structural rigidity and eliminates sagging during installation. Thickness of 15 mm creates a spacious mounting surface of about 14 mm width for applying optimal amount of mounting adhesive, ensuring strong connection to the wall over the entire 55 mm height. At the same time, the profile does not appear overly bulky due to thoughtfully designed cross-section proportions.

BE55 profile is designed in a classic elegant shape with smooth front surface without decorative relief. Smooth surface makes the profile maximally universal and compatible with any interior styles, from strict minimalism to traditional classicism. Shape is designed with ergonomics in mind — rounded edges with radius of 2–3 mm eliminate risk of injury and facilitate cleaning. Upper part smoothly connects to the wall, lower part tightly adheres to the floor.

Baseboard BE55 construction includes a medium-sized internal cavity — cable channel with width of about 10 mm and height up to 40 mm. Wires for telephone, internet Ethernet, TV cable and other low-voltage systems with total cross-section up to 22 mm² can be placed in this cavity. This allows avoiding wall drilling for communication wiring and simplifies installation of communication systems.

Standard length of 2000 mm is optimal for transportation in a car and carrying by one person. Whentwo strips with one joint cover a 4-meter section, which corresponds to the typical dimensions of spacious rooms in luxury apartments and premium-class private homes. Two planks cover a 4-meter length. Low weight of 110 grams per meter makes installation simple and fast.

Areas of application for the compact baseboard

Compact baseboard BE55 with height of 55 mm finds application in various interior solutions. In rooms with low ceilings of 2.4–2.5 meters, thisPolystyrene baseboardcreates balanced framing, visually not reducing the height of the space. Compact profile allows walls to rise maximally from the floor, creating a sense of greater room height.

In minimalist interiors, compact height of 55 mm creates barely noticeable, delicate transition from wall to floor. Baseboard does not attract excessive attention and allows other interior elements to remain in focus. Painted in wall color, it practically dissolves into the space.

In Scandinavian interiors, compact baseboard corresponds to philosophy of functionality and restraint. Painted in white or light gray, it creates a sense of airiness and spaciousness characteristic of northern style.

70 mm high, demonstrates all the advantages of the material — withstands increased humidity from cooking and washing, temperature fluctuations from operating ovens and stoves, frequent intensive wet cleaning with aggressive cleaning agents. The material does not absorb grease, water, or odors, does not change color due to food dyes.polystyrene floor baseboardHeight of 55 mm withstands increased humidity, temperature fluctuations, and frequent cleaning. The material does not absorb grease, water, and odors. Easy to clean and retains its original appearance.

In bathrooms, 100% moisture resistance allows installing the skirting even in areas of direct contact with water. The material does not rot or develop mold even under constant humidity and poor ventilation.

In children's rooms, the compact skirting is safe due to rounded shapes, ecological purity, and ease of maintenance. Children do not trip over the low profile while running. The material's strength ensures resistance to mechanical impacts.

In office spaces, the compact profile creates a professional minimalist look. The cable channel allows laying computer networks. The increased thickness of 15 mm ensures reliable mounting under intensive use.

In stores and commercial spaces, the compact skirting does not distract attention from products and displays. The material's strength ensures longevity under daily professional cleaning.

Professional installation technology

Preparation for installation begins with acclimating the material in the room for at least 24-48 hours at a temperature of +18...+22°C. Planks remain in factory packaging in a horizontal position. The wall surface must be flat with a deviation of no more than 2-3 mm per meter, clean, dry with humidity not exceeding 10%, and degreased.

For mounting, specializedadhesives for polystyrene skirting boardsWater-based: acrylic adhesives such as liquid nails, MS-polymer adhesives, and the proprietary HI WOOD HD1000 adhesive. It is strictly forbidden to use adhesives with organic solvents — they destroy polystyrene.

Adhesive is applied to the back of the skirting in a dashed line or continuous zigzag pattern with an interval of 10-12 cm. For a 15 mm profile, it is recommended to apply adhesive over the entire mounting surface for maximum connection strength. The skirting is pressed against the wall and firmly held for 15-20 seconds.

Due to its low weight of 110 grams, the adhesive sets quickly. Excess is wiped off immediately with a damp sponge before it dries. Full polymerization of the adhesive occurs within 24 hours, after which the skirting can be painted.

Cutting and corner finishing

Questionhow to cut polystyrene skirting boardHeight of 55 mm — a saw with a fine-toothed blade provides the most accurate result. The saw must have a blade with a diameter of at least 200 mm and 60-80 teeth. For home use, a metal hacksaw with a guide is suitable.

Many are interestedhow to cut polystyrene baseboardWithout special tools. For straight cuts, a sharp construction knife with replaceable blades is suitable. The cut is made in several passes with gradual deepening. After cutting, the end is processed with fine-grit sandpaper.

To create internal and external corners, the ends are cut at a 45-degree angle. Plank joints are assembled using a pre-fit method without adhesive. For the compact profile of 55 mm height, precision cutting is especially important — any gaps will be noticeable.

Angular joints are filled with white acrylic sealant. The sealant is applied using a caulking gun, excess is removed with a rubber spatula. The joint is smoothed with a wet finger to form a seamless transition. After drying, the joint is sanded and painted together with the skirting.

Painting the baseboard

Questionhow to paint a polystyrene skirting boardThe answer is unequivocal — only water-based paints. The surface has a fine-porous structure suitable for painting. No preliminary priming is required.

For painting, water-dispersive acrylic paints are used — they are eco-friendly, dry quickly within 2-4 hours, and form a durable coating. Latex paints create a denser film with increased wear resistance. Silicone paints provide maximum moisture resistance for bathrooms.

It is strictly forbidden to use paints with solvents — alkyd enamels, oil-based paints, nitro lacquers. Solvents destroy polystyrene. When selecting paint, it is essential to study the composition — the solvent must be water.

Application is performed with a synthetic-bristle brush or a microfiber roller. The first layer is applied thinly and evenly. After drying, a second layer is applied to achieve an even, saturated color.

Color Solutions

Classic white painting remains a popular choice. A white skirting visually expands the space and suits any style. Painting in wall color creates visual continuity — the skirting blends with walls and makes the room appear higher.

Contrasting painting creates striking effects. A dark skirting on light walls emphasizes the boundary and creates a clear line. A black or dark gray skirting on white walls looks stylish in modern interiors.

Painting in floor covering color creates a visual continuation of the floor onto the wall. Modern acrylic paints allow imitation of any wood species.

Advantages of the BE55 skirting

Compact height of 55 mm is optimal for rooms with low ceilings. Increased thickness of 15 mm ensures maximum rigidity and secure mounting. Smooth surface is universal for any interior style.

South Korean quality HI WOOD guarantees the highest geometric precision. The "Korea Eco-Label" certificate confirms the highest level of ecological safety. Affordable price 2-3 times lower than MDF or wood alternatives.
