One of the elements of furniture decoration are legs, on which the main structure rests. They can be very diverse both in their parameters and in appearance. Certainly, this decorative element must be beautiful, matching the overall style of the item and the entire room. However, in addition to this, it must also be strong enough so that any furniture item, even the heaviest chiffonier, can stand firmly on such a small detail. That is why the materials from which legs are made must be natural and very strong.

If viewed at an enlarged scale, then Legs it can be compared to balusters for staircases – they have a similar structure, construction, and also perform a similar load-bearing function. Only balustersthey usually support only a light plank or simply a handrail, whereas the task for furniture legs is much more complex. That is why they are manufactured with precise calculation of the weight they will have to bear in the future. That is, if we are talking about a load-bearing element of a chair, it will be tall and slender. For a table, the leg will have even greater height, while for a chest or wardrobe, on the contrary, a very low and voluminous model will be manufactured.

Aesthetically Wooden leg it can look completely different for any type of furniture. This can be the appearance of natural wood with its true color and texture, that is, the element will simply be coated with varnish. The same wooden structure can be finished on the outside to resemble yellow gold, antique gold, or white. Also, the surface of a wooden leg can be covered with a solid color paint and sanded. This technique is often used, but only in the case when the furniture standing on this support has the same finish.

All options of furniture legs are equipped with an internal metal dowel. That is, a metal element is embedded into the very center of this wooden structure. It is necessary so that the leg is strong, can withstand heavy loads, and does not deform. Also, this dowel performs a fastening function. It is screwed into the bottom of a cabinet, table, chest, or drawer (or any other furniture element), thereby securely fixing the entire structure.

It should be noted that even if the furniture itself is made of MDF or particleboard, its legs must necessarily be substantial. Wood-based "mixtures" that are pressed and glued are suitable for fronts and drawers. However, they are incapable of performing a load-bearing function.
