Painting and Finishing Process for Decor
Opaque Finish for Wood, Paste, and Polyurethane Decor
- Prepare the decor for finishing: clean its surface from contaminants.
-
Apply primer (polyurethane) and let dry for at least 60 minutes (according to the can instructions if using a spray can). The second layer of primer is optional and applied at the discretion of the finisher depending on the material's coverage. Intermediate drying and matting are required between primer layers.
Primers equalize the surface's absorbency and ensure even paint distribution without blotching. Primer evenly fills all roughness and irregularities, creating an ideal surface for enamel application. Additionally, priming significantly reduces paint consumption, as a primer-coated surface has lower absorbency. - Mat again.
- Apply enamel based on polyurethane or acrylic and let dry for at least 240 minutes (according to the can instructions if using a spray can). In addition to changing the appearance of the item, enamel increases the decor's durability and water resistance.
-
If desired, apply patina based on alcohol, remove excess from raised areas, and let dry for at least 20 minutes.
Patina is an artificial aging process for interior items and materials to impart an elegant decorative appearance, antiquity, and enhanced protective properties. - Mat.
- Apply acrylic lacquer and let dry for 24 hours (according to the can instructions if using a spray can). If choosing a glossy enamel, lacquer application may be omitted.
In addition to changing the appearance of the item, lacquer increases the decor's durability and water resistance, and protects items from prolonged exposure to UV rays.
Transparent Finish (only for solid wood and paste decor)
- Prepare the decor for finishing: clean its surface from contaminants.
- Mat.
- Apply tinting based on alcohol. Wood tinting is performed to enhance color, eliminate color variations in details of the item, unify the overall color tone, provide the wood with a new color, and simulate the color of valuable species.
- Apply polyurethane primer and let dry for at least 60 minutes.
- Mat again.
- Apply acrylic lacquer and let dry for at least 24 hours.
