The company ordered the pens for us when we ordered furniture. But I decided to write a review personally because they are amazing! Stylish, expensive, high-quality!
More than 20 years on the market
The company's success began in 2002, when two artists — Andrey Ragozin and Evgeny Tsapko — created a small creative workshop for producing wooden carved items. The masters' work was quickly noticed, and within a year they were invited to participate in the reconstruction of the Konstantinovskiy Palace in Strelna.
After the success of this project, the company focused on recreating palace interiors, furniture, church furnishings, and carved decorations in various artistic styles. They worked with cultural heritage sites: The Hermitage, the Alexandrovsky Palace, the Troitsko-Izmaylovsky Cathedral, the Sheremetyevsky Mansion, and many others.
The masters' task — and still is — to create wooden items with the highest level of detail and understanding of every element, based on impeccable knowledge of artistic laws and interior styles.

Corner decorative element MLD-2U-2.1R: right corner decor for solid wood molding frame under enamel
Imagine: the facade is ready, the molding is glued, the primer is applied, and only when the first coat of paint is laid does it become obvious—the corners don't hold. The joint of the molding runs reads like a scar, not a decorative detail. It is precisely to ensure this never happens that corner decorative elements exist—system components designed in tandem with a specific molding profile.
Decorative corner element MLD-2U-2.1R— right corner element for solid wood molding layout: beech or oak to choose from. Size 200 × 135 × 20 mm, 'Standard' finish (machine sanding), 'Under enamel' finishing option. This is one of the largest corner elements in the STAVROS range—and one of the most expressive. Decor for moldings of this class is developed not as 'corner decor in general,' but as a precise component part for a frame composition with a molding profile.
The letter 'R' in the article number stands for Right. The product occupies the right corners of the frame (top right and bottom right when viewed frontally) and works in a mirrored pair with the left element MLD-2U-2.1L. Together they form a symmetrical ornamental program, without which a molding frame is merely a rectangle of profile.
Full STAVROS molding decor catalogcovers corner elements of various standard sizes and ornaments, tied to specific molding profiles. MLD-2U-2.1R is a standalone item priced from 1660 rubles per piece.
Corner decorative element MLD-2U-2.1R — what kind of product is this
There are details that silently perform the most important function in a decorative system—and MLD-2U-2.1R is among them. This is not a molding. Not a strip. Not just a 'wooden corner.' This is a right corner decorative element for a molding layout: a component that completes the right corner of a frame, covers the intersection point of two molding runs with a decorative carved ornament, and turns a structural joint into an artistic accent.
The main value of the product is functional, not decorative in an abstract sense. The corner element solves a specific task: on furniture facades, wall panels, door leaves—where molding profiles meet at a right angle, a part is needed that will cover this point neatly and expressively. Without such an element, the craftsman is forced to either cut the molding at a 45-degree angle (with the risk of error and an inevitable visible joint) or put up with an open intersection of ends.
MLD-2U-2.1R solves this problem systematically. On the reverse side of the product, a recess is provided that repeats the cross-section of the molding, plus side grooves for glazing beads for convenient installation as part of a frame composition. This fundamentally distinguishes molding corner decor from a simple carved overlay: here, the installation logic is designed together with the decorative one.

What problem does the right corner element solve: honest engineering of decor
Decorative finishing is always an engineering task. Even when it comes to a molding frame on a cabinet door.
A molding frame consists of four runs — two horizontal and two vertical. Ideally, they form a closed rectangle. In practice, each of the four corners is a stress point: this is precisely where the ends of two runs meet, and this is where installation flaws are most often visible — gaps, shifts, shrinkage after the first heating season.
The right corner element solves this problem once and for all for the right corners of the frame. The ends of the molding purlins meet the corner element with a straight cut, without a 45-degree miter. They abut against the side planes of the MLD-2U-2.1R, which replicate the molding profile thanks to a recess on the back side. After installation and painting, the joint disappears: a single decorative element is perceived, not a component connection point.
This is especially valuable in serial furniture production. A furniture maker working with molding fronts knows: corner joints are a source of complaints. The client accepts the front, signs the invoice — and six months later calls and says 'the corners have separated.' The system with MLD-2U-2.1R corner decorative elements eliminates this problem: the joint is covered, visually finished, ornamentally justified.
On wall layouts, the right corner element works not only as a 'covering' part but also as an accent decor — large, 200 × 135 × 20 mm, it is visible from a distance of three to four meters, maintains the rhythm of the entire molding composition, and adds ornamental density to it.
Design and form of MLD-2U-2.1R: when large scale is an argument
If the size of MLD-4U-2.1R (145 × 90 × 16 mm) is intended for medium-scale fronts, then MLD-2U-2.1R is for cases where larger and more substantial decor is needed.
200 × 135 × 20 mm — this is a substantial corner decorative element. It is clearly noticeable on a front 600–800 mm wide, dominates the corner point of a wall frame sized 500 × 700 mm or larger. The relief depth of 20 mm — the largest in the MLD-2U series — creates a sculptural volume that, with side lighting, produces a pronounced play of shadows. This is decor that 'works' under any lighting: both in bright daylight through a window and under directed artificial light in an evening interior.
The ornament is a rich classical floral motif. Compared to the more compact corner elements of the MLD-1U and MLD-4U series, the MLD-2U-2.1R has a more detailed pattern, with more complex relief transitions. Larger-scale smooth swirls, more pronounced petal forms — this is an ornament worthy of a large furniture front or a spacious wall panel.
Right-handed orientation is defined by the direction in which the ornamental motif unfolds: the main scroll is turned to the right, towards the right corner of the frame cell. Paired with MLD-2U-2.1L (left), this orientation creates mirror symmetry, which is immediately perceived as the 'correctness' and completeness of the frame.
The rectangular form of 200 × 135 mm with a diagonal ornamental axis is a classic geometry. The 200 mm runs along the horizontal molding purlin, the 135 mm along the vertical. The aspect ratio of 200:135 ≈ 1.48 is close to the golden ratio (1:1.618), which is subconsciously perceived as harmonious.
Material: oak or beech, Standard, For enamel — a choice that determines the result
The material in a corner decorative element for enamel is a choice of technological scenario, not an aesthetic concept. Under an opaque coating, the texture and color of the wood are not visible. However, the consequences of an incorrect choice are visible: surface porosity, uneven finish, difficulty in preparation.
Beech: fine pore — clean finish
Beech (Fagus orientalis, oriental beech) is a diffuse-porous species. The pores are distributed evenly throughout the cross-section, and their diameter is small. A sanded beech surface does not form a large-pored pore network. The applied primer lays evenly, the enamel — without porous artifacts.
In practice, this means: take a beech corner element MLD-2U-2.1R, apply a standard acrylic primer, let it dry — paint with enamel. The surface is smooth, uniform, without additional operations.
The density of beech at 12% moisture content is 620–680 kg/m³. This is a sufficiently hard species for carved decor: the relief turns out clear, the edges — sharp, the transitions — smooth.
Choose beech if: the project is entirely under opaque enamel, result reproducibility is important, production is serial, the budget is optimized.
Oak: a species with character — and with nuances for enamel
Oak (Quercus robur) is a ring-porous wood species. In the earlywood zone of the annual ring, large vessels form characteristic channels visible on the cross-section. Oak density is 650–750 kg/m³, providing excellent resistance to mechanical stress and a sharp, clear carving relief.
Under opaque enamel without pore filler, large oak pores can 'show through' the paint layer, especially with a matte finish. Remediation technique: a special oil- or nitro-based pore-filling primer before the main acrylic primer. This is one additional step—not critical, but important to consider.
Choose oak if: the project involves a mixed finish (part under varnish, part under enamel), species uniformity is more important than process simplification, or the interior is in a style like 'dark English classic' or 'study,' where oak sets the tone.
"Standard": What Machine Sanding Guarantees
In the STAVROS nomenclature, "Standard" means machine sanding. The surface is processed with industrial equipment—wide-belt sanding machines with specified grit parameters. The result is uniform: independent of the specific worker's hand, with no difference in the treatment of flat and relief areas of the ornament.
For carved decorative corner elements under enamel, this is the optimal approach. Hand sanding on complex relief inevitably creates unevenness—some areas are treated more intensively, others less. After painting, this can manifest as differences in gloss or surface texture. Machine sanding eliminates this variability.
"For Enamel": Honest Savings Without Quality Loss
"For Enamel" is a production standard for edge-glued panels without matching sections by color and grain direction. The logic is simple: under opaque paint, the wood's color, texture, and tone are physically not visible. Matching by grain makes sense only under a transparent or semi-transparent finish—when the customer will see and appreciate the pattern alignment.
The "For Enamel" edge-gluing reduces the consumption of select wood, lowers production labor costs, and—as a result—the product cost. At the same time, the strength of the glued joint, geometric stability, and quality of the sanded surface are identical to the "For Varnish" execution.
Where to Use the MLD-2U-2.1R Decorative Corner Element: Four Scenarios with Specifics
On furniture fronts: a scale that requires justification
Size 200 × 135 × 20 mm — not for a small cabinet. This corner element is designed for furniture where the front is large enough for the corner accent to be perceived proportionally.
Let's calculate specifically. A cabinet door 600 × 1000 mm, a frame with a 40 mm offset — frame size 520 × 920 mm. Horizontal runs between corner elements: 520 − 200 − 200 = 120 mm. Vertical: 920 − 135 − 135 = 650 mm. Proportions are acceptable: corner accents occupy a significant portion of the horizontal run, verticals remain full-fledged frame lines.
Front 700 × 1200 mm — frame 620 × 1120 mm. Horizontal runs: 620 − 400 = 220 mm. Vertical: 1120 − 270 = 850 mm. Excellent proportions. MLD-2U-2.1R is designed precisely for such large fronts.
Furniture objects where MLD-2U-2.1R is particularly appropriate:
-
Large cabinets and wardrobes — doors 600–800 mm wide with one molding frame or two horizontal cells
-
Buffets and sideboards — glazed upper sections with frame cells of medium and large scale
-
Library sections — doors with decorative frames, especially in oak with dark tinting or clear lacquer
-
Kitchen units with large lower sections — doors of lower modules 700–800 mm high
-
Fireplace portals with wooden overlay elements — molding frames on the side and frontal planes of the portal
On door panels and raised panels: the door as a decorative manifesto
The MLD-2U-2.1R interior door with molding frames and corner decorative elements is a door with a statement. Not merely 'decorated,' but decoratively argued: with a large ornamental corner measuring 200 × 135 mm, a relief depth of 20 mm, and clear classical ornamentation.
On a standard 2000 × 800 mm door with one large frame cell (frame approximately 1600 × 600 mm), the MLD-2U-2.1R corner elements will occupy positions at the four corners. Horizontal runs between corner elements: 600 − 400 = 200 mm. Vertical: 1600 − 270 = 1330 mm. The proportions are ideal for a large-format door.
A technically important point: the total height of the 'door leaf + molding + corner element protrusion' stack must fit within the door frame tolerances. With a standard frame rabbet of 12–15 mm and molding height of 15–20 mm, the total protrusion will be 30–40 mm from the plane of the leaf. This is normal for a hinged door; for a sliding door, verification is needed.
On wall panels and layouts: a large corner for a large wall
A wall molding layout made of wooden profiles is a way to give a room architectural scale without real architectural interventions. With just molding, adhesive, and corner decorative elements, a bare plastered wall transforms into a paneling system with character.
For spacious rooms — living rooms of 30+ sq. m, bedrooms with high ceilings, studies — it is logical to make wall frames large: 600–900 × 900–1200 mm. With such cell sizes, a 145 × 90 mm corner element (MLD-4U series) would be somewhat small and 'get lost' on the frame. The MLD-2U-2.1R with its 200 × 135 mm holds the corner point: it is noticeable, it is argued, it is proportionate to the large wall cell.
An additional technique: in the center of each molding run (especially horizontal ones), central decorative overlays from the MLD-2 series are installed — they continue the ornamental program, adding emphasis not only at the corners but also along the sides of the frame. Such a system already looks like real boiserie, not just a molding layout. The full range of central overlays is in the section decor for STAVROS moldings.
In the STAVROS article 'From Molding to Layout: All About Decorative Moldings' the principles of constructing wall molding systems are described in detail — we recommend reviewing it before planning a project.
In classical and neoclassical interiors: ornament as a cultural choice
A large carved corner decorative element made of solid wood is not a neutral detail. It is a stylistic statement: 'this interior appeals to the European classical tradition.' Or to neoclassicism—a restrained interpretation of the same tradition with an emphasis on purity of form and moderation of decorative density.
In classical interiors, the MLD-2U-2.1R works as part of a rich ornamental program: alongside a coffered ceiling, parquet flooring, patterned fabrics, and furniture with cabriole legs. In neoclassical interiors, it is one of the few decorative statements, which enhances its role: molding frames on walls with neat, large corner accents against a white background—this is 'new classicism' in its pure form.
In both casesright corner element for moldingthe MLD-2U-2.1R serves one function—to complete the corner of a frame with ornamental precision. It is precisely the large scale (200 × 135 mm) that allows this element to be heard in interiors with large planes and high ceilings.
Size 200 × 135 × 20 mm: proportional analysis of applicability
Before ordering the MLD-2U-2.1R, check the proportions of specific objects. A corner element of this scale requires sufficiently large facades and panels—otherwise, it will 'overwhelm' the frame.
Minimum recommended facade size for the MLD-2U-2.1R:
-
Width—from 560 mm
-
Height — from 750 mm
With a facade width of 560 mm (frame ~480 mm), horizontal runs: 480 − 400 = 80 mm. This is already at the limit — corner elements occupy 83% of the horizontal run. Recommended width — from 600 mm.
Ideal range:
-
Facade width 600–900 mm
-
Facade height 900–1500 mm
-
Wall frames from 600 × 800 mm
On wall layouts MLD-2U-2.1R, applicable without restrictions for any frames where the horizontal run from corner element to corner element is at least 100 mm.
A relief depth of 20 mm creates three distinct surface levels in the installed system: the facade surface — the level of the molding profile — the highest point of the corner element's relief. The height difference between the molding (assuming a profile height of 20 mm) and the corner element (20 mm): the element is practically flush with the top of the molding, without excessive protrusion. This creates a sense of a unified sculptural system, not an 'applied part'.
Important consequence for installation: with this 20 mm relief depth, the back plane of the corner elements during installation must lie flat on the facade surface, without a gap. Any unevenness of the facade surface under the corner element will manifest as wobbling or misalignment — impossible to correct after painting.
What to combine MLD-2U-2.1R with: complete system map
A corner decorative element does not work in isolation. Its value lies in the system. Let's examine all the components that create a complete molding frame layout.
Molding Profiles. Sectionof STAVROS millwork productsincludes over 30 wooden molding profiles made of beech and oak — from compact MLD-001 (10×6 mm) to large MLD-002 and MLD-003. The MLD-2U series of corner elements is designed for medium and large profiles. When selecting a molding, check compatibility: the geometry of the groove on the back of the corner element must match the molding profile.
Left paired element MLD-2U-2.1L — a mandatory mirrored pair. One frame: 2 right (MLD-2U-2.1R) + 2 left (MLD-2U-2.1L) = 4 corner elements. Calculation based on the number of frame cells: for one door with two cells — 8 pieces, 4 of each.
Central decorative elements of the MLD-2 series — optional, but visually powerful. Installed in the center of molding runs, they add an ornamental accent along the sides of the frame. With large cell scales (from 600 × 900 mm), central overlays are especially justified: otherwise, long runs look 'empty' compared to the rich corner accents. The entire range of central decorative elements is available in the sectiondecoration for moldings.
Mounting adhesive — specialized for wooden decor. Quick setting, high strength on MDF, chipboard, wood. Application — on the back surface of the element.
Acrylic sealant — for filling joint areas. White or paintable. Applied before priming.
Primer — universal acrylic, one coat over the entire system.
Enamel — acrylic (for kitchens and wet areas) or alkyd (for living spaces). For beech elements — standard two-layer application. For oak — preliminary pore filler.
Installation and finishing: a systemic technology without simplifications
Installing the MLD-2U-2.1R corner decorative element is a straightforward process when the correct sequence of operations is followed. Let's break down the steps, highlighting key decisions.
Surface preparation
The facade surface must be flat, clean, and degreased. On laminated MDF — sand the installation area with P150 grit to break the surface film and improve adhesive bonding. On untreated MDF or wood — degreasing without sanding is sufficient.
Check flatness in the installation area: apply a straight tool (straightedge, long level). Permissible flatness deviation under the corner element is no more than 0.5 mm over a 200 mm length. If greater — level with filler before installation.
Marking
Mark the frame outline with a pencil. Determine the corner points. Indicate orientation: MLD-2U-2.1R is for right corners (right upper and right lower when viewed frontally). Check orientation: place the element with the ornament facing you, the main scroll should be turned to the right.
Installing corner elements is always the first step.
Corner elements are installed before cutting the molding runs. This is an absolute rule: only after securing the corner elements is the molding measured and cut.
Apply mounting adhesive to the back surface of the MLD-2U-2.1R. Place it on the corner point of the marking. Press with moderate force. Secure with painter's tape (2–3 strips diagonally) or furniture clamps. Wait for the adhesive to set according to its instructions — typically 15–30 minutes.
Install all four corner elements of the frame (2 right MLD-2U-2.1R + 2 left MLD-2U-2.1L). Check the position of each with a level and against the corner marking before the adhesive sets.
Cutting and installing molding runs.
Measure the distance between the fixed corner elements: from the inner plane of one to the inner plane of the opposite one. This is the length of the molding run. Cut strictly straight, 90 degrees. Check the fit with a dry test.
Apply adhesive, lay the molding strip, press against the side planes of corner elements. The molding end must fit tightly into the recess on the back of the corner element — without any gap along the profile.
Sealing and final preparation
Fill all joint areas with acrylic sealant. Pay special attention to the lines where molding ends meet the side planes of corner elements. After the sealant dries — sand with P180 in joint areas until a smooth surface is achieved.
Apply primer over the entire system (facade + moldings + corner elements) in one technological pass. This ensures uniform absorption and a single surface level for the enamel.
Enamel — 2–3 coats with full drying. On textured surfaces — use a natural bristle brush, evenly working the paint into deep areas of the ornament. Control drips in the lower points of the relief.
Typical installation mistakes
-
Orientation confused: right element placed in left corner. The ornament does not form symmetry with its paired element. Correction after painting is impossible without disassembly. Always check orientation before applying adhesive.
-
Molding cut before installing corner elements: the strip does not fit into the space between fixed corners. Cut molding only after fixing corner elements.
-
Facade unevenness under corner element: element wobbles, adhesive sets with a gap. Level the surface before installation.
-
Painting without primer: first coat of enamel applies unevenly. Priming is a mandatory, not optional step.
Why exactly MLD-2U-2.1R: arguments without rhetoric
The selection of a specific item in the category of corner decorative elements is determined by four criteria: project scale, molding profile, orientation (right/left), material. For all four, MLD-2U-2.1R provides definitive answers.
Regarding scale — this is a large corner element for facades 600+ mm wide and wall frames from 600 × 800 mm. For a smaller object — see MLD-4U-2.1R (145 × 90 mm) or MLD-1U-2.1R. For a larger one — MLD-3U-2.1R.
Regarding profile — compatibility with the STAVROS MLD-2 series molding profiles ensures a seamless joint. See the full range of profiles in the section molding products.
Regarding orientation — "R" means right. For a complete symmetrical frame, you need right (MLD-2U-2.1R) and left (MLD-2U-2.1L) elements in equal quantities.
Regarding material — oak or beech to choose from. For opaque enamel — beech is recommended. For transparent or tinted coating — oak.
Five key advantages:
-
Large, expressive format 200 × 135 × 20 mm — for projects of corresponding scale
-
Profile cutout on the back + grooves for glazing beads — this is systemic compatibility, not just a generic decorative overlay
-
Material choice: beech or oak — two technological scenarios for different tasks
-
"Standard" finish — reproducible quality of machine sanding
-
Enamel Finish — honest savings without losing functional qualities in painting
FAQ: buyer questions — direct answers
Is this a standalone decor or a component element?
A component element for a molding frame system. Used independently only as a point corner accent without molding — a rare non-standard scenario. In most projects, it is used in combination with a molding profile.
How does the right corner element differ from the left MLD-2U-2.1L?
By the orientation of the ornamental motif. Right and left are a mirrored pair. For one rectangular frame: 2 right + 2 left = 4 corner elements. For multiple cells — multiply by the number of cells. Order both articles simultaneously, specifying the quantity of each.
Is MLD-2U-2.1R suitable for furniture fronts?
Yes, for fronts with a width from 560–600 mm. On narrower fronts, the 200 × 135 mm corner elements occupy too large a share of the horizontal run — the proportion is disrupted.
Can it be installed on wall panels and doors?
Yes. Interior doors with molding frames, wall molding layouts, and decorative panels are the main objects of application alongside furniture. On doors, it is recommended to check the total protrusion of the decor relative to the door frame tolerances.
What to choose under enamel: oak or beech?
For opaque enamel finishing, beech is preferable: its fine-pored structure without large open vessels provides a clean surface without additional operations. Oak under enamel requires a pore-filling primer before the main priming.
What does 'Standard' mean in execution?
Machine sanding with industrial equipment. A homogeneous, reproducible surface ready for priming without manual finishing.
When is a large corner element needed specifically, not a compact one?
When the facade is wider than 600 mm and taller than 800 mm, when wall frames are large (600 × 900 mm and larger), when the molding profile has a high cross-section (15–20 mm and larger). Compact corner elements (MLD-4U, MLD-1U series) get lost on large frames. MLD-2U-2.1R holds the corner point even in a spacious interior with high ceilings.
How to assemble a neat frame with right and left corner elements?
Strict sequence: (1) install all four corner elements first, before cutting the molding; (2) cut molding runs to measurement between fixed corner elements; (3) install runs; (4) seal joints; (5) sand joint areas; (6) prime the entire system; (7) paint with enamel. Violating this sequence is the main cause of poor results.
Where to buy the left paired corner element MLD-2U-2.1L?
In the same sectiondecor for STAVROS moldings— all corner elements are presented there, including the left paired MLD-2U-2.1L. The price starts from 1660 rubles, same as the right one.
Are there any articles on the use of molding layouts in interior design?
Yes. STAVROS publishes materials on decorative trims, wall molding systems, and shaped solutions for interiors. The article 'Moldings and Overlays: Details that Create Wall Depth' and the material "Shaped Solutions: Decorative Moldings, Layouts, and Contour Profiles" provide a comprehensive picture of the application of molding systems—from simple frames to multi-level panel compositions.
