More than 20 years on the market

The company's success began in 2002, when two artists — Andrey Ragozin and Evgeny Tsapko — created a small creative workshop for producing wooden carved items. The masters' work was quickly noticed, and within a year they were invited to participate in the reconstruction of the Konstantinovskiy Palace in Strelna.

After the success of this project, the company focused on recreating palace interiors, furniture, church furnishings, and carved decorations in various artistic styles. They worked with cultural heritage sites: The Hermitage, the Alexandrovsky Palace, the Troitsko-Izmaylovsky Cathedral, the Sheremetyevsky Mansion, and many others.

The masters' task — and still is — to create wooden items with the highest level of detail and understanding of every element, based on impeccable knowledge of artistic laws and interior styles.

Finishing touches in interior decoration require special attention to details that create harmony and functionality of the space.

Finishing touches in interior decoration require special attention to details that create harmony and functionality of the space.Polystyrene baseboardModel B55V1 from the South Korean manufacturer HI WOOD with dimensions 55 × 12 × 2000 mm represents an optimal solution for standard residential and commercial spaces. ThisPolystyrene floor baseboardcombines compact height of 55 mm, which is ideal for rooms with ceilings 2.5–2.7 meters, optimal thickness of 12 mm, and creates a balanced transition from wall to floor.

Height of 55 mm is one of the most popular sizes in the baseboard segment. This height provides visual completeness of the interior without overloading the space with excessive bulk. The profile is sufficiently noticeable to perform its decorative and protective functions, yet remains a delicate element that does not dominate the interior. Thickness of 12 mm creates an optimal balance between mounting reliability and elegant form. Standard length of 2000 mm allows effectively covering the perimeter of a standard room with minimal number of joints.

The production material — phytopolymer (high-density polystyrene) with density 680 kg/m³ — provides a unique combination of characteristics that make thispolystyrene floor baseboarda universal choice for any conditions. The product has a low weight of about 110 grams per linear meter, which is 4–5 times less than similar baseboards made of MDF or solid wood. Absolute water resistance of 100% makes the profile suitable for any rooms including bathrooms, kitchens, and toilets. Matte white surface suitable for painting opens up endless possibilities for color decoration from classic white to bold contrasting solutions.

High-density polystyrene as a modern material

The base of the baseboard B55V1 is phytopolymer — high-density polystyrene of the new generation, produced by the company HI WOOD using advanced South Korean technology with more than thirty years of experience. This thermoplastic polymer is created by precision extrusion of molten polystyrene at a temperature of 200–220°C through a special die head, followed by molding under controlled pressure of 25–30 MPa in vacuum chambers with forced cooling. Multi-stage technological process forms an absolutely dense, homogeneous structure without any voids, cavities, micropores, microcracks, or foreign inclusions, which fundamentally distinguishes phytopolymer from ordinary expanded polystyrene.

Density of the material is 680 kg/m³ — this is a key quality indicator ensuring maximum mechanical strength while maintaining minimal weight of the product. For comparison: density of ordinary expanded polystyrene used for thermal insulation is only 15–25 kg/m³, i.e., phytopolymer is 27–45 times denser. Such high density provides bending strength of 45–50 MPa, tensile strength of 40–45 MPa, and impact resistance of 10–12 kJ/m², comparable to characteristics of some medium-density wood species. At the same time, one linear meter of baseboard B55V1 weighs only about 110 grams, making it one of the lightest baseboards in its size class.

Water resistance of phytopolymer reaches absolute 100% — the material does not absorb water even after prolonged immersion for 48 hours or more. Water absorption over 24 hours is less than 0.1% by mass, which is practically zero and dozens of times lower than wood, MDF, or gypsum. This means thatPolystyrene floor baseboardB55V1 can be installed without hesitation in the most humid rooms — bathrooms with shower cabins, showers, toilets, kitchens with high humidity, laundries, swimming pools, saunas, and steam rooms with temperature up to 80°C. The material does not swell from moisture, does not deform under humidity fluctuations from 20% to 95%, does not rot, does not develop mold or fungi even under constant dampness.

Temperature stability of the material covers the widest range from -50°C to +80°C without any change in physical or geometric properties. The baseboard does not soften or deform when heated from underfloor heating systems with surface temperature up to 30°C, from radiators with surface temperature up to 70°C, convector heaters, infrared heaters, or summer heat up to +40°C in the room. When cooled, the material does not become brittle, does not crack, and retains certain elasticity even at -30°C, which is relevant for unheated rooms, cottages, and country houses with seasonal occupancy. Coefficient of linear thermal expansion is only 0.06–0.08 mm per meter for a 10°C temperature change — this is the minimum value among all finishing materials, which eliminates the appearance of gaps at joint seams due to seasonal temperature fluctuations.

Ecological safety of HI WOOD products is confirmed by prestigious international certification "Korea Eco-Label" — a sign of highest environmental class, awarded only to products that have passed strict multi-stage tests for absence of harmful emissions. The material does not contain formaldehyde, phenol, phthalates, heavy metals, asbestos, toxic substances, or allergens. Does not emit volatile organic compounds even when heated to 70°C. Phytopolymer is chemically inert, does not react with other materials, has no odor even in freshly unpacked state, is hypoallergenic, and absolutely safe for human health, including children, pregnant women, people with allergies, asthma, and household pets. The product is permitted for use in kindergartens, schools, medical facilities, children’s rooms, and bedrooms without any restrictions.

Architectural geometry of universal profile

Dimensions 55 × 12 mm represent the result of long-term design developments, practical experience of HI WOOD specialists, and analysis of consumer preferences in various countries. Height of 55 mm is one of the most popular worldwide for baseboards and is considered universal for rooms with standard ceiling heights of 2.5–2.7 meters, typical for modern apartments and houses. This height provides optimal visual balance — the baseboard is sufficiently noticeable and performs its decorative and protective functions, yet does not dominate the interior, does not overload the space, and does not attract excessive attention.

Height of 55 mm effectively hides the technological compensatory gap of 8–12 mm between floor covering and wall, which must be left to compensate for thermal-humidity expansion of laminate, parquet, solid wood, and other wooden floor materials. Height of 55 mm also reliably masks minor irregularities at wall-floor junctions, which often occur even in professionally executed renovations. The lower part of the wall up to 55 mm height receives reliable protection from mechanical damage during cleaning, from foot impacts, from dirt and water splashes during floor cleaning.

Thickness of 12 mm provides optimal mounting surface for secure profile attachment to the wall usingadhesive for polystyrene baseboardsThis thickness allows applying sufficient amount of mounting adhesive to create a strong bond, while the adhesive does not squeeze out at the edges due to optimal mounting surface width. Thickness of 12 mm also provides the profile with necessary rigidity and resistance to deformation — the baseboard does not sag during installation and reliably maintains its shape after mounting. At the same time, the profile does not appear bulky and does not create obstacles for installing furniture close to walls.

The cross-section of the baseboard B55V1 is designed in a classic elegant form with smooth lines and soft transitions. The front surface has a characteristic decorative relief with horizontal grooves, creating expressive play of light and shadow. The profile shape is designed with ergonomics and practicality in mind — rounded edges eliminate the risk of sharp corners and significantly facilitate wet cleaning. The upper part of the baseboard smoothly connects with the wall, while the lower part tightly adheres to the floor, effectively covering the joint and preventing dust and dirt accumulation in the gap.

The baseboard construction includes an internal cavity that forms a natural cable channel with width of about 8 mm and height up to 40 mm. Wires for telephone, internet Ethernet, TV, antenna, and other low-voltage systems with total cross-section up to 25 mm² can be placed in this cavity. This allows avoiding labor-intensive and dusty wall drilling for communication wiring and significantly simplifies installation and subsequent modification of communication systems, furniture rearrangement, and room reconfiguration. However, it should be noted that for laying 220V power cables, special baseboards with certified insulated cable channels and non-combustible construction are required.

Standard plank length of 2000 mm is chosen taking into account practical, transport, and ergonomic considerations. This length is optimal for transportation in a car with rear seats folded, in a minibus, or on a roof rack. A 2-meter plank can be easily carried and installed by one person without assistance. Whentwo strips with one joint cover a 4-meter section, which corresponds to the typical dimensions of spacious rooms in luxury apartments and premium-class private homes.two planks with one joint cover a 4-meter section, which corresponds to typical room sizes in modern apartments and private houses. Length of 2000 mm is also optimal in terms of minimizing waste when cutting planks to fit specific room dimensions.

Areas of application of universal baseboard

Universal baseboard B55V1 with height of 55 mm finds application in various interior solutions due to optimal dimensions and neutral design. In apartments and houses with ceiling height of 2.5–2.7 meters, thisPolystyrene baseboardcreates a harmonious transition from wall to floor, visually completing the space without excessive bulk. Height of 55 mm corresponds to classic interior proportions and suits any styles from traditional classic to modern minimalism.

In classic interiors, baseboard with height of 55 mm creates an elegant frame that emphasizes the elegance of the finish. Painted white and enhanced with decorative molding or patina, it harmoniously combines with moldings, cornices, and other classic elements. Compact profile does not overload the interior, preserving lightness and elegance of classic forms.

In modern interiors, baseboard B55V1 creates a clear graphic line that structures the space. Painted in contrasting color — black on white walls or white on dark walls — it emphasizes the geometry of the room and creates an effect of architectural expressiveness. Height of 55 mm is sufficient to be noticeable, yet not dominating.

In Scandinavian interiors, the compactpolystyrene floor baseboardHeight of 55 mm corresponds to philosophy of functionality and restraint. Painted white or light gray, it blends with light walls and creates a sense of airiness, spaciousness, and cleanliness characteristic of Scandinavian style.

In commercial spaces — offices, shops, salons, cafes, restaurants — the universal skirting board with a height of 55 mm creates a professional, finished look. It does not distract attention from the interior and products, while reliably protecting walls from damage during intensive use. The strength of the fitopolymer ensures durability even with daily wet cleaning using cleaning agents.

In children's rooms, the 55 mm skirting board is safe due to its rounded shapes without sharp corners. The material's moisture resistance allows wiping the skirting board with a damp cloth during frequent cleaning. Ecological safety is confirmed by international certificates, which is especially important for children's rooms.

Professional installation technology

Preparation for installing skirting boards begins with mandatory acclimatization of the material in the room where installation will be performed. Despite the minimal coefficient of thermal expansion of the fitopolymer, professional installers recommend leaving skirting boards for at least 24 hours, preferably 48–72 hours, at room temperature +18...+22°C. Planks remain in factory packaging in a horizontal position, away from heating appliances and direct sunlight, which may cause uneven heating.

The wall surface must be flat with deviations no more than 2–3 mm per linear meter, clean, dry with humidity not exceeding 10%, and degreased. All protruding irregularities are removed by sanding, and large dents and cracks are filled with gypsum or cement putty. To improve adhesive bond, it is recommended to prime the wall with a deep-penetration primer.

For mounting, specializedadhesives for polystyrene skirting boardsWater-based without organic solvents. It is strictly prohibited to use adhesives with solvents — they damage polystyrene. The adhesive is applied to the back of the skirting board in a dashed line with an interval of 10–15 cm.

Cutting and corner finishing

Questionhow to cut polystyrene skirting boardThe 55 mm height has several answers. A saw with a fine-toothed disc provides the most accurate result. For home use, a metal hacksaw with a back will suffice. Many are interested inhow to cut polystyrene baseboard— A sharp utility knife is suitable for straight cuts.

To create corners, the ends are cut at 45 degrees. Joints are assembled using a pre-fit method. The joint is filled with acrylic sealant, which is sanded and painted after drying.

Painting and color solutions

Questionhow to paint a polystyrene skirting boardIt has a clear answer — only water-based paints. Acrylic, latex, and silicone paints are ideal. Paints with solvents are strictly prohibited.

Classic white painting remains popular. Painting to match wall color creates visual continuity. Contrasting painting highlights geometry. Painting to match floor color creates visual extension.

Advantages of choosing skirting board B55V1

Korean quality ensures the highest geometric precision with deviations no more than 0.5 mm. The "Korea Eco-Label" certificate confirms ecological safety. Affordable price 2–3 times lower than equivalents made of MDF or wood. Universality of application for dry and wet rooms.
