More than 20 years on the market

The company's success began in 2002, when two artists — Andrey Ragozin and Evgeny Tsapko — created a small creative workshop for producing wooden carved items. The masters' work was quickly noticed, and within a year they were invited to participate in the reconstruction of the Konstantinovskiy Palace in Strelna.

After the success of this project, the company focused on recreating palace interiors, furniture, church furnishings, and carved decorations in various artistic styles. They worked with cultural heritage sites: The Hermitage, the Alexandrovsky Palace, the Troitsko-Izmaylovsky Cathedral, the Sheremetyevsky Mansion, and many others.

The masters' task — and still is — to create wooden items with the highest level of detail and understanding of every element, based on impeccable knowledge of artistic laws and interior styles.

Baseboard B80A from polystyrene HI WOOD — an elegant solution with increased strength

Creating a harmonious interior requires attention to every detail, and the baseboard plays a key role in forming the finished look of the space.Polystyrene baseboardModel B80A from the South Korean manufacturer HI WOOD with dimensions 80 × 12.5 × 2000 mm represents an elegant classic solution with a decorative profile for standard residential and commercial spaces. ThisPolystyrene floor baseboardcombines increased height of 80 mm, which is ideal for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.6–2.8 meters, with optimal thickness of 12.5 mm, ensuring an ideal balance between structural strength and elegant design.

Height of 80 mm is one of the most popular sizes in European interior design practice and represents an increased profile that creates a more expressive framing of the room compared to standard baseboards with heights of 60–70 mm. Such height provides excellent visual balance — the baseboard is sufficiently noticeable and creates an expressive architectural framing of the room, effectively performing its decorative and protective functions, yet does not dominate the interior or overload the space. A profile height of 80 mm looks especially harmonious in rooms with slightly higher ceilings of 2.6–2.8 meters, where standard 70 mm baseboards would appear disproportionately small.

Thickness of 12.5 mm represents an optimal value that ensures sufficient structural rigidity for an 80 mm high profile without excessive bulk. This thickness creates a reliable mounting surface for applyingadhesive for polystyrene baseboardsand guarantees that the profile will not warp during installation even on walls with unevenness up to 3 mm. At the same time, the baseboard retains the elegance of its lines, does not appear bulky, and does not create obstacles for installing furniture close to walls. Standard plank length of 2000 mm allows effectively covering the perimeter of a standard room with minimal number of joints.

The distinctive feature of model B80A — a decorative profile with ornamental elements that create architectural expressiveness and visual depth. The profile cross-section has characteristic horizontal grooves and protrusions forming a play of light and shadow on the baseboard surface. This detailing makes baseboard B80A especially suitable for classical, neoclassical, and traditional interiors, where carefully considered architectural elements and refined decorative details are valued.

The production material — phitopolymer (high-density polystyrene, duro-polymer) with density 680 kg/m³ — provides a unique combination of strength, lightness, durability, and versatility of application. One linear meter of baseboard B80A weighs only about 135 grams, which is 4–5 times less than similar baseboards made of MDF or solid wood, and 8–10 times less than gypsum baseboards. Absolute water resistance of 100% makespolystyrene floor baseboarduniversal for any rooms including bathrooms, toilets, kitchens and other wet zones. Matte white surface suitable for painting opens up unlimited possibilities for color decoration from classic white to the most daring contrasting solutions.

Phitopolymer of premium quality, Korean production

The base of baseboard B80A is phitopolymer — high-density polystyrene of the latest generation, produced by company HI WOOD using a patented South Korean technology with more than thirty years of continuous improvement of production processes, implementation of technological innovations, and strict multi-stage quality control at every production stage. This thermoplastic polymer is created by high-precision extrusion of molten polystyrene at strictly controlled temperature 200–220°C through a special multi-channel die head with micron precision, followed by molding under pressure 25–30 MPa in vacuum chambers with programmable multi-stage cooling.

Material density 680 kg/m³ — a key quality indicator ensuring exceptional mechanical strength while maintaining minimal product weight. To understand the uniqueness of this material: density of ordinary expanded polystyrene (EPS) is only 15–25 kg/m³, i.e., phitopolymer is 27–45 times denser. Density of natural pine wood is 450–550 kg/m³, oak — 650–750 kg/m³, i.e., phitopolymer is comparable in density to hardwoods. Such outstanding density ensures bending strength of 45–50 MPa, tensile strength of 40–45 MPa, and impact toughness of 10–12 kJ/m², which is comparable or even exceeds characteristics of many medium- and high-density natural wood species.

Water resistance of phitopolymer reaches absolute 100% — the material does not absorb water even after prolonged immersion for 96 hours and more under laboratory conditions. Water absorption over 24 hours is less than 0.1% by mass, which is practically zero and dozens of times lower than indicators of all alternative materials: natural wood 15–20%, MDF 8–12%, gypsum 5–10%, polyurethane 0.5–1%. This means thatPolystyrene floor baseboardB80A can be installed without hesitation in the most extreme conditions of high humidity — bathrooms with shower cabins and jacuzzis, toilets, kitchens with constant cooking, laundries, swimming pools, saunas and steam rooms. The material absolutely does not swell from moisture, does not deform under humidity changes, does not rot and does not develop mold even under constant dampness.

Material temperature stability covers the widest range from -50°C to +80°C without any change in physical, mechanical, or geometric properties. The baseboard does not soften or deform when heated from underfloor heating systems with surface temperature up to 32°C, radiators with temperature up to 75°C, convector heaters or summer heat. When cooled, the material does not become brittle, does not crack, and retains elasticity even at -40°C. Linear thermal expansion coefficient is only 0.06–0.08 mm per meter for a 10°C temperature change — the lowest value among all finishing materials.

Chemical resistance of phitopolymer ensures resistance to most household substances and aggressive environments. The material does not react with water of any hardness and temperature, soapy solutions of any concentration, most household cleaning and washing agents based on water, weak acids and alkalis with concentration up to 5–10%, salt solutions, alcohols, oils and fats. However, it is critically important to remember that polystyrene is absolutely incompatible with organic solvents — acetone, toluene, white spirit, gasoline, ethyl acetate. These substances destroy the polystyrene structure.

Ecological safety of HI WOOD products is confirmed by prestigious international certification "Korea Eco-Label" — the highest class A+ eco-label. The material is guaranteed to contain no formaldehyde, phenol, phthalates, heavy metals, asbestos, or other toxic substances. It does not emit volatile organic compounds (VOC) even when heated to 80°C for a prolonged period. Phytopolymer is chemically inert, odorless even in freshly unpacked state, hypoallergenic, and absolutely safe for health of all population groups.

Architectural geometry of decorative profile

Dimensions 80 × 12.5 mm represent the result of long-term architectural research, design development, and deep analysis of consumer preferences in various countries around the world. Height of 80 mm belongs to the category of increased baseboards and is a popular size in European interior design tradition. This height is optimal for rooms with slightly higher ceilings of 2.6–2.8 meters, typical for apartments with improved layouts, country houses, and business-class office buildings.

Height of 80 mm provides a striking visual effect — the baseboard becomes a noticeable architectural element that structures the space and creates a solid framing of the room. At the same time, the profile does not appear overly bulky and retains elegance due to thoughtfully designed cross-sectional proportions. Profile height of 80 mm most effectively conceals increased technological gaps of 12–15 mm between floor covering and wall, masks unevenness of junction up to 6–8 mm, and provides reliable protection of the lower part of the wall from mechanical damage at a greater height.

Thickness of 12.5 mm represents an optimal value for an 80 mm high profile, ensuring necessary structural rigidity without excessive bulk. This thickness creates a reliable mounting surface with width of about 11.5 mm for applying sufficient amount of mounting adhesive. At the same time, the baseboard does not appear bulky and allows furniture to stand close to walls without large gaps.

Profile cross-section of B80A is designed in a classic elegant form with decorative relief. Front surface has characteristic decorative elements — horizontal protruding strips and grooves, which create expressive play of light and shadow, add visual depth and architectural expressiveness to the profile. Relief is formed by high-precision extrusion with accuracy up to 0.05 mm, which guarantees identicality of all planks in a batch and perfect element alignment. Relief clarity is preserved along the entire length of the profile without distortions or defects.

Profile shape is designed with ergonomics and practicality in mind — all transitions are smooth, rounded edges with radius of 2–3 mm eliminate risk of injury from sharp corners and significantly facilitate wet cleaning of the room. Dust does not accumulate on rounded surfaces. Upper part of the baseboard has smooth transition to the wall, lower part tightly adheres to the floor at 90-degree angle, effectively covering the joint.

Baseboard B80A construction includes a significant internal cavity — a functional cable channel with width of about 10 mm and height up to 65 mm. In this spacious cavity, you can accommodate numerous wires and cables of various purposes — telephone, Ethernet Cat5e/Cat6 internet, TV cable, antenna cable, audio wires with total cross-section up to 30 mm². This allows completely avoiding labor-intensive wall drilling for communication installation.

Standard plank length of 2000 mm is chosen with consideration of optimal balance between practicality of use, convenience of transportation, and ergonomics of installation. This length allows transporting baseboards in a standard passenger car with rear seats folded down. A 2-meter plank can be easily carried and installed by one person. Whentwo strips with one joint cover a 4-meter section, which corresponds to the typical dimensions of spacious rooms in luxury apartments and premium-class private homes.two planks with one joint cover a section 4 meters long.

Areas of application of elegant baseboard

Universal baseboard B80A with height of 80 mm and decorative profile finds wide application in various types of rooms. In apartments and houses with ceilings of 2.6–2.8 meters, thisPolystyrene baseboardcreates a harmonious visually balanced transition from wall to floor, giving the interior a finished professional look.

In living rooms and formal spaces, the 80 mm high baseboard with a decorative profile creates an elegant, refined frame that highlights the interior's sophistication. The decorative relief adds architectural expressiveness and visual depth. Painted in classic white, the B80A baseboard harmoniously complements any interior style, from traditional classic to modern eclectic.

In bedrooms and private rooms, the baseboard creates a calm, cozy atmosphere of completeness and security. The decorative relief adds elegance. The ecological safety of the material, certified by international highest-class certificates, is critically important for bedrooms, where a person spends a significant part of their life.

70 mm high, demonstrates all the advantages of the material — withstands increased humidity from cooking and washing, temperature fluctuations from operating ovens and stoves, frequent intensive wet cleaning with aggressive cleaning agents. The material does not absorb grease, water, or odors, does not change color due to food dyes.polystyrene floor baseboard80 mm high demonstrates all unique advantages of the material — withstands increased humidity from cooking steam, significant temperature fluctuations from an operating oven, frequent intensive wet cleaning with aggressive cleaning agents. The material does not absorb grease, water, or odors, does not change color due to exposure to various substances.

In bathrooms and toilets, the 100% water resistance of the material allows installing the baseboard even in areas of direct contact with water — near shower cabins, bathtubs, sinks. The material is guaranteed not to rot, swell, deform, or become covered with mold or mildew even under constant high humidity of 80-100%.

In hallways and entryways, the 80 mm high baseboard reliably protects walls from mechanical damage caused by removing shoes, dirt from the street, and impacts from bags and umbrellas. The increased height provides more reliable wall protection. The strength of the fitopolymer ensures durability in areas of intensive movement.

In office spaces, conference rooms, and offices, the B80A baseboard creates a professional, solid atmosphere. The decorative profile emphasizes the company's respectability. The cable channel allows neatly laying out computer networks and telephone lines without visible wires.

In restaurants, hotels, and beauty salons, the 80 mm high baseboard with decorative relief creates a sense of premium service. The water resistance and strength of the material ensure durability under intensive commercial use and daily professional cleaning.

Professional installation technology

Preparation for installing the baseboard begins with mandatory acclimatization of the material in the room where the installation will be performed. Despite the minimal coefficient of thermal expansion of the fitopolymer, professional installers recommend leaving the baseboards for at least 24 hours, ideally 48-72 hours, at room temperature +18...+22°C and relative humidity 40-60%. The planks remain in factory packaging in a strictly horizontal position on a flat, stable surface.

The wall surface must be perfectly flat with a deviation of no more than 2-3 mm per linear meter, absolutely clean without dust or dirt, dry with moisture content not exceeding 10% by mass, and fully degreased. All protruding irregularities exceeding 2 mm are removed by grinding with abrasive grit 60-80. Large dents deeper than 3 mm and cracks wider than 2 mm are carefully filled with gypsum or polymer putty flush with the wall surface.

To improve adhesive bond and strengthen the base, it is recommended to prime the wall with a deep-penetration acrylic primer. The primer is applied with a roller or brush to a height of 12-15 cm from the floor and fully dries within 2-4 hours at room temperature.

Marking the position of the baseboard is performed taking into account the specific features of the room. In rooms with a correct rectangular shape, marking is usually not required. However, in rooms with complex configurations, it is recommended to preliminarily mark the positions of joints and corners with a pencil to optimize material consumption and ensure symmetrical placement of joints.

For mounting, specializedadhesives for polystyrene skirting boardsWater-based without organic solvents: acrylic adhesives of the "liquid nails" type with high initial tack of 2-3 minutes, MS-polymer adhesives with elastic seams, the proprietary HI WOOD HD1000 adhesive specifically developed for the company's products.

It is strictly prohibited to use adhesives containing organic solvents: liquid nails on synthetic rubber in solvents, chloroprene adhesives, epoxy resins with solvents. These substances destroy the polystyrene structure. When choosing any adhesive, it is essential to carefully study its composition on the label — the solvent must be water.

Adhesive is applied to the back of the baseboard in a dotted line or continuous snake pattern with an interval of 10-15 cm. For an 80 mm profile, it is sufficient to apply adhesive in a 3-4 mm thick strip. After applying the adhesive, the baseboard is pressed firmly against the wall vertically and pressed tightly along its entire length with palms for 15-20 seconds to allow initial adhesive bonding.

Due to its low weight of 135 grams per linear meter, the adhesive sets very quickly, and additional mechanical fixation with screws or anchors is usually not required. The baseboard securely adheres to the wall due to adhesive bonding. This is an important advantage — the absence of through holes improves aesthetics and simplifies installation.

Excess adhesive protruding along the top and bottom edges of the baseboard must be immediately removed before it dries using a damp sponge or soft cloth. Full polymerization of most water-based adhesives occurs within 24 hours at +20°C and relative humidity of 50-60%. After the adhesive has fully dried, the baseboard can be painted.

Cutting and preparation of elements

Important question —how to cut polystyrene skirting board80 mm high with a decorative profile. The most accurate result is achieved using a dado saw with a fine-toothed disc of at least 250 mm diameter with 60-80 teeth. The saw must have a laser pointer and an accurate angle setting system with an error of less than 0.5 degrees.

Suitable for home use is a metal hacksaw with fine teeth (tooth pitch 1-1.5 mm) in combination with a miter gauge. The hacksaw must have a rigid blade with hardened teeth. The miter gauge must have sufficient depth to secure the 80 mm high baseboard.

Many askhow to cut polystyrene baseboardFor cutting without special tools. For straight cuts at 90 degrees, a sharp construction knife with replaceable trapezoidal blades is suitable. The cut is performed in several passes with gradual deepening — first, the front surface is cut to a depth of 2-3 mm along the ruler, then gradually deepened to full cut.

When cutting, it is critically important to ensure the baseboard's immobility. The stock must be securely fixed in the miter gauge or clamps to the workbench. The saw's movements must be smooth without jerks. After cutting, the end is recommended to be lightly sanded with fine-grit sandpaper of 180-220 grit to remove microscopic burrs and irregularities.

Corner finishing and jointing of elements

Finishing internal and external corners is a critically important stageinstallation of polystyrene skirting boardThe angle of the cut determines the professionalism of the work. To create angles, the ends are beveled at 45 degrees. When joining two planks, a 90-degree angle is formed. For an 80 mm high baseboard with a decorative profile, precision beveling is especially important — any gaps will be very noticeable.

Joining planks at the corner is performed using a dry-fit method without adhesive. Both planks are installed to check the quality of the joint. If the joint has gaps or misalignment of the relief, the beveling is adjusted. Only after achieving a perfect joint are the planks installed with adhesive.

Filling the corner joint is performed with a water-based acrylic sealant with minimal shrinkage of no more than 2%. The sealant is applied from a caulking gun with a 45-degree angled nozzle directly into the joint gap. Excess sealant is immediately removed with a rubber spatula. The joint is carefully smoothed with a damp finger or sponge, forming a smooth, inconspicuous transition.

After the sealant has fully dried within 4-6 hours, the joint can be lightly sanded with fine-grit sandpaper to remove microscopic irregularities. Then the joint is painted with the same paint as the baseboard in the same color. A properly executed corner joint should be practically invisible after painting.

Painting the baseboard

The most important question —how to paint a polystyrene skirting boardB80A to achieve a high-quality, long-lasting finish. The baseboard surface has a specially prepared fine-porous structure, optimized for painting with water-based paints without prior priming. Simply remove dust with a dry, non-woven cloth.

Only water-based paints without organic solvents are used for painting. Optimal are acrylic water-dispersible interior paints with matte or semi-matte finish — they dry quickly within 2-4 hours, have no odor, are environmentally safe, and form a durable coating. Latex paints form a denser, more wear-resistant film with a slight silk-like gloss. Silicone paints provide maximum water resistance and vapor permeability.

It is strictly prohibited to use paints based on solvents — alkyd enamels, oil-based paints, nitrocellulose lacquers, polyurethane enamels with solvents. Solvents destroy the polystyrene structure. When choosing paint, it is essential to carefully study its composition on the label — the solvent must be water.

Application is performed with a synthetic bristle brush or a microfiber roller. The brush allows thoroughly painting the decorative relief, grooves, and recesses of the profile. The first layer is applied thinly and evenly. After drying, a second layer is applied to achieve an even, saturated color. For a decorative profile, usually two layers of quality paint are sufficient.

Advantages of the B80A baseboard

The increased height of 80 mm is optimal for rooms with ceilings 2.6-2.8 meters high and creates a striking frame. The decorative profile with relief adds architectural expressiveness and suits classic interiors. The thickness of 12.5 mm ensures an optimal balance between strength and elegance.

South Korean HI WOOD quality guarantees the highest geometric accuracy with deviations no more than 0.5 mm. Automated lines ensure identicality of all planks. The "Korea Eco-Label" certificate confirms the highest class of ecological safety. Affordable price 2-3 times lower than equivalents made of MDF or wood at comparable quality.
