More than 20 years on the market
The company's success began in 2002, when two artists — Andrey Ragozin and Evgeny Tsapko — created a small creative workshop for producing wooden carved items. The masters' work was quickly noticed, and within a year they were invited to participate in the reconstruction of the Konstantinovskiy Palace in Strelna.
After the success of this project, the company focused on recreating palace interiors, furniture, church furnishings, and carved decorations in various artistic styles. They worked with cultural heritage sites: The Hermitage, the Alexandrovsky Palace, the Troitsko-Izmaylovsky Cathedral, the Sheremetyevsky Mansion, and many others.
The masters' task — and still is — to create wooden items with the highest level of detail and understanding of every element, based on impeccable knowledge of artistic laws and interior styles.

D40 Polystyrene HI WOOD Molding — a large-scale profile for expressive interiors
When creating a powerful decorative accent in interiors with high ceilings, professionals choose large-format profiles.Polystyrene moldingModels D40 from the South Korean manufacturer HI WOOD with impressive dimensions 40 × 18 × 2000 mm represent an expressive premium decorative solution. This profile belongs to the category of wide moldings, capable of visually transforming space and creating convincing architectural accents.
Dimensions 40 mm in height and 18 mm in thickness makeHI WOOD D40 Moldingone of the largest in the polystyrene profile range. The height of 40 mm provides powerful visual expressiveness, which is clearly visible even in rooms with ceilings 3.5–4 meters high. The increased thickness of 18 mm ensures a solid mounting base and gives the profile a substantial appearance. At the same time, due to the low weight of the material, the molding remains lightweight for installation and does not create load on load-bearing structures.
Thisdecorative moldingDesigned for large-scale interior projects where monumentality and respectability are important. Country houses with high ceilings, lobbies of luxury apartments, grand reception rooms, executive offices, banquet halls of restaurants and hotels — everywhere where it is necessary to create an impression of solidity and luxury, the D40 profile becomes the ideal choice. The white surface for painting allows implementing any color solutions, from classic white to bold contrasting combinations.
High-quality phytopolymer
The material used to manufacture the D40 molding is high-density polystyrene — a modern composite material also known as phytopolymer or duro-polymer. This thermoplastic polymer is produced using advanced South Korean extrusion technology followed by molding under controlled pressure. The technological process creates a dense, homogeneous structure with a density of 700 kg/m³, which significantly exceeds the indicators of ordinary expanded polystyrene and ensures the highest operational characteristics.
The mechanical strength of the phytopolymer reaches impressive values. The bending strength is 50–55 MPa, allowing the profile to withstand significant loads without deformation. The impact toughness of the material ensures resistance to mechanical damage — the molding does not break when dropped from a height, does not crumble during transportation and installation. The surface hardness according to Shore reaches 75–80 units, which eliminates the appearance of dents from accidental impacts during operation.
One linear meterof polystyrene D40 moldingweighs only about 180 grams, which is 5–6 times less than similar products made of MDF, wood, or gypsum. The low weight is critically important for installing a large profile on a ceiling — it does not create load on suspended structures and securely holds on adhesive without additional mechanical fixation. The lightness simplifies transportation and allows one craftsman to handle the installation without assistants.
The water resistance of polystyrene is 100% — the material does not absorb water even with prolonged contact. Water absorption within 24 hours does not exceed 0.2% by mass, which is practically zero. This makes the D40 molding a universal solution for any rooms, including bathrooms, toilets, pools, saunas, and kitchens. The material does not swell from moisture, does not deform under humidity changes, does not rot, and does not develop mold. Due to its water resistance, polystyrene is not a nutrient medium for bacteria, fungi, and microorganisms.
The material’s temperature stability covers a range from -50°C to +75°C without changes in physical properties. The molding does not soften when heated by radiators, warm floors, or built-in lighting. When cooled, the material does not become brittle and retains elasticity. The linear thermal expansion coefficient is only 0.06–0.08 mm per meter for a 10°C temperature change. This minimal value eliminates the appearance of gaps at joints during seasonal temperature fluctuations.
The ecological safety of HI WOOD products is confirmed by the prestigious Korean "Korea Eco-Label" certificate, awarded only to products of the highest ecological class. The material does not contain formaldehyde, phthalates, heavy metals, or other toxic components. It does not emit volatile organic compounds at normal operating temperatures. Polystyrene is chemically inert, odorless, hypoallergenic, and absolutely safe for human and pet health.
Architectural geometry of a large profile
The geometric parameters 40 × 18 mm represent the result of years of design development. The height of 40 mm creates a powerful visual effect, transforming the molding into a full-fledged architectural element. This height is optimal for rooms with ceilings from 3 meters, where a smaller profile would be lost and fail to create sufficient visual impact. The 40 mm relief creates an expressive play of light and shadow, which brings life to wall and ceiling planes, giving the interior depth and volume.
The thickness of 18 mm provides a solid mounting base for secure attachment of the massive profile. The increased contact area with the surface distributes the weight of the molding and improves the adhesion of the adhesive joint. This is especially important for ceiling installation, where the profile experiences gravitational loads. The thickness of 18 mm allows applying sufficient mounting adhesive to create a strong bond, while the adhesive does not squeeze out to the edges due to the optimal width of the mounting surface.
The profile cross-sectionof the D40 moldingis executed in the form of a classic quarter circle with additional relief elements. The smooth curved surface creates a soft play of light and shadow, changing depending on the position of light sources. The relief is formed by precision extrusion with an accuracy of 0.05 mm, ensuring identical profiles within each batch. The clarity of the relief is preserved along the entire length of the profile without distortions, depressions, or defects.
The standard length of the strip 2000 mm is chosen taking into account practical and transportation considerations. This length allows transporting the molding in a standard passenger car and carrying it by one person. During installation, two strips with one joint cover a 4-meter section, which corresponds to typical wall dimensions. If necessaryHI WOOD Polystyrene Moldingit can be easily cut with a hacksaw or construction knife to fit any dimensions.
Professional installation technology
Installation of large-format D40 molding requires careful surface preparation. Walls or ceilings must be leveled with precision to 1–2 mm per linear meter — a large profile emphasizes any irregularities in the base. All defects are eliminated with spackle, the surface is carefully sanded with 120–150 grit abrasive. Dust is removed with an industrial vacuum cleaner, the surface is degreased, and if necessary, primed with a deep-penetration primer to improve adhesive bonding.
Position marking of the molding is performed using a professional laser level, ensuring perfectly horizontal or vertical lines at any distance. For creating framed compositions, a marking string, a class I construction square, and a tape measure are used. All dimensions are checked twice before starting installation. Symmetry of compositions relative to the central axes of the room is especially carefully controlled — a large profile makes any asymmetry obvious.
The choice of adhesive composition is critically important for secure fixation. For polystyrenethe molding to the wallspecialized water-based mounting adhesives are used. Optimal are acrylic adhesives of the "liquid nails" type with high initial tack, MS-polymer adhesives or the HI WOOD HD1000 brand adhesive. It is strictly prohibited to use adhesives based on organic solvents — acetone, toluene, ethyl acetate, white spirit. These substances react chemically with polystyrene, causing softening, deformation, or complete dissolution of the profile.
Adhesive is applied to the back of the molding in a continuous wavy line without gaps. For a large profile, it is recommended to apply a thin, even layer over the entire mounting surface to maximize bonding area. After applying the adhesive, the molding is placed against the surface according to the marking and pressed firmly along its entire length. Due to the low weight of polystyrene, the adhesive sets quickly — usually, it is sufficient to press the profile for 15–20 seconds. Excess adhesive protruding at the edges is immediately wiped off with a damp sponge before it dries.
For ceiling installation, temporary fixation with painter’s tape or temporary supports is recommended. Tape is applied at intervals of 25–30 cm and removed 2–3 hours after installation. Supports from telescopic poles ensure even pressing along the entire length of the strip. Full polymerization of the adhesive occurs within 24 hours, after which the molding can be painted. Mechanical impacts on the molding are not recommended until the adhesive is fully dry.
Corner joint technology and fitting
An alternative for home use — a professional miter saw with a metal base and precision guides. The saw must have a wide base for secure fixation of 40 mm high molding. Cutting is performed with a sharp metal hacksaw with fine teeth or a construction knife with replaceable blades. During cutting, it is important to ensure the molding remains stationary and the tool moves smoothly. Rushing leads to a ragged edge that cannot be properly joined.
For large surfaces, two layers of quality paint are usually sufficient.
Fordecorative moldingFor profiles height 40 mm, it is especially important to ensure tight fitting along the entire height of the profile. Any misalignment or step will be noticeable after painting. Only after achieving an ideal joint are the strips installed with adhesive.
Corner joints are filled with acrylic sealant with improved adhesion and minimal shrinkage. For large profiles, professional-grade sealants with increased elasticity are recommended. The sealant is applied using a caulking gun with a nozzle cut at a 45-degree angle; excess is removed with a rubber spatula. The joint is smoothed with a special profile tool or a wet finger to form a seamless transition without visible edges. After complete drying, the joint may be sanded with fine-grit sandpaper and painted if necessary.
Preparation for painting and selection of materials
The surface of molding D40 has a fine-pored structure, optimized for painting. No preliminary priming is required — simply remove dust formed during installation. The surface is wiped with a dry cloth or blown dry with compressed air. If the molding has been stored for a long time or exposed to contamination, it is recommended to wipe it with slightly damp cloth and allow it to dry completely before painting.
Water-based paints are exclusively used for painting polystyrene molding. Interior acrylic water-dispersible paints are optimal — they are environmentally safe, odorless, dry quickly, and form a durable, flexible coating. Latex paints form a denser film with increased wear resistance and are easy to clean. Silicone paints provide excellent vapor permeability and maximum water resistance, which is relevant for bathrooms and kitchens.
Painting is performed with a microfiber roller for smooth areas and a synthetic-bristle brush for detailed relief work. The first layer is applied thinly and evenly, without drips, runs, or missed spots. The paint must cover the entire surface, including recesses in the relief. After the first layer dries (usually 2–4 hours depending on paint type), a second layer is applied to achieve a uniform, saturated color. For
large profiles, usually two layers of quality paint are sufficient.molding for paintingLarge surfaces usually require only two layers of quality paint.
Color solutions for large-scale interiors
Classic white painting creates the effect of expensive plaster molding. The white color highlights the profile's relief, creates light and shadow play, and visually expands the space. Forpolystyrene moldingheight 40 mm, premium-grade paints with high whiteness (at least 95%) and coverage are recommended. An ideally white surface creates an impression of monumentality and luxury, characteristic of palace interiors.
Contrasting painting emphasizes the profile's scale. Dark molding on light walls creates a dramatic effect and clear graphic structure. Especially impressive is molding painted in deep black, anthracite gray, dark blue, or chocolate on white or light beige walls. This solution is characteristic of modern interpretations of classical interiors and popular in luxury apartments and boutique hotels.
Colorful painting allows creating unique design solutions. Molding can be painted in any color from RAL, NCS, or Pantone palettes, selecting the ideal combination with furniture, textiles, and finishing materials. Deep, saturated tones — emerald, sapphire, burgundy, terracotta — give interiors respectability and depth. Elegant muted shades — gray-blue, olive, gray-beige, dusty rose — create a refined atmosphere. Bright accent colors make molding a standalone decorative element.
Advanced decorative techniques transform molding into a work of art. Multi-layer patination involves applying a base light layer, an intermediate translucent glaze, and a final dark patina finish. The patina is applied to recesses in the relief and partially worn away from raised areas, creating an effect of noble antiquity with depth and volume. Gilding is performed with gold leaf — an imitation of gold on glue-mordant, followed by polishing to a mirror finish. Silvering, bronzing, crackle technique — all these methods are available forpolystyrene molding.
Application in large-scale projects
Ceiling cornices made of D40 molding create a monumental transition between wall and ceiling. In rooms with ceiling heights of 3.5–5 meters, this profile does not disappear into the space but becomes a full architectural element. The cornice visually lifts the ceiling, structures the upper zone of the room, and gives the interior a finished look. Behind a 40 mm high molding, a powerful LED strip or even an LED durabright cable can be hidden, creating an eye-catching contour lighting effect.
Wall compositions made of large molding create a convincing imitation of classical boiserie.HI WOOD D40 MoldingIt forms expressive frames on walls that structure large planes and create architectural expressiveness. Especially effective are large vertical panels from floor to ceiling, visually increasing the room's height. The interior of the frames is painted in contrasting colors, covered with decorative wallpaper with embossing or textured plaster.
Horizontal molding zoning creates a classic three-part wall structure. Molding installed at 90–110 cm from the floor divides the wall into base and main sections. A second molding at 200–220 cm separates the frieze zone under the ceiling. Each zone receives its own finish — the lower section is practical and dark, the middle section is decorative with wallpaper or painting, the upper section is light to visually increase height. This solution is characteristic of palace interiors and emphasizes the high status of the room.
